Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3

The warrior woman firmly at his side looks up for a moment, eyes seeking his. "I think perhaps the old heroes always had these trials," she responds. "For everyone you pleased with a deed you can be sure someone else was offended. Much like it was at ... Mantineia, we are always striving to please someone. I came to terms with that a long time ago. That what one person will encourage another will not."
"We can't please all of the people all of the time, but those heroes of old?" Kataramene shrugs a little and gives a soft smile. "They kept trying. Born to do something that needed to be done. So maybe that's us? Maybe we were born to do this because the fates decreed it would happen?" She shrugged again and reached for his hand and gave a reassuring smile.
"I don't know, I just know that I am still happier here in this moment of strife that I could ever have been if I'd gone the way expected of me." The smile set into one of determination. "And I plan to walk out the other side and have more of them."

Pol had raised a point Leonaidas hadn't really contemplated before; gods had forever to seek revenge, and with all that time on their hands, it seemed unlikely they would overlook getting crossed by mere mortals. He wondered if they forgot good deeds done on their behalf as readily. He tended to think the gods viewed mortals as simple game pieces in the contests between themselves. He wondered how valuable a piece the group was viewed as, and to what degree they would be protected for later play.

"Cheer up friends! You saved them!" Zokos says with a smile. "I am sorry that your homecoming was not as happy you had imagined, and they are probably right that we should stay away for the time being, but considering the strife we have seen lately I think your village got off rather easily. "
Addressing the group but looking mostly at Polytropos, "We do not bring these evils with us, whatever the specifics of our current situation, they would be there without us. This is not the first time in history that Pain, Famine, and the others have visited the mortal world. We are simply moving to stand between the Scions and those we care about, like shield bearers, and in so doing we are exposed to the full wrath of their attacks. We suffer to protect our fellow mortals, without us they would suffer more, and few who understand should envy our lot."
He pauses a moment, then frowns and shakes his head, "I sill can't believe you saved that wretch of a man before the dog."
Standing suddenly, "I'm in the mood for a lot of wine before we go off to find what evils Forgetfulness has in store for us!" He looks from Andreas to Polytropos, "Who's with me? On your feet soldiers!"

Everyone's at least 17th level or higher now, so +2550xp for full-party IC posting.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
No server yet? Or new IP?
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
I'm not showing it either. Getting the "Connection failed, try a new Nick" message, so I can only access my favorites and history. If there is a new IP we'll need it to initiate a direct connection. Could be Topato just forgot to set it up so we'll need VM to run hers today.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
I don't have the full back up, I can't get at the server either - couldn't to download the changes from last week - so I think there is a problem with it since Topato set it up. We can run on last weeks characters but that's all I have.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
Oh... OK just need an ip address...
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #3
All right, let's do that then. I think the only thing that we would miss is some XP and Eris's rod, which I can replace in-game.
