Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Ambushed!
Slade spotted a couple of black giants. The idea was to lure them out or shoot at them with arrows. It sounded simple enough. The attack started. All they had to do was to engage one of them, defeat him and move to the other.
Unfortunately, some rushed towards the first giant and others towards the second one uphill. Pius went uphill in an attempt to stop the giant from hurling boulders. But more giants came supported by a few elemental creatures. At one point Pius got surrounded. He was hurt. He though "Helm, am I to do die here and now or survive and fight another day?"
Somehow he got away and quickly retreated. The group was in bad shape. Pius could see some of his friends on the ground injured bleeding if not worse. He reached his backpack to look for healing kits and realised with horror that he had none...

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Slade frowned as he contemplated the way the fights had unfolded. The plan had been to lure individual giants to the waiting party. Unfortunately, the party hadn't waited and ended up engaging multiple giants and allies on multiple fronts. While they were able to eventually slay them all, they got pretty banged up in the process. This was becoming the standard and had to stop, so he took a deep breath and stood up and addressed the others.
"I'm just a scout and archer, but if you all insist on rushing on my heels, I'm not going to have time to fully discover our enemies strength before you engage, at your peril. nor will it be feasible to lure single victims. Furthermore, if you're crashing thru the underbrush behind me alerting foes to our presence, I miss out on the chance to knock off a victim, or two, with a single well-placed shot, which just means more work for the rest of you. I think you warriors need to get a bit more organized and work closer together. If things continue as they've been, I foresee serious problems when we deal with the giants en mass."

Just a reminder all that Daylight Savings Time hits the United States this weekend. It won't affect this week's game but it will alter next week for folks in regions that adopt it later.

Toric snorted at Slade's words. "Pfft. But ye're right, Elf. If'n we keep on doggin' yer heals, 'ho knows what we might stumble on? Ye just make sure yer feet are quick 'nough ta run back ta us if'n ye get into any serious trouble." He lifted a mug and drained it dry.

"There exists the distinct possibility that I have mentioned this before," Nihmri said, wryly. "But the best way to beat someone bigger than you are involves being smarter than they are. Or at the very least least, acting like you are. We should probably work on that."
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
Doubtless that could of gone better, and while I agree in general that we should keep a closer order, so as to support each other; in that particular battle I doubt there was much we could have done to bottle up their forces. If we had stayed put we'd have been in a similar position, lacking any viable choke points, we'd have run the risk of being held in place and battered with boulders and spells.
There was no hope of sneaking up on them one at a time, the area was too small and they were too on their guard to fail to notice one of their comrades hurling boulders around.
Let us just agree to learn from our mistakes and look to the future.

The moment of maximum frustration, the time when pointing fingers would do the most harm and hurt... these were the times a priestess of Beshaba studied, encouraged, and revelled in. The experience had almost cost her a sister, too! Thumped into the ground while dashing forward. Now was the time to cast blame, and watch everyone tear strips from one another in the scramble of culpability!
Yet at this crucial moment, Suula looked faraway, at the line of peaks in the distance, humming quietly and tunelessly to herself. She tucked a tendril of hair behind one ear, looking neither happy nor sad but the very picture of distraction. Only Amathain's voice attracted her attention, and she wore a befuddled frown for a few moments before she grasped the gist of what was being said.
"Um... also, yeah," she added, vaguely. "It's really good to try and help those who're fallen, but... not so good as to just run right into the thick of it, sis." She shook her head. "Thaaaat's trusting to luck a bit TOO much, you know. Let someone else get their attention first... if someone can actually try to lead trouble away from the fallen, that's great too..."
She trailed off, contemplating the overcast sky and smiling eerily.

She bit .....
"Right. Fine. I won't run in to help any one any more," Shanni snapped. "When everyone is off scattered to the four winds, and that includes wandering around the nearest mile of ground just in case you might find something trapped under a rock when there's a problem much closer to home, or dragging a load of them back to where we are as you're not as damn good as you think you are, I won't run around trying to help."
"I'll trust to luck that you'll pick yourself up off the ground when you need help and stagger back to me," she turned and glared specifically at her sister. "And you can hope that your Lady doesn't decide that you've been such a model priestess that you should come and sit by her side."
"Now I'm going to go and have the dent beaten out of this while you all decide whether you want my help or not," Shanni span around as if to flounce off then paused, possibly because she'd no idea where to storm off to. "Pah!"
