Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread

"Please one god, and you anger another," Eleni mused. "If our magnificent and radiant selves really have caught some deity's eyes, I do not think there is much we can do but continue on as we would otherwise. Not until such a patron chooses to reveal themselves, anyway.
"Besides," she continued, smiling skywards as if at some unseen benefactor. "We wouldn't want to spoil anyone's fun by gaming their little tests, now would we? Might as well put on a show."
"As for this Danae woman... Well, Damian knows more about this sort of magic than I do, so I am inclined to trust his judgement. Her power may simply not come from the source she believes it does - might not have a god, or at least not a familiar god, behind it at all. There are many kinds of power, but it hard to judge without more knowledge."

"This seems odd to me" said Telemachus. "I've only ever heard of Demeter as a patron of farming and law and suchlike. Could this Danae woman lying about her patron? Surely that would be a dangerous thing to do. A good way to gain the ire of a deity."
"No matter. We'll have this mess sorted out and be on our way to Argos again in no time."

Polytropos pauses. "Did... did anyone actually hear anyone say that this village's 'crime' was to do with animals? Or did we just make that up? Maybe... maybe this has nothing to do with animals, and... she's just using them as soldiers...? Either way, she's either doing a goddess's work or she's mad, and I don't like the smell of that either way."

Leonaidas examined the red olive wood bow and nodded. It a fine weapon, with better range and and more dangerous arrows than his sling. Yet, he didn't have many arrows, and he still had a lot of stones, so he figured he'd keep using the sling for smaller creatures and save the bow for bigger more dangerous stuff.
Life out on the road was exciting, he would have to get some writing materials and keep a simple journal to serve as source material for stories and songs he composed later to celebrate.

((Ugh, meant to ask about Xmas breaks. No big day hits Saturday this year, but I might be busy-ish the one before Xmas. Not as yet sure.))

I should be available throughout the holidays this year, but we'll follow the usual precedent and skip a week if fewer than 5 players can make it.Vanya Mia wrote:((Ugh, meant to ask about Xmas breaks. I think I'll also put together a cheat sheet for next time, after confusing the Roman-era denarius with the Greek drachma. Our campaign mushes together some 600+ years of history, but as I used to teach the world civilizations course I have tried to at least be reasonably accurate.

OOC:
Sorry about bugging out early last time, but my father-in-law's nurses' aid showed up earlier than what I was expecting her. They don't usually come out on the weekends, so I should be fine this week.
[edit]: I should be fine regarding the holidays unless something comes up.
IC:
Damien crouched by the saffron plants, examining them for seeds. He frowned as he saw none, one of the others must have picked them before he got to them. He sighed and stood up, looking for the others. Not seeing them, he turned to Aias. "Looks like they went on without us, Aias. We'd best hurry up before something happens to them. I can heal wounds, but I can't call the spirit back to the body." He gripped his spear and ran back to the path as the sounds of battle reached them. "Great. I hope we're not too late."

The heroes had ventured up to help a group of soldiers stop or delay some "demons". The group arrived just in time to help hold a bridge. A winged creature managed to fly over the barricade and attack but it was killed. Soon after some of them were already negotiating with a nearby merchant. Andreas had little if any coin (less than five drachma in total) and had little if any interest in merchandises.
"Well, what shall we do now?"

"How was it for you?" Kataramene asked Polytropos quietly.
Eleni's decision to sell the magical dagger she had been given and buy things to protect the warriors had been a sound decision. Sacrificing the warm bear hide tunic to Telemachus in favour of the lighter leather breastplate was no loss considering the shield she now had for protection, and the cloak Polytropos had given her still kept out the worst of the wind as she stood looking out across the chasm in the dark. When the fuss of the trading and organising of new equipment was over, and she'd found somewhere to change, she'd sought out the young fighter.
"The ... whatever it was that happened at the shrine to Ares," she added with a quick smirk before the young man could respond and then became more thoughtful. "I felt as if the world would lay at my feet, as if no man could stand before my sword." Kataramene's eyes flashed a little with the memory. "A thousand foe had fallen at my hands, and a thousand more were to come. Faceless and nameless, but it felt so good." She paused and looked at Polytropos. "Did you feel the same?"
