The strangers, and indeed the term couldn't be more apt, for these people were truly strange, told many odd tales, and talked of many outlandish things. Junter could not be certian of how much he should believe, although they seemed earnest enough. Idealistic, even. Perhaps the innocent never suffer on their world. Juntar sighed to himself. If that was the case, it's a world he'd truely like to see.

Simmons tried on yet another outfit.
"Nah.....this won't do either. Have you anything else? " he said to the assistant in the textile shop.
The shop assistant was clearly fed up with this most difficult-to-please customer and silently wished he would go somewhere else....anywhere else! "Perhaps Sir should try some of the other premises in town to find what he obviously knows he wants."
What Simmons actually wanted was some denim jeans, a tee shirt and a nice leather jacket but that wasn't going to turn up anywhere in this world.
"Give me another look at that brown outfit there, it might have to do, " he said with a sigh.

A drink seemed like a damn good idea right about now. Even if it meant making do with the swill that passed for such around here.

Truth be told, the bard and his silent companion were one of the few people native to this world whose presence Greggs could endure for any length of time. This likely had something to do with them not being, unlike most of his recent new acquaintances, nobles or priests. He'd quickly discovered that extended exposure to aristocracy made him long for the company of more honest idiots.

Though some of those were starting to worry him as well. Sometimes, it felt like he was the only one not resigned to the possibility of being stranded here for years yet. Some of his squadmates even seemed to be going native.

Now there was a horrifying notion.

OOC

I'm back in Hong Kong and ready for the "midnight" game.

IC

Majid spent the time left with the guys in anticipation of their departure. He took another long bath and soon after went to see Junior.
Before leaving he said: "Hey, I think I will go see Magda later. In the meantime I'm gonna write a letter to my parents, in case I end up KIA, MIA or something. "

Back in his room he started to draft a letter to his parents. Finding the right words turned out to be harder than expected. Also, a soldier's letter written with a quill with an odd looking ink on some kind of vellum would probably be hard to explain.

He paused for a moment before writing another paragraph: "... if you are reading this letter, it will be the proof that I have left this world for a better one. I know you will miss me as much as I miss you. I wish that you could see what I have seen here and how much I have grown..."

Just a reminder that I will be out of town on May 19 and there will be no session then.

I am also taking a weekend trip in the middle of July, but we should be finished with GGS by then.

Having checked the inn briefly, and not seen either the bard or his friend there, Magda had wandered for a while, planning to return. He wandering took her down to the docks, where she sat down leaning against a wooden support. The sounds of the river traffic, the working bustle and the sight of the fascinating wooden craft calmed her mood gradually, as she basked in the warmth of the sun.

As she sat she noticed the eyes of the locals watching her warily. Whether it was for her "foreign" a appearance or because she was seen to be one of the Baron's troops she could not know. Quietly, when none were looking her way, she wished herself unseen. Disregarded and unnoticed she drifted into a doze.

The lieutenant woke with a start and glanced sharply around. It was late, the sun was touching the horizon and the heat of the day was slipping into the cool of the evening. Irritated with herself, and aware none knew her whereabouts, she rose, brushed herself down, and made for the castle.

It was only when she was nearing the gates that she remembered the meal invitation and sighed. Heading straight for their rooms she bathed and glared at the options for clothing that had been laid out on her bed.

It was strange to think they might soon have seen the last of this place. He wondered how he'd look back on all this months or years from now. Would it seem like an old fever-dream; some drunken fortnight half-remembered, almost as if nothing had happened at all? Would they all just go right back to patrolling the streets of Baghdad.

Strange thing to picture.

Not that Greggs would be missing any of this. He suspected some of his squadmates would, but he'd seen enough of the dark ages to decide he didn't much want to live in them.

But that line of thought brought him to some annoying questions. Just how much more did he really care for the world he'd been whisked away from?

((Presently fighting a nasty Virus invasion. Don't know if I'll be able to make today's game, but will try.))

Junior pondered as he sat soaking in the steaming bath. The court mage seemed confident he could send them all back tomorrow. Given the last attempt, and his general distrust for egghead types, Junior had serious doubts this would pan out.

Even if it did, did he really want to go back? He'd gotten pretty comfortable in this new world. He'd discovered new talents, some of which would be virtually worthless back home. An ambitious man could carve out a pretty good life in this place. He'd certainly have a better shot here than back home as just another grunt.

He wouldn't be alone. Maj was staying, he was certain of it. He'd gotten all wrapped up in his new-found magic and wolf friend; he wouldn't want to leave. While he wasn't dialed in to the whole nature thing Maj was into, they did seem to get along alright. He'd have a friend of sorts.

But who should he talk to about staying? The baron? The lady? The mage? Perhaps he should talk to Maj about going to one of these together? He'd have to give it some more thought, but not too much; tomorrow would be here all too soon.

Simmons stood while the ladies of the bathing room finished drying him off after stepping from the pool. Talk about been pampered and spoilt! It was in a class of its own, better than any spa destination he had ever heard of. What a way to end their time on this planet...or place...or wherever the hell they were. After all this time, they still hadn't established where or when they exactly were.

As the ladies helped him dress in his newly purchased clothing, his stomach gave a little reminder that he hadn't eaten anything since brunch time and that a last meal in the castle awaited, hosted by the Lady Tertulla. He was looking forward to it and to their imminent departure tomorrow.
