Saturday Morning Guns, Goblins, and Steel

Greggs rubbed his forehead, frowning.
"I don't see what we stand to gain here from pushing our luck, Kemal. Near as I can see, all that'll get us is more trouble and lower chances of actually getting home, as I doubt these things will appreciate our playing games with them. Though that's all assuming any of these things have the slightest intention of actually helping us out in the first place, of course..."
The corporal sighed, tired in more ways than one. He looked over to Magda. "What do you say, ma'am?"

"Same as I did before," Magda replied. "Ping pong. We let them send us away then we decide. We play the game that gives us the best chance of staying alive because you're right, Greggs." She looked around the group. "I don't think these bastards've got the least intention of letting us go anywhere, let alone helping us go home." She looked at the decorative containers that held each demon's blood in turn.
"Getting to think that we don't use all of this shit up, though," the Lieutentant added. "Anyone remember all that voodoo cr.... well, who knows if it was crap now but whatever, remember that? Power held over you if they had your hair or toenails or some such shit and made it into a doll of you, that kind of thing." She shook the bottles a little. "Maybe, just maybe, we got leverage here."

Junior stroked his chin as he listened to the other for a bit before interjecting.
Seems like the only chance we got of gettin outta here is rolling the dice with one of these sides. If we piss'em both off, we're likely to be stuck here a long time. So, figure we best scout out both and then decide which we have some chance of actually beating.

Re: Saturday Morning Guns, Goblins, and Steel
Hey all. My summer vacation plans have just been expanded. I am going to be unavailable on both July 7 and July 14, so GGS will be on hiatus for those dates. I'll send an e-mail to everyone with this same info.
Re: Saturday Morning Guns, Goblins, and Steel
It was no longer ping-pong as there were three of them, which probably made it more like pinball. Them bouncing every way to try and find what they needed. They'd seen the portal and she seen the strange monuments that appeared to control it. She'd thought the creature would know, but the shadows could conceal the intent of her mind too it seemed. Useful perhaps that she hadn't described it out loud before, but she couldn't speak of it now either. Speak of the fact that she knew the key to making the work.
Magda had no idea why it made sense, how she felt the tug of the vials to the two pillars, how she sensed the shape of something else that was required, but had long since asking such questions. Nothing here made sense if you applied the rules of her own world, but whatever the changes were that this place had made to her - or simply brought out in her - they caught the sense of it. She knew that if she saw it, she would know the additional trigger for what it was.
It also brought with it other thoughts. The snake woman might say it had no interest in their world but Magda remained cynical. That the essence of the fire and ice bat fiend things could work the portal seemed a little too coincidental. They'd no way of knowing the creature was on the level, her telling them she couldn't be trusted was likely a ruse. You can trust me because I've told you I can't be trusted. Yeah, right, tell it to the judge. The lieutenant snorted.
"This pinball is aiming for that hole, however many flippers it has to dodge."

Pulling a Yojimbo trick
There it was, not a coin with a hot face and a cold one, each trying to fall on their respective side whenever the Gods would try to toss it. So far they had met two sides, one cold and harsh and the other hot like a lava pit. They had considered playing both sides like double agents in some old cold war movie. They were pretty sure that whatever they could do to help, the winning side would soon dispose of them like simple toys. Divide and conquer like the Romans? Not really as there was a third player who proposed to assist them. But could one ever trust a snake saying I won't bite you? Majid was pretty sure that, the third power would also try to dispose of them sooner or later. They would probably have to fight the entire plane just to get a ticket home...

"I prefer to think of it more like billiards, ma'am," Greggs grumbled. "Sure as hell feels like we keep getting knocked around by people wanting to do unmentionable things to us with over-sized sticks."
He slowed his march for a moment, frowning. That analogy hadn't quite worked out the way he'd hoped it would.
He shrugged.
"Either way, it's clear what we've got to do. Alea iacta est, etcetera."
