INTO THE SNAKE PIT.

Trying to sort out the situation between two tribes of Hengeyokai. The whole thing was caused by a snake woman, another hengeyokai perhaps who had invaded the lair of the first group and somehow controlled (charmed?) some of the original dwellers. The Dragons bold and mighty as usual moved in and removed whatever came in their way. Tenko spotted the snake woman but the group moved to another area. At the end, the group approach a hut where the creature might have taken refuge.

This time however there was no scouting, a few of the Dragons simply rushed in. The hut was a snake pit and the snake woman used magic. Tenko followed the group inside. His friends were already in close combat. Tenko would have preferred to get out, make a plan and attack but this was not to be. He tried to use his sling but in close quarter that was not possible. He tried to help his injured friends bleeding on the ground which did not really work and worse, he was spotted and chased around. Trying to go out did not work as a big snake was blocking the exit. Back inside he grabbed his only kama and tried to fight the snakes. Instead he got attacked by a flying dagger that he could not "defeat". Desperate, he reached for a nearby table hoping to find something to help turn the tide. There was an explosion but nothing he could use. He was already injured and poisoned. Most of his friends were down. His last hope was a nearby chest that could contain a weapon or something. After another explosion he fell and all went dark.

1. Always scout you should
2. If odds no good should a timely retreat be considered (burn down the hut or something)?
3. Range weapon not good in close combat obviously
4. Using bandages remove concealment (but not invisibility, right?)
5. Bandages only effective if you invest in heal skill
6. Shelgarn's persistent blade has DR (never used that spell)
7. When you don't know what to do you may do things that may worsen the situation instead of saving the day (opening trapped container hoping to find a magic wand?)
8. When you are the last one standing with 1 HP or so do what? Charge? Isn't that what paladins are for?

//You can use ranged weapons reasonably well in hth is you have the point-blank-shooting feat, though you may be subject to attacks-of-opportunity, forget what our difficulty setting is for the campaign...

//bandaging doesn't bring you out of stealth mode; I've often snuck around bandaging fallen folks.

//scouting's always good IMHO, but the group doesn't seem to have a lot of patience for extended recon most of the time in my experience. Half the time, people rush by me before I've had time to type out full scouting reports.

Wen flinched a bit at the bow twang, still limping on a sore leg. "We... we learn lessons from defeat, don't we. Things happened back there I didn't know how to face... snakes striking from the ground, magical auras of pain, weapons wielded by invisible hands." He hangs his head. "How can a swordsman overcome such things?"

She died again. Drowned, in the deep, alone but for the voices in her head. They pulled her further down still, toward places not yet charted.

She wasn't afraid, exactly. That was not at all the right word. Not that words really made sense to spirits, anyhow - usually, they just got in the way. A human invention, trying and failing to make sense of something that did not exist to be made sense of. There was a kind of dread, yes, but with it came a grim acceptance of the inevitable. Of course this was where she was bound. How could it possibly be otherwise?

Only she didn't really die, of course. Not quite.

Hours later, while the others spoke of lessons learned and treasures gained, Ning did not speak. Instead, she sat, and meditated on half-remembered words.

As he struggled back to conciousness again and again, he became more and more determined. This was not how he would end. He could not permit something so ignoble.

((Hi folk. We just changed our broadband hub and I am having trouble setting up port forwarding in that the ports simply won't open for traffic. There's an old issue with the Virgin Hub 3.0 that blames some issue with the software for modem/router but this one has software later than the supposed problem. I've got a support ticket in for a firmware update to be pushed through but that might not be in effect for tomorrow, as for some reason it takes 4 to 24 hours for someone to get around to clicking a box I suppose.

I'll keep on trying and hope the update gets done and actually resolves the problem. :( ))

I can try hosting again but my recollection is that one or two players just couldn't join my server the last time I tried? I'll try to get up a little bit early tomorrow to troubleshoot.

Session 6

+200xp for Gojiro, Tenko Kitsune, Ning, Meng Wen, Tianlong, and Moriko for IC posting.

((If I remember there was something odd meaning no more than 3 could get in at one time, but it's been a few years now so worth a try. I'll send over the servervault just in case.))

((No joy. Either the update hasn't happened yet or it has made no difference. They did say up to 24 hours which would put it too damn late to call them this evening.))
