Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
The undead were a more serious problem than anybody thought - Lord Dhelt's city's outskirts were completely overrun and only those brave men and women who volunteered to be avatars of Helm kept them from breaching the city's walls. At least he had powerful guests who might be able to figure out what these so-called Shards of Malice were and how to properly destroy them. Toric was more than glad to have them off of his hands because they made his skin crawl and he didn't like how they affected some of the party members. He resolved to keep a closer eye on both Nihmri and Suula over the next few days to see if the loss of the shards affected either adversely or if either starting talking about missing them.
It was good that the party returned to the city because the Temple of Waukeen was holding a private market and there Toric was able to find some sturdier boots and a nice set of armor which granted more protection than his old set and made him sturdier in the process. Between learning how to call upon his ability to go into a defensive stance more often, along with the constitutional blessings of both his gear and his God, he felt as if he would be able to shield the others more effectively so they could concentrate on the fight and not have to worry as much about defense. Now if he could just get the others to let him be that wall the enemy crashed into head first everything would be golden.

The forest has been cleansed for now. After leaving the druid, the group encountered a green dragon engaged with a group of undead. Among them, tiny skeletons. The devoted helped defeat the creatures and as the dragon granted them free passage. Pius was satisfied that another meaningless fight was avoided. Once moving closer to town more undead where spotted and defeated including some exploding zombies. Eventually, they arrived at the city gate. The town was now under the protection of "Avatars" in addition to the the regular soldiers and militia. Apparently they were called Avatars of Helm. Pius felt a bit silly for not knowing who or what they were. After reporting and discussing strategy with the authorities the group went to purchase supplies. Pius who was not interested in such pursuit left his share to the others. Later it appeared that Toric was in need of extra funds. Pius helped by donating an extra 3000 gold coins only keeping some change. He also received a gift from Toric, a pair of enchanted boots...
// About Time slot
IIRC during Summer Time (e.g. last week), for those of us in the far East, the game time slot is is 22:30 (Sat) - 00:30 (Sun) in HK and 23:30-01:30 in Japan. Once we go into Winter Time we are pushed to 23:30 - 01:30 and 00:30-02:30 respectively.
If those who are on/near GMT time or American time are willing to play earlier during Winter it would be a great help.

On returning to the city to report their findings on the undead outbreak, the group found the city itself under siege by the undead. The party swept through the suburbs clearing the dead they encountered in order to enter the city. After delivering their oral report, various captured papers and the two pieces of shard recovered, the council granted them a sizeable reward and the opportunity to purchase from a selection of items held in the vault of a local temple.
Slade looked long and hard at the options available. There were several items which caught his eye, some protective, some offensive. After a bit of soul-searching he settled on a powerful bow. His ability to disappear into the shadows made the protective devices a little less important. The bow would hopefully increase his effectiveness in supporting the warriors. On too many occasions, his old bow had been completely ineffective in piercing enemies' protections and he had been reduced to the role of a simple bystander. Alas, the purchase had nearly emptied his purse. More good paying work would need to be undertaken before he could afford to buy any comparable improvements to his personal defences.
//As Mirg pointed out, we're up pretty late here, especially when the time change kicks in for the Fall. Thus, I couldn't start any later than our current schedule, and would be happy if an earlier start was feasible.

Suula spends several minutes peering at a full-length mirror, critically examining the mithril-mail she'd managed to afford, the ring she'd scrounged that sparkled on her finger. At length, she gives a satisfied hmm - the expenditure of money in exclusive locations apparently agreeing with her. "You know, it's almost a good thing that there's some big overblown threat to the land and we have to knock on the door of a feared corpse-king," she quipped almost cheerfully, looking at the others in the background of the mirror. "It's made us try and look like we're taking this halfway seriously."
She hides an all-too-easily-caught smile at the sight of Shanni struggling with the full-plate she'd managed to get. "Having trouble?"

Shanni does struggle, trying to handle the shape of the new shield in the heavier armour. "I suppose so," she commented, "it's just a little difficult to believe we just spent enough gold to keep a village running for ever. Buy it and the castle above it even!" Twisting and turning she fiddled with fastenings until the armour settled on her form, she retained a frown even when it was fitted.
"We were always told adventurers could find their fortune but I don't remember anyone telling us they had to plough most of it back into the job." The young cleric sighed. "We could have retired to a life of luxury but I don't suppose that's feasible with this threat hanging over us. It's a little difficult to relax in the comfort of your castle, eating good food and drinking fine wine, with zombies banging on the door." She grinned a little. "It'd spoil the view."
"Just whatever you do don't ask me to run into battle in this armour," she arranged her cloak artfully over her shoulders and hefted the shield, "and I am never going to be able to loose hold of this thing."
((The group has players from almost as far apart time zone wise as it's possible to get so timing is never going to be easy, I think LB plays at 7:30 a.m. as it is. Yes it's late afternoon for me, and that may sound convenient, but with family commitments my weekends are busy and I'm often out of the house until just before and/or straight out after game. In the end though I consider the decision on timing as down to the DM, even if we're consulted, and as players we fit in with it.))

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
"Oh, retiring to a life of luxury is plenty feasible," Nihmri said, with a half-concealed yawn. "It's just that we'd have to move halfway across the realms, abandon our sacred duties, and damn thousands if not hundreds of thousands of souls to a fate worse than death."
She pondered this for a moment or two, then clacked her tongue.
"You know," she said. "When you consider our odds of success, all of that starts sounding really tempting."

Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
"I can't imagine a single one of you being idle for more than a week or two at most." Remarked Amathain, pulling on some new boots. " You'd be driven mad by boredom, and find yourselves back out on the road looking for a new challenge. At least we're doing something worthwhile here instead of chasing some nebulous idea of fortune or fame."

+2250xp for full-party IC posting.
RE Time change: If I'm reading correctly the DST shift won't affect us this week but will be an issue next week. The discussion morphed into a broader issue of a permanent time change but it seems like some folks might have a difficulty with that. I could manage 6:30 a.m. but given how this would affect everyone I think we'll do an in-game vote via tells so everyone can submit their preference to me anonymously. If you absolutely cannot manage a one-hour shift speak up beforehand as I think that would affect the outcome, otherwise we'll go with the majority. I will stipulate that I will vote with the majority so we don't have a chance for a tie.
My current understanding is that we have 2 US, 3 Europe, and 2 East Asia in the group. Europe does DST one week off from the US and East Asia doesn't use it at all. If that's incorrect let's talk about it in game.

EDIT: forgot to add myself, so that would be 3 US, 3 Europe, and 2 East Asia.

((Correct on the DST impact, no change for tomorrow's game. Re time zones Topato, Smart Alec and myself are all UK and Shadani is Belgium (an hour ahead of UK), so 2, 4, 2.
I'm also coming out of the closet on not wanting a change. I already have some difficulty making the time and a shift in either direction will make things very awkward for me.
