I've been looking into how to make campaign forums private, if that is what a DM wants. There are two ways I think I can do this - private or passworded.
- A private forum would only be visible to those given permissions for that forum. The drawback is that only an admin can make a forum private, and the admin will need to grant/revoke each user's privileges. There is no setting to allow a non-admin to grant privileges on a per forum basis.
- A passworded forum would require a password to enter the forum, and to post in it. The benefit is that once an admin sets up the password, the DM of that campaign could give the password out to whomever he or she sees fit. The password should keep you in that forum for that entire session (no need to re-enter it). I'm not sure without trying it if you need to reenter it on subsequent visits or not.
So, those of you with campaign forums, what is your preference?
Input from those w/ campaign forums - private or passworded?

I'd have to go with the password because it sounds the easiest to administer.

Ya I agree, passworded would probably be the easiest

Passworded it is. If anyone wants his/her campaign forums passworded, shoot me a message with your desired password.

one question, does password mean that no one w/o the password can see the forum or just not post to it?
Re: Input from those w/ campaign forums - private or passworded?
They can see the name of the forum in the forum index (where all the forums are listed), but when they click on it, they will be taken to a screen and prompted for a password. Without it, they won't be able to view or post in the forum. For a sample, you'll see a Test forum in the Campaign forums list. Click on that to see what happens (the password is "test" - without the quotes).

I don't need a password; anyone is welcome to read our discussion. I guess it would only become an issue if someone wanted to be a pest.

I'm with LB. I'll abstain from this poll as I'd prefer to keep my forums public.
