Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
+3150xp for full-party IC posting this week.
I didn't want to clutter up the Dragon's Village thread or start a new one yet, but I have another campaign idea I'd like to run past the group.
A number of you have played through my "Siege of Aldera" campaign. Vanya Mia and Smart Alec were part of my 2009 run, and I believe VM ran it later for some of her own players.
The campaign would be a prequel to Siege of Aldera.
The twist: you are the bad guys.
The game would start almost exactly as SoA did: with a call for help. Except this time the call comes in the Underdark, from the derro druid Alzari. She needs clever agents who can help her gain revenge on the surface people of Aldera.
The campaign would allow "evil" subraces such as duergar and drow for player characters, as well as some humanoid races such as goblins and kobolds. You know I'm not into hardcore evil campaigns, but it would be more along the lines of our X-COM Aliens game. Maybe a bit more double-crossing and backbiting allowed than usual.
My intent would be that the campaign would lead up to the events that took place in my own original Aldera game. It's even possible that Sarinna Tannabur and Will Toyne could make an appearance (as antagonists, of course).
If you are interested, this could be our next campaign after The Dragon's Village.

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
I'd be interested. I also played in and ran this campaign back in the day. I have a good Blackguard build I can try out.

The visit to the elves had been lucrative; the party was able to unload a lot of collected treasures for gold, thought the elves refused to purchase any of the silver bullion they'd looted - not that that stopped them for accepting it as a donation. Nevertheless, Slade was able to pick up some defensive magic items: a better shield, for those rare times when he fought hand-to-hand, a belt to protect him from fear and death, and an amulet to protect him from common physical dangers. The elves surprisingly didn't have much in the way of arrows. Nor did he find any elven cloaks or boots for sale, much to his chagrin.
While he was haggling with merchants, the party agreed to a task for the elves to recover a lost dwarven weapon which apparently several other parties were interested in. The elves loaned pegususes to the group so that they could reach the distant mountain stronghold in a fraction of the time it otherwise would've taken to reach it on foot. After dispatching some bugbears guarding the approach, and noting some dead cultist outside the entrance, the party ventured down into the abandoned stronghold, coming across more recently dispatched humans. Slade found a letter describing the efforts of one human group with warnings of other competing bands. Apparently, Wizards of Thay were also in the game. He spotted a badly wounded survivor of the cultist group propped up against the wall of a cavern and reported that to the others to deal with. In subsequent negotiations, the party agreed to not slay him in exchange for his help in opening a sealed gate to access the inner parts of the hold. One member healed up the badly wounded man, a major mistake in Slade's view, as that only gave him more courage to run off later when the opportunity presented itself.
Deeper inside, the party came across the Thay team battling a pair of golem guardians. After a bit of a tense standoff, the Thayians agreed to withdraw peacefully and yield the looting of the place to the group. These and other assorted constructs encountered later were dispatched after somewhat long, and at times tedious, fights.

The elven city of Evereska up in the trees was pleasant. The group did not have time to see much of it. After visiting a few merchants who had no superior bow on display the group flew to a mountain range on the back of pegasus. They entered a dwarven outpost carved inside the mountain. Some tough golems tried to stop them and where crushed by the team. Althor used a large number of arrows as several of his projectiles would simply bounced back or break instead of damaging the constructs.
The team found some nice trinkets and Althor got some valuable equipment making him an even better marksman.

Toric looked at the mace in his hands and harrumphs. "Not much better than me ax, if'n ye ask me. Damned thing barely dents 'em." He turns to Shanni. "Ye want it back, lass? With yer enchantments, me ax seems as good or better than this mace."
He looked around at the walls. "I've rarely seen architecture like this. Place is old indeed. Was hoping the guardians would recognize one o' their own, but I'm guessin' their creators didna want anybody ta come 'ere, even a fellow dwarf." He shakes his head. "Shame we can't salvage some o' that metal 'cause it still be good." He shrugs. "Ah well. E'en if'n we could, be a pain ta haul it all outta 'ere anyway. So, we goin'? Time's awastin' and I like ta see this ax we be after 'fore the Thayans decide ta take a chance on us."

"It's not mine Toric," Shanni replied, shaking her head and indicating Tymora's holy mace with small shake of the weapon. "Nim had it I think? Though it's a shame it wasn't more useful." She grinned ruefully. "It's also nice to know the Lady helped tip the balance somehow as those constructs were having none of it."
"You're right about the not hanging around bit though." She looked back the way they had come. "Whoever they pray to but those red sods have a reputation and brought similar constructions along with them. Dealing with those while their masters throw magic around would not be much fun."
