Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Moderator:Lazybones
Got a character in mind, just need to sit down and work up an intro with SA as we're running a pair of siblings. Basically, though, mine is a devotee of Tymora. Planning to go cleric but depending on what others go for if we look like more of a sneaky trickster is needed then I can start ranger and work from there.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Well, I have three ideas for mine, VM:

- My original Dwarven Cleric/DD.
- A human Cleric/Champion of Torm.
- A human or Elven Ranger/Rogue.

OOC
How exotic are the Moonshae isles?
The humans are mostly Northmen (Vikings?) and Ffolks. Would a guy like Aarin Gend fit in there?
Same questions for weapons, are scimitars and rapiers easy to find? How about exotic weapons?

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
I have a number of PCs I'm considering and will pick one to fill in whatever hole is left when others have selected theirs.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
There is a lot of trade with the outside world and a certain degree of immigration so don't worry too much about racial archetypes. At one of the Ffolk towns you'll encounter a woman from Kara-Tur, for example.Mirgalen wrote:OOC

Exotic weapons will be more rare, but if you're set on one there are smiths you can talk to. You might encounter fewer such as magical weapon drops in the early stages of the campaign. The starting island has a fairly limited inventory of gear but that will steadily expand as your adventures continue.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
I've tweaked the campaign origin a bit, to allow for more discovery and exploration in the initial stages. The first session (after character creation) will begin with the player characters arriving at the island where the Temple of All Faiths is located. They are all basically acolytes of their various faiths and have just met recently on the boat (unless you have origin stories that assume a previous association). The characters know what's in the first post but otherwise the temple and its mysterious leader are a puzzle.
Player characters may have their own agendas, but basically their assignment is to meet this Prelate and gain membership in the Temple. From there they should use their own judgment to advance the cause of their respective faiths.

The Devotion campaign will begin on June 27. I'm going to submit the mod to Vanya Mia's Box account by the end of next weekend so if you want your character concepts to be reflected in the mod please finalize them this week. Early posting of character backgrounds is not required, of course, but I'd like to include as many plot links and Easter eggs for you guys as possible in the story.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Ohh Campaign starts on my birthday!
I think I'd like to revisit (and flesh out) one of my first ever characters.
Amathain Calindor Is a paladin of Torm. He is one of the Martyrs progeny ( http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/M ... 7s_Progeny ) his parents having given up their lives when he was 14. He was a week away from his 15th birthday, the age at which he would have been able to join them in helping Torm destroy Bane. He came to terms with his loss, and decided the best way to honour their memory was to live his life in the generous way they had lived theirs, and to serve Torm and his fellow man in the spirit of their sacrifice.
The most important parts of Amathain's calling as a paladin, are not the obsessive preoccupation with law (which can be unjust) or authority (which might be tyrannical) which seem to be the focus of many paladins. But instead is a devotion to Duty, compassion, and the need to do what is right.
He's extremely unlikely to employ underhanded methods, he wont want to lie, cheat or steal, but if it were the only way to achieve a more important goal, he's capable of putting his misgivings aside and using the tactics necessary to defeat the enemy. "Honour" is often a conceit, closer to pride than true nobility. Humility often serves others better than such self-importance.
He's a full paladin at this point, having been knighted a few years previously. He has performed his duties in and around Tantras, but this would be his first major mission for the church, and potentially the furthest he's travelled from his home city.
------------------------
Let me know if anything needs tweaking in that. I Know Mirgalen is planning a paladin, but I figure 2 isn't too many when we're playing a small number of classes like this.

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Heck, you can all be paladins if you like (now that would be an interesting campaign). Sounds like a cool concept.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
(Sent you a PM, LB. Thinking on something more condensed for the forum. I assume we're all supposed to have been around the Temple for a while, and are therefore vaguely aware of each other?)
