((Server is up with usual details

Just a quick note though that I may be away next weekend as I could have a freebie ticket to the World Superbike British round - which I'm not turning down if it pans out - and definitely not the weekend after as I have a ticket for the nearby games Expo and am meeting a couple of folk who play there. I should be able to get the server up for both games though.))

The mission seemed straightforward enough, acquire some dragon hair for a local tailor, though again, Gojiro wasn't clear on what the reward for this was going to be. Anyhow, a bit of a hike up a river later, they found said dragon lounging in the river shallows. After some discussion, he agreed to part with some of his beard hair if the party could deal with some humans dumping trash into the river upstream from him. So, off they went up and up into the hills and mountains, looking for humans. Gojiro scouting ahead as usual, noted a watchtower on the side of a cliff and then a narrow swinging wooden bridge spanning a chasm with more armed humans arrayed beyond. It appeared to be another bandit lair. Attempts to negotiate failed as the bandits unleashed a barrage of arrows. These outer guards were dispatched without too much effort and the party prepared to sortie into the tunnels of the outlaw lair. Searching the bodies, they discovered some strangely curved blades, ones they'd encountered once before and which looked very familiar to him. He drew an older similar blade from a boot sheath and compared them; they were nearly identical. Gojiro's face hardened as a flood of bitter memories seemed to nearly overwhelm him. He warned the others this group was dangerous and evil and that no quarter should be expected or offered. Down into the hideout they plunged, slaughtering all the brigands they encountered. They found and freed a couple of prisoners, discovering the brigands had replaced one of the the towns people with an imposter spy. They found the leader deeper in the complex and Gojiro snuckforward and unleashed a deadly arrow into her, badly injuring her. However, before he could slip away he was caught in a volley of magic and fell bleeding. Fortunately, the others were able to follow up his attack and slay her and bandage him up as well. He searched carefully, but failed to find any evidence connecting these brigands to his family's demise, but then, it had been many years now, and he was certain any such proof would've been disposed of long ago. Nevertheless, in his bones he was sure they were to blame and it was with grim satisfaction that he burnt the place to ashes and left the leaders head spiked on a spear outside the complex with the old knife stuck deep into her skull. As a final step, he destroyed the swinging bridge leading to the hideout; anyone wishing to visit or rebuild the place would face some serious obstacles. He paused and offered a short prayer for the souls of his parents and siblings. Perhaps they would find rest now, he never would.

Some time during the journey back to the city Moriko went missing.

Much of the time she had traveled with them had been spent in the small dragon form. Darting around, soaring into the air and swooping down, and hovering in front her companions. If any questioned what she was doing or why she answered, "Practising!"

The first time her absence may have been noticed would probably be when relief at the cessation of her annoying behaviour wore off. The last time she may have been seen would be perched in the branches of a venerable oak tree. The really observant may have believed her to be talking to something though not certain what - nothing truly new.

((Definitely out 26th now and my known absences for the rest of the summer are:
- 2nd June
- 14 July
- 21st July
- 28th July (unconfirmed and only 50% likely)
It may change a little but if so I'll let you know. I can arrange for the server to be up though I can't always guarantee being able to reinstate it should it go down.))

Wen watched grimly, as Gojiro walked away from the smoking ruin that he'd left behind him; he gave the ronin a nod, seemingly understanding that there had to be something significant going on for the roguish samurai to be so thorough. Together with the rest of the Warriors, the smiths and the herbseller they walked on.

But a few hours in, it's clear the young swordsman is disturbed by what happened, looking back at the hills uncomfortably. And as Moriko flutters away in dragonling form - something that felt so usual and not strange at all, by now - he speaks up. "We ought to send a message to the court of Jinsha as soon as we arrive," he says. "If we simply walk in, and... strike down the woman claiming to be the herb-seller, we might have to spend much more time explaining ourselves, in poorer circumstances. It is said... as a warrior, one would dare not be like the host, but would rather be like the guest."

"Agreed," Ning said. "It is preferable to have Lady Huang's authority on our side before we do anything... drastic. We might not be able to prevent some sort of altercation, however. If the spy spots the real herb seller as we escort her to the castle... hrm."

"Perhaps we could provide her with a disguise of some kind? Even a hood might do. Anything to make it less obvious that the impostor is soon to be in trouble."

Before taking on this mission Tenko had been to see the merchants to see what they had to offer. One of them was an old herbalist woman. She did not respond when Tenko spoke to here but he did not make much of it and went to spoke to the nearby blacksmith.

// I only assumed that perhaps she was not a scripted merchant but just a NPC.

When the group found among the prisoners the very same herbalist Tenko felt strange about it. Was this prisoner the real herbalist and the one he spoke to earlier a fake. Or could it be that this one somehow planned to take the place of the real one?

"What on earth were these scoundrels up to? The need for a spy in town, well I can understand the utility that might have for a group of bandits. But why go to the extravagance and expense of replacing the herb seller with a duplicate? It's no base conjouring trick to change someones apperance permenantly. There must have been more purpose to this than simple information gathering. We should do our best to capture the imposter alive so that we can question them carefully."

"It is hard to say. Sure, they could have planted someone new in town, but that would have aroused suspicion. Meanwhile, replacing an old woman would be the last thing anyone would expect. So yes, it could simply be a simple information gathering role. However, it also could not depending on what connections the slain bandits held to other groups. I imagine there are many such people who might be interested in knowing what occurs in Jinsha and who enters and leaves. So yes, I agree with the suggestion that we capture the imposter alive." Huo added to the conversation as they continued their journey back.

// I believe I should be able to make future Saturdays with no problems, as far as I can predict right now.

Session 34

+1500xp for full-party IC posting.

Quick note that if you want to interact with an NPC and I don't immediately respond, you can send me a Tell on the DM chat channel. I can only be in one place at a time and it's hard to keep up when you split up into groups or go off on your own.

So here is the summer play schedule, based on what I know so far:

May 26: Vanya Mia out, play with 6
June 2: Off week
June 30 - July 21: Summer Break

We'll play on July 28th unless VM's server is down.

Let me know if anyone's plans change and we'll amend the above.
