Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #2

"We're not going to reveal anything Damian" Tel said as he trudged along keeping an eye on the sky. "That would ruin all the work we've done. Heracles would still be beholden to Eurystheus for ten tasks, and he'd have even less time to complete them."

"This is the sixth and it's already annoying," Polytropos reminded. He looked at the rattle, thoughtfully. "We're not doing so badly, considering that to do this we'd have to be flying, usually. I think we might be getting some help, likely that Heracles has a few gods in his corner and they might be paying attention."
He exhales, still scanning the sky. "The trouble is that the Gods who want him to fail have probably spotted that by now. So we're in a... contest of escalation, I feel. Heracles's enemies aren't just thinking of ways for us to fail, they're thinking of tasks that'll be impossible for us to complete without so much help that those who're helping will have to tip their hand for all Olympus to see. And then there'll probably be trouble, a Gods' quarrel like in the poems. Zeus'll have to get involved, it'll be bad all round."
"And we'll be dead, too, so..." he adds, grimly.

"Hmm." Kataramene nodded her head, in as sage a manner as she'd be likely to achieve, murmuring in agreement. "We began this to help, yes, as rescuing the wrongly threatened - particularly those unable to help themselves - is what heroes do, but also for the reputation." She sighed. "It seemed sensible at the time to help Heracles for what his favour could do for us, but it looks like that's going to end is.." The young woman paused and looked at Polytropus. "... well, I agree with Pol."
"Not only that, but if he is being held by one of the gods, to stop him doing this, then at least one of them already knows we aren't him." She bit her lip a little. "It only takes one of them to start paying attention and all Hades is going to break loose, which is the only thing worse that us having to actually go there."
Kataramene blinked. "Oh blast, I just did it again, tempting fate, didn't I?"

+1650xp for full-party posting.
I fixed the rattle script; I didn't give it any special effects and it still has a limited range (I guess the Stymphalian birds are a little deaf), but it should allow you to bring birds that are a level above you down to closer quarters.
IP is 108.204.120.190:5121, PWs are as usual. I'll load up the server in about 20 minutes.

Metallic birds, nests and eggs were all gone. The heroes would not need to worry about them and the the villagers should now be able to go back farming and raising cattle without any concerns other than the weather.
The next stop was Crete. It would take too long to go there to capture yet another mythical creature and bring it back as proof of the deed. A device that could open portals would certainly be a great help but for now the sea was the only option.
"You magic wielders, could you not find a way to travel great distance in an instant like these portals we took in the past? Would our little friend from the Fey Realm be able to help somehow? If we cannot save time, forget about the labors..."
Andreas paused waiting for and answer but looking at the faces of his friend he doubted that anything convinving would be offered as a possible solution.

"Is that land?" Kataramene asked, wincing a little as she pulled herself up on the railing. She smoothed her hair, and straightened her tunic, and massaged each of her wrists a little in turn.
"Those look like the lights of houses." She peered off into the half light and pointed. "It looks like land to me. Have we been at sea long enough yet?"

Damian shrugged. "I hope it's land because we've been out to sea long enough. Then again, five minutes is too long in my book." He turned to the captain. "Is that land, captain?"

Polytropos appears on deck in Kataramene's wake, adjusting his tunic-belt and hair. His goofy grin quickly switches to a diffidence bordering on affectation when he sees others there. "Yes, uh, Captain! Yes, good idea there, Damien. Let''s... let's call the Captain! He'll know things."

Leonaidas was happy to be out at sea again; it was a great way to travel, as long as the weather was fine. He spent some time picking up some of the seamens' songs and provided after dinner entertainment for the crew with songs of his own interspersed with stories of the heroic adventures of the group. He spent a lot of the days just sleeping in the sun.

Eleni sighed. "If it's land, it's probably not Crete. There's plenty of isles in the Aegean. Most of them rather dull, I'm afraid."
"And you know, Andreas, I've been trying to study those portals, but there's only so much progress I can make from the things I copied from the Immortal King's tome. And it's not as if I've had much time for research and experimentation, with us being on the road most of the time! It would be /so/ helpful if I could recreate the scrying pool somehow, but I'm not sure I'll ever manage it, to be honest..."
