Reminder to self: Neutralize the epic fire traps next time.

Also note: Blood Warriors hit real hard, use sparingly.

Death. Toric had felt death's cold touch before, but never like this. The previous time he was in Moradin's halls drinking ale before his friends were able to call his spirit back to his body. This time...this time he didn't know where he was, but he knew he didn't like it. He could barely feel his Gods' presence here and knew he was treading on dangerous ground. Suula had warned him to stop, but being as stubborn as, well, a dwarf, he ignored her and ran headlong into the enemy fully convinced he could just stand there and take their blows. Little did he know that these particular undead were of a tougher stock than the ones the group had fought previously. He quickly learned his lesson and stacked out a patch of dirt in the cave they had just entered and waiting for his foe to come to him. Perhaps when Am decided to clear out that fog in his head, Toric could go back to being a battering ram. Even then, he would have to be careful because Pius was no longer in the group and while Shani was a capable warrior in her own right, she struggled take his place in a pincering move. What he needed to do was figure out how to keep the enemy focused on him without being overwhelmed or putting his comrades in danger trying to rescue him from his own stupidity. There would have to be time enough for that later because this cave was proving very treacherous and not just because of the undead which guarded it.

The group found themselves in the fortress of a devil who was willing to work with them against their common enemy Orcus. All they had to do was infiltrate via a back passage into the enemy stronghold while the devils forces attacked the main entrances. Naturally, this turned out a lot worse than expected and the party got badly mauled by the the mix of demons and undead defending this minor entrance. The matter was further complicated by the vents of fire which erupted at random intervals, frying any unfortunate enough to be within their flames. Badly burned, the party pulled back to heal their injuries and rethink their approach.

An adventure to die for.

After being rescued by the devoted Althor was glad to be invited (not recruited) to travel with them and go after evil foes. Althor would never pass a chance to "undo undead" and kill a few demons. He did not know who he was venturing with and how they would fair in battle. He knew that he was very good at providing support to those engaged in melee and those hurling spells. He was however not suited for close range combat and even less without proper equipment. He was confident that he could match Slade's prowess, if not right away, as soon as he could regain his powers. For the moment his enchanted arrows were less effective making it difficult or impossible to hurt some of the creatures they encountered.

As they ventured into one of the lower plane, they encountered a group of undead. Toric, the dwarf charged against all odds. Chaos followed. Althor found himself chased by a group of undead. He tried to run and hide in the fortress where they had spent the previous night however is escape attempt failed and he was easily killed.

He must have been raised but then he asked himself if this group was suited to venture in such place. The question was valid considering he had travelled these deadly places alone or with at most two companions. In any case it was too late to turn back.

Later that they entered a cave and where attacked again. As Althor and other members of the group tried to move around a series of explosions incapacitated many of them.

He did however managed at some point to launch one of his explosive magical arrow...

//

Please note that Althor cannot seriously melee anything due to low HP/AC and lack of equipment. Also being only level 14 or 15 does not help.

Even the divine touch of healing wasn't completely instant. The body took a moment or two to realise all was well; the phantom of the pain didn't give up the ghost right away. They'd all felt it - which was why Suula felt more than justified in saying, "Ow."

She slid back up the rock-wall she had slumped against, and looked at the others. She was still pale from recovery, and the grim light of gloom gave even her hair a muted, greyish tone. "I swear, we should all be made of scars by now if not for... look. People, Toric. We do not want to die here, you understand? There's too much in the air... too much snatching at us. We do not want to be adrift... here." She swallowed. "It's cold out there."

Shanni nodded in rapid agreement. "When I say this place is evil I mean it. This place is evil," she said with emphasis. "It's in the air, the soil, the very substance of the place. I can feel it at every step. Nor is there any order," she continued, "It's turning and twisting in the mind, working against every attempt we make to work together as a unit."

"We have to be careful." Looking around at their faces her expression took on something of a pleading tone. "Very careful. I can't hear my Lady fully and I don't know if I will be able to pull you back if you fall." She paused. "There's a very real chance calling out might pull something back which isn't you at all." She paused again. "And if that happens your soul would be left here. Forever."

"I don't think any of us were under the impression this was going to be a nice little vacation." Nihmri sat cross-legged on the floor, inspecting her gear. Anything to keep the mind busy at a time like this, in a place this wretched. "S'not just our souls we need to worry about, though. These are the Grey Wastes. Stay here long enough, and the place changes you. Makes you forget who you are, and why you even came here in the first place. That's just what this place does. That's what it's for."

She surpressed a shiver, then shook her head.

"I guess what I'm saying is, well... don't forget to remind each other every now and then."

I'll see if the Duke can send some muscle along to help you out tomorrow, but as long as Amathain is out you may want to switch to hit-and-run tactics, luring enemies into choke points, and/or preparing the ground with traps or spells.

Also +2250xp for full-party posting.
