Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread
Poseidon. They actually received a gift from Poseidon, Damian thought to himself as he ate breakfast. He didn't normally pay much attention to the Gods and Goddesses, but knowing that him and his companions were able to please one made him feel really good. He was glad that they didn't need Aias help in reaching the forgotten shrine, but he wished his friend was able to join in during the battle with that rather large alpha wolf. He didn't know what had caused the wolf's metamorphosis, but he was still convinced it had something to do with that strange piece of metal they found in its hide. He only hoped that Miltiades could figure out its properties because he had a feeling that wouldn't be the last they saw of that particular metal. He would talk with Ismene and see if she had any visions of another village nearby that could be a threat.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread
Not a full moon cycle had passed since Andreas and the other youngsters had taken a series of trials beyond their usual duties and training. They had received gifts like the small cottage, the trident, the wolf pelt and that piece of metal that may become part of a spearhead or dagger. They did pay a hefty price as some of them had attracted the attention of Ares or even Hades. Death was waiting at every corner and in every possible shape or form. Was it better to be killed by a poisonous toad, the bite of a large wolf, swallowed by a large reptile, eaten by giant crabs or crushed by a large boulder? None of that sounded glorious or appealing.
For the time being, resting and enjoying some wine was the best thing to do. After a good night, Andreas could resume his training unless the Gods had once again planned otherwise...

Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread
With everything that had happened over the past few days, Eleni had, to her own surprise, nearly forgotten about the upcoming festival. This was in spite of having quite looked forward to the whole thing - Mantineian festivities weren't much compared to the grandiose and exotic events that often occupied her daydreams, but she'd always refused to let such things stop her from enjoying herself giving half an excuse to do so.
She supposed it was just as well there was something on the horizon to occupy her attention. This whole misadventure had been fun, but with the shrine restored and such and that strange piece of metal probably just being an odd curiosity, Mantineia would probably return to its usual not-terribly-interesting self in short order, much as Eleni hoped otherwise.
Right?

Katamarene's pout was severe. Standing fists on hips and positioned "just so" as usual, the artfully sulky expression faced them down as they returned.
"You didn't have to go without me, my ankle wasn't that bad after it was soaked and rubbed down," she told them in a tone that echoed her expression, carefully avoiding any indication of exactly who had done the soaking and rubbing. "Where did you go? What did you do?" She gestured with vague irritation at the village at large. "Everyone here is just too busy with the festival to notice."

Telemachus spent much of the evening putting his new trident through familiar spear forms, and then some of his own imagining, taking advantage of the tridents prongs and longer reach he adapted a few quater-staff moves for blocking with the shaft and striking with the little lizard-killer at the bottom. It was truely a fine weapon for a young hero, it felt lighter and quicker than anything he'd ever used, and the tines were sharp as little shards of glass. He looked forward to using it to slay some real monsters, and win himself some fame and glory.

Leonaidas gave Katamarene a warm smile.
So good to see you up and about. We journeyed into the hills to fetch the olive wood required in exchange for the bronze we needed to repair the fountain at Posidan's shrine. Alas, the tree was in the territory of a fierce wolf pack, which we dispatched after a terrible battle. The pack leader was particular large and his pelt is being used to craft some hide armor for us. We did recover enough both for the merchant and ourselves to have a bow crafted. The smith forged the bronze from the merchant into a perfect copy of the spigot which we then took to the shrine and carefully fitted it. Posidan was pleased at our labors on his behalf and a marvelous trident appeared at the foot of his statue as a token of his favor. So, yes, you did miss some exciting adventures. However, I am sure the extra rest will insure you are able to perform even more ably in the upcoming festival games. I look forward to cheering you on!
Ah, the festival, he thought to himself. Plenty of folk from outlying hamlets and farms would come in to join that. Perhaps he would take part in some of the wrestling or boxing; it was always a sure way to win extra admiration from the young ladies in attendance. So many women, so little time.

"It's all true!" Polytropos insisted, subtly shifting into the foreground. "And then, there's this..." he pointed to the sliver of dark, oily metal taken from the great wolf's body. "We fought a battle alright. Was a hound of Hades himself! Eyes glowing like coals, leading the other wolves like a king. And while Andreas skinned him, he found that. Not bronze, or tin, or iron, or silver. Could be anything! Exciting, eh? Eh?"
"... but, yes, the Festival too," he adds when this fails to get a reaction. ""I think the wresting might be mine, this year."
