Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3

The Greeks had found the herd and with more steel than words managed to acquire it. The journey back was almost uneventful except for the beasts that almost killed them all. They managed to kill or eat a number of animals. Only a few remained.
It should not have mattered since they had enough to present to the King and that was after all the last task. Was it?
The King accused them of cheating, apparently Pol had kept a belt that was for the King so now he asked to perform another two tasks. Andreas was not happy about this. "You know Pol, if I die trying to complete our mission I will probably come back as a ghost and haunt you and your unborn children for a thousand years."
The only good news in all that was the fact that soon Andreas would have to fight an opponent, an old wrestler of some repute...

By the way who was hosting our last game LB or VM?

Damian snorted. "You'll have to wait in line, Andreas. At least the king so graciously gave us two more months to accomplish the onerous tasks he bequeathed us for 'our' attempt at fooling him. I wonder what he would do if he found out that Heracles is not who he says he is? 'Twould be interesting to find out." He shook his head. "I hope you're still in fine wrestling form. If not, Aias is always ready to wrestle. If you think he's getting too easy, I'll cast a blessing on him that'll make him stronger and tougher. Otherwise I can summon the tiger again," he grinned mischievously. "Just say the word and it'll be done."

"We nearly had the idiot," Kataramene states with a snort. "So nearly. I bet the moron wouldn't have known at all if Hera hadn't tipped off that priest...." She trails off into part snort part growl. "I'll show them hiding-behind-skirts the ... gah!"
She shook her head. "But you're right that it's odd they haven't been told that Telemachus isn't Heracles. If Hera has been watching us enough for it to be her sending those fell beasts after us, and not that satyr, then she'd surely know by now and if so why hasn't she passed that information on?" Her lips pursed thoughtfully. "Either she is not saying as to do so would reveal a culpability that she dares not be known, or it is not her and it is the satyr. Though if so he seems knowledgeable beyond expectation, for certain."
"If we go with the idea that there is something that Hera does not want known, then what is it and by whom does she not want it known?" Frowning Kataramene shook her head again. "Annoying though it is we still have another two months, and by then perhaps Iolaus will have found Heracles."
"Either way," she continued, "I don't regret him not having the Amazon Queen's belt. A gift of Ares should be put to better use than being locked up in some collection by the likes of him. It was meant to be worn by heroes, not pawed by that incompetent." Her brown eyes flashed looking sideways at Polytropus. "I think it's being put to good use where it is."

Polyyropos catches Kataramene's glance and reddens, giving her a bashful smile before realising other people are watching. He clears his throat and waves a hand dismissively.
"It'll, it'll be fine, friends," he insists. "Golden apples from nymphs, after all. That doesn't sound too hard. The man's running out of ideas, clearly. He's toothless, and he knows it! Tripping over his own logic. He daren't assign us anything too dangerous any more, because the moment it seems less dangerous to just fight him and his people and take our chances, than go through with his task, we will. It'll be fine! Like Kataramene says, we've bought more time... This is a good thing, really..."

"They're the ones who've bought time, Pol," Eleni said. She didn't sound angry - just resigned. "Time for more attempts on our lives. And if you think nymphs are harmless, I'm afraid you might be in for a rude awakening. You'd think I'd have taught you all the dangerous of charm spells by now."
"As for Iolaus... we've seen neither hide nor hair of him in months. I'm afraid he might have fallen into the same trap Heracles must have, which would not bode terribly well for us. I suppose there's not much we can do but carry on, though, for want of a trail... And we have to get Heracles' family to safety before we try anything too risky, besides."

Two more tasks, why was he not surprised? Still visiting nymphs didn't sound like such a bad change of pace from the assorted nasty monsters they'd tangled with of late. The new harp seemed like a nice trinket and had a nice sound to it. The magic embedded might help out the warriors in battle down the road as well. Would be nice to actually score some gold again though as his purse was rather light these days.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
"Of course Hera knows I'm not Heracles. She's known from the start. But she can't tell anyone because it would tip her hand. The next question would be "then where is the real Heracles?" and she doesn't want to have to answer that."
