Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread

"That's why the Lady helps those who help themselves," Shanni responded in something of the usual cheery litany, having grabbed the ship's wheel without consulting with anyone. "I mean, if she helped those who don't try she'd never get to stop, would she? But it's easier to give a bit of a push to a rock that's already rolling than it is to get it moving all by yourself."
"And that's what we are doing! All we need to do is keep going East and we're bound to hit land sometime." She held up a finger into the wind, and peered up trying to get an idea of where the sun was. "All we need to do is decide where East is ......"

Nihmri sat near the back of the boat, cradling the crystal sphere she'd found on the island and staring at it as though within it were held all the secrets of the multiverse. Occasionally, she would rise and make minute, inexpert adjustments to the sails. When asked just what it was she was doing, she answered that she wasn't completely certain, but that it wasn't as though anyone else seemed to have much of a better idea.
"Fate is an abstraction," she said distractedly, some time after Suula's round of complaints. "The future is not yet written, but if you look closely you can see which way the pen is moving, even guess at the author's intent."
Frowning, she turned her head towards the turbulent seas. Took a deep breath.
"Fate is just what we call it when it's too late to change the bastard's mind."

Back in town Pius was given a new armor he also managed to purchase a proper plumed helmet. Both armor and helmet were suitable for a knight. His shield however was still lacking the proper heraldry. Red dragon was not really proper for a knight but it was not as bad has bearing a shield of Gruumsh. For now Pius would have to cover the shield with a piece of cloth or find a merchant able to dye or paint metal.
They were more important matters at hand though and soon the group went to undo Evil...

Slade listened carefully at the top of the stairs and peered down the staircase into the shadows below. He wasn't really sure why they were delving into this shrine, which thus far had seemed to have the usual assortment of undead and vermin prowling about. As the others discussed their progress and plans, he padded on ahead to scout.

"Isn't this fulfilling?" Shanni said, cheerily. "We've already gone a long way to getting rid of some particularly annoying undead creatures. That has to be something everyone can get behind, doesn't it? I mean, none of our patrons approve of that kind of nonsense." She casts a glance quickly at Suula.
"Or at least I'm fairly sure they don't approve of them regardless of a fondness for curses." She grinned cheerily in a deliberate subject change manner. "I mean, they're just messy and unattractive."
"We've still got a chance for personal gain here, we just need the big strong boys to keep doing their work." She turned the brilliant smile on Amathain. "You can trust in my blessings from the Lady to keep you going."

Suula's eyes narrow in the darkness, and they bore into her sister as the light in her hand plays strange shadows across her face. She takes stock of the others... before sliding over to Shanni's side, putting what would seem like a friendly hand on her arm, if not for the hint of nails digging in.
"I can see what you're doing," she said, murmuring at her from the corner of her mouth. "It won't work. It won't work... this time..." and here her face was hard and drawn. "... because you're not playing with the hearts of stupid boys here. He can see right through you, they all can. So why not just give it a rest just this once, hmmm?"
She smiled thinly at the others, a smile not quite touching her eyes.. nodding and shrugging as if all was right with the world.
