Wen seems uncomfortable at Ning's comment, looking grave. "I understand the spirits are present, and busy," he says. "Heaven knows, I understand it more than I did yesterday. But it doesn't feel right for you to be blown about by them so, and forgive me for saying it, but you seem unhappy by it. Can you keep your centre?"

"As the teachings say," Wen adds, holding up the book he gathered from the tower of the Wu Jen. "Thirty spokes have one hub, but it is in the empty space that the axle resides that the wheel depends on."

"Water whispers as rain and shouts as storm, and water knows a lot." Moriko says in a sing-song voice, then laughs down at Master as the old panda rumbled. "Yes, water falls on plants and plants learn what water knows, and animals eat plants and animals learn what plants know but twist and forget." She span around dancing along.

"And animals eat animals learn what animals twisted and not what they forgot, then they twist and forget." She smiled brightly at Wen then nodded sagely at Ning. "Those who know listen to spirit and not the animal. The animal twists and turns what it knows because it thinks. Don't think. Know!"

Tsun nodded at Wen's words. "Wise words, my friend. The spirits can be our guides, but they should never be our masters."

Tsun watched Moriko as she danced about with a raised eyebrow. "Did anybody understand what she just said?"

Giant Red Ants.

Who would think that so many strange things could happen in such a remote village with nothing much to be noticed except perhaps a monastery.

Yet, the village was surrounded by creatures and monsters of legend. Walking dead under the earth, hostile plants, birds and now gigantic fire ants.

Tenko started to think that this village may not be the best place to hide or retire. Apparently all this did not bother too much the young dragons he was now travelling with. They were all very different but somehow together they were like a little army. Nevertherless, Tenko was wondering if next they would be facing ninja-like kappas in some steamy tunnels or some other legendary creatures and how they would fare against more dangerous foes...

Ants. Crawling around in winding unlit tunnels killing bugs wasn't Gojiro's idea of a good time. Particularly, when they weren't getting paid anything to do it. Apparently, they killed enough of the red ones to, temporarily at least, put an end to marauding ant scouts terrorizing the village. He wondered whether he'd ever save up enough coin to buy a decent blade, not that there were any such weapons to be found in this dump of a place.

Moriko wandered towards the indicated hut nodding slowly as Master rumbled on and in a break in the rumbling asked. "I see, but that's strange. Why don't they?" The rumbling continued a moment or two longer and she nodded again turning around as they reached the doorway.

"Master says it's important to know respectable guests make respectable hosts, and gifts given freely give the greatest reward." She paused again as the old panda grumbled some more. "Also that when you sit in a doorway you can see inside the house and outside the house." She paused again as the bear grumbled again. "Also to get out of the way so I can go ...... oh, sorry Master."

She slid to the side looking suitably chastised as Master gave a nod and plodded into the hut.

"You know for something the shape of a panda your master has an awful lot to say for himself. I'm almost tempted to learn to speak bear to find out if the translations are accurate."

"I'm not sure if it works that way," Ning said, frowning at the bear in question. "Maybe it's sort of like the spirits. They have to decide they want to talk to you, first. Otherwise, well... there's not much point."
