'What a wasted effort!' Simmons thought to himself as they concluded their talk with the rebels. The LT was right, there was some personage or faction that wanted them out of the way in Camar. Probably hoped the rebels would "take care" of the problem permanently. If that's what they had counted on, they were sadly mistaken. Simmons's first instinct was to pay them back in spades and wipe out everyone that had the slightest connection to this mysterious faction. But perhaps there was a place for a bit of guile and misdirection. But how to approach the problem? First chance he got he would have to speak to the LT and the others when they were on their own.

This was not Greggs' Surprised Face.

A deadly wild goose chase was precisely what he'd expected, and reality had, for a change, failed to disappoint him. But he dreaded what was to come next. People trying to kill him from the front was business as usual by now, but this was politics.

Added to that, he wondered whether all his compatriots were really on board with this exciting new plan. Not everyone seemed terribly eager to leave this world behind, and he worried that one in particular might be suffering from inconvenient loyalties...

Best to watch one's friends as closely as one's enemies...

Junter Quietly fumed. This was yet another example of the Duke wielding power with all the subtlety of a drunk with a mace. These people weren't a threat to the realm, they were a threat to his ego. Not for the first time he thought that The Church spent far too much time taking the gentle approach with him, trying careful council when what he needs is a kick in the rear end.

"Cast Away!"

Majid did not know that the expression could be used literally. After being kicked out of the castle, eating, drinking and arguing about the fairness of being stuck for good in another world with Junior the troopers went to investigate rather strange rumors. After breaking and entering the private quarters of a VIP and finding possible evidences the course of a rather pleasant day took an unexpected turn. A short confrontation took place, a few words exchanges, no blood, no fight per say, just a spell and bye bye Texas.
The place was barren, dark and full of demonic creatures. Who said it was unfair to get stuck in another world? How about another world within another world? Majid urged his friends to find some cover to avoid being spotted by wandering creatures. They found some caves and went in...

Magda stared at the mouth of the cave before them for a while as the others caught up. It didn't look particularly inviting, or a promising place to go, but they had no where else and couldn't just stand still considering the things they'd already faced. They'd no real food beyond a few dry rations some of them might have held onto, and likewise for water. The non-coms had both inadvertanly left any form of protection behind them, even, just thank whatever gods there were here that they hadn't left their weapons too.

Why the hell hadn't she seen it? His name had cropped up over and over again, seemingly positive but now - she looked back - almost always where things were going wrong. The unpreparedness of the High Priest to help now surfaced as a deliberate attempt to put things obstacles their way. Lady Tertuila, if he hadn't killed her himself, had probably not been called back or whatever it is they meant. The curse on the wizard probably lay at his door. Now the Duke was heading into a situation where he'd be in danger, at a time when he'd alienated his Baron and a strong military supporter. Playing everyone behind the scenes.

Now they were stuck in wherever this hell hole the priest referred to as the Abyss was, but one thing remained. She still wanted to get home, and if it was possible to find a way in this place she damn well would. And if it could be arranged to screw that bastard Jorriff over on the way, so much the better.

Sometimes, Greggs hated being right. But not quite as much as he hated this place.

The air seemed to burn his throat. He could still feel the spines of those rabid creatures from before stabbing into his flesh, and the image of those shambling, maggot-ridden bags of meat was burned into his retinas. No clue where they were, and if they'd ever have a chance to leave. If it wasn't hell, it was close enough to count.

And worst of all, now I've got blood all over my fancy new clothes.

Ever the optimist, he didn't really expect to get out of this new mess. But hey. What did any of them have to lose now?

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse... Junior shook his head as he pondered their new predicament. Cast into hell by an angry priest. If the padres back home had that power, there'd sure be a lot more believers. At least they'd been able to kill the demons or devils, or whatever they were called, they'd run into so far. The numbers was what worried him though. The team couldn't fend off endless hordes forever. They'd have to find somehow or someone to get themselves out of here.

Simmons kicked himself. 'How could I've been so stupid?' His first regret was leaving his armour in the Inn but that seem the right thing to do at the time. After all they were just going for a stroll around town to forage for some information. However, the thing that most got to him was failing to see that the High Priest was behind all the machinations. The clues were there for anyone to see. "Too long in the Army I guess.'

But now their situation had really gone to hell in a hand-basket. And not just figuratively either! 'What IS this place?' Their surroundings were like something from a nightmare and appeared to be getting worse. Was he losing his mind?

Looks like everyone should be at least 9th level now, so +900xp for Greggs, Washington, Sarge, Magda, and Kemal.

To say Junters world veiw had been rocked would be an understatement. How could the High Priest of the faith be a traitor? How could this man, who he'd known for years be a traitor without him noticing? Was he an imposter? He was still reeling, and now, here they were, plunged into the very abyss itself. He sent up a quiet prayer to The Father, if ever he needed his strength, it was never more than now.
