The next day the group decided to look for the evil doer responsible for the (shadow) animals mischiefs. First, they pulled together all gold, fancy stones and other jewels they had recovered and hopefully not stolen and visited the merchant who had a nice selection of weapons. Pius came out with a shiny new chain mail and a bastard sword, preferred weapon of his patron Deity.

Later on that day they ventured again into the wilderness. Since they arrived, they have passed through the gates so many times that they could almost call every guard on duty by name. After fighting more shadow animals they arrived near a three stones circle standing on a small hill. The man or humanoid they were looking for was there. Pius offered to spare the life of the culprit if he would stop his evil acts and surrender. He failed to convince the culprit who summoned more animals and vanished before their eyes...

//Change of plans again. It looks like we'll be here until at least Monday of next week, if not later. I'll try to be around Saturday, but it's going to depend on if we have to pack Saturday morning or not.

Toric looked over the others as he drank from his mug of ale. "So we be going ta Farie, eh? I dun like it, but that bastard who's been makin' them beasts won't stop 'till we do. Any of ye got any ideas as to what we'll be findin' there? Or how ta fight 'em?" He stared at Suula, "An' no more talk 'bout raiding tombs, lass. If'n ye want ta go, go, but dun expect me ta follow ye. An' 'fore ye mention me shield, it was a gift - same as yer necklace an' those scrolls we found ta help with that ball of light 'neath the Temple. We've already shown we can deal with them animals without enchanted weapons, so we'll take the fight ta that twisted nature lover with the power o' our Gods by our side and not with weapons that weren't given ta us." He looked around the table, staring at each in turn before nodding and returning to his ale.

"Fair enough," Nihmri said, with a sigh. "I was not particularly enamored with the notion, either but, as I said - that was before anyone mentioned extraplanar activities. You'll have to forgive me for very nearly being seduced by Suula's dark, gentle whispers. I'm sure it won't happen again."

The Tashalaran girl smiled and gave the twins an apologetic shrug, then cleared her throat."

"We shall have to overcome the opposition through the blessings of our gods, then. I should probably pray for glimpses of what awaits, but I'm not sure if even Savras' eyes extend far into faerie, blasphemous though that sounds. I suppose we shall find out."

"If we have to then I am more than prepared to depend on luck," Shanni responded, bearing a frown that had deepened increasingly at various comments from the others, "but let's get one thing straight. The Lady says only those who risk all can gain much, but she also makes it quiet clear that being bloody stupid isn't trusting to luck. It's being bloody stupid."

She looked at Toric. "You make some damn odd justifications for taking stuff from the tombs in All Faiths and then not taking them from the potentially evil-mongering hands of the spirits on the island of these northern folk. We don't know they are evil but if they aren't then don't you think they'd be just as bloody happy to have their weapons used to defeat it as the ones who gifted that shield to you?"

The gimlet look turned to Nihmri. "And if you think being sensible about us needing to be as prepared as possible before wandering into the land of the fey is 'dark whisperings' then you're just as bloody stupid."

"Your patrons might be happy for you to bugger about, but while the Lady is behind trusting to your luck that's not the same as hoping for the best. If you help make your own luck and she'll smile on your attempts, and getting the best weapons we can drops damn hard into that category." She folded her arms and sniffed irritably.

"So you leave my sister alone, because if she's saying that going less prepared than we could be is inviting doom, she'd know better than you."

Suula had been bitterly resigned as the others spoke; until, that is, her sister had spoken up, and started haranguing the others. Her face contorted into something like a sinister smile, and she smirked at the others for a moment, taking pleasure in the quiet revenge, hiding behind Shanni and peering out as if from behind a shield. But finally, she composed herself, and drew herself up to her full height, putting on her best frosty look.

"Peace, sister," she bade, raising a palm in supplication. "We've made our case... the decision is theirs." She stands for a moment, gathering herself... and pronounces her next words with the heavy tones of an oracle. Somewhere far out across the bay, a storm breaks, the sound of thunder rolling into the town.

"Know this. Whenever you go into Faerie, then my sister and I will be with you. And if we get into trouble, I won't even say I told you so. For this is how Doom comes; all your choices add up to your Destiny, and if you make enough poor ones, then that destiny is a dark one. I won't enjoy sharing it, if it comes..." she raises her eyebrows archly, and wraps her cloak around her like a shroud, like the wings of a raven. "But someone ought to be a witness."

"See, here's the thing, girl: I couldna gotten me shield were it not fer the token the cook gave me. An' we couldna gotten them scrolls were it not fer Nihmri figuring out the lock THAT the occupant gave us a clue on how ta do. So ye both can take yer luck and yer Doom somewhere else 'cause we don' need ta steal ta defeat that nature boy. Those who look fer the easy path soon find themselves in quicksand with nary a rope ta be seen."

// does posting late last week carry over into this week? :(

The only way I'll concede to taking these weapons is if you can somehow contact the dead or their relatives for permission, or prove that they're in the hands of evil, rather than the resting dead.
