I'm leaning towards a wuxia-esque Fighter, I think. Yes.

I'll go with the sorcerer so we have some magical damage then. Speaking of which, will we be allowed to have animal companions/familiars? I generally use the raven with the sorc.

Good question. I should have asked that too.

Here's a list of what folks are leaning towards so far, narrowed down a little from initial postings.

VM - Druid
Kar - Fighter, Barbarian or Monk combo'ed with Rogue.
Shad - Druid, Ranger/Rogue, Monk or Cleric
GW - Sorcerer
Top - Monk/Cleric
Mirg - ???
SA - Fighter

Animal companions and familiars are fine. In fact, when I ran this for my Sunday group I created a widget that allowed Mulu to turn his default bear companion into a panda.

Hi all,

I missed this as I always go straight to the Devotion posts.

In an Oriental setting I ideally like to play samurai or ninja. However, w/o a proper PRC class or system the samurai is unplayable.

I found two of my old Zen ninjas (Sho Kosugi and Tsunami) both are a mix of Monk/Rogue/SD. I can play as human or part fox Hengoykai (1/2 elf).

I may have to replace ninja-to with kamas unless the CEP have kama based ninja-to or simply used Kung Fu.
My char is male and is probably a foreigner. His ninja identity should be concealed so for others he is just a travelling monk or beggar (see below).

I don't care much about the level split since this is not solo play however the campaign should allow my char to gain enough ninja levels (rogue and/or SD). If this is not ok, I may just start as a beggar (rogue/SD) and take monk levels later on after joining a monastery.

I like the Tsunami nickname but I can find another cool name most likely Japanese.

If I remember correctly from last time this didn't go far up the levels, in the first post LB says probably no more than L12. If you're going to multiclass you could try Monk/Shadowdancer? Though in campaign play it doesn't much matter that gives faster access to the unarmed feats. As martial weapons of any kind are going to be scarce that might be handy. Given the ninja of popular culture seems to bear little resemblance to that of fact, and he's hiding it anyway, having a kama or some other farm implement based weapon would probably make sense. But! This is fun fantasy so we all leave reality at the door for that one.

For myself I've been thinking abound the druid option and looking at the sort-of-in-line-with-the-setting idea of a shaman in training attached to a Shinto group in the edges of the forest near the local water source perhaps. A place the villagers would go to should they choose to use devotional means to help with crops or animal husbandry. Not deep in and certainly no where near the wizard.

Sort of a local girl, having been found one morning playing in the waters of the shrine as a very small child and reared as a miko by other tenders of the Shinto. I would like to take half-elf as a race to represent partial spirit-folk blood and explain her origin, the druidic abilities, and a tendency to be "away with the fairies". It would be nice to leto her appearance to elf too just to be smaller but can live without if it's a no. As an animal companion is allowed I'd take a bear if permitted, but a badger (as a tanuki) or bird if not.

Responding to various posts:

Topato: I've added kamas to the starting store in the first module.

Karvon: There is a tribe of wemics in the starting module that can be used in character backgrounds, but I wouldn't recommend a wemic character, in part because of the human-focused culture of the game world but also because of the size issue (fitting through doors and in small rooms, that kind of thing). If you want to play a barbarian-type character you can have him/her be a human raised by the wemics as noted in the character background notes.

Mirgalen: Samurais or ninjas are fine, just remember that this is a low-powered setting. The ninja-to is a shortsword, so if you wanted to use one you'd need to take a rogue level early on. It's not a weapon you'll be able to start with but there are places where you could find one in the first module in the campaign. There is a group of ninja-type assassins in this campaign world so if you decide to go that way I can work it into the plot; perhaps you could be on the run from them.

Vanya Mia: Based on your character concept I'll allow you to use the elf racial selection, and a bear is fine. There is already a widget in the module that turns a regular black bear into a panda.

During our summer hiatus I've been working on the fifth module in the campaign. As noted above we'll probably make it to at least 12th level.

If I do play a wemic, it would actually be a half-wemic using the half-orc, as that's where one can access the wemic heads, so it'd be a biped. I think you can play with a quadraped wemic via cep if certain haks are used.

Okay, that could work, though I wonder at the nature of the relationship that would lead to such an offspring. :?
