Things were moving forward for the Dragon Warriors it seemed like. They were finding clues, accomplishing their tasks, and moving ever closer towards finding the true culprits behind the Element Men. But the clues weren’t suggesting good things about them.

For one, they were at the least a powerful group or an even more powerful individual. They were also smart. And lastly, they were more inclined towards dealing with non-humans... which suggested that they themselves were likely not human either...

It was all mere conjecture, yes, but he felt confident regardless that his conjecture was correct.

All journeys end.

As the others spoke to the irate Builder, Ning sought a quiet place to gather her thoughts. Moriko and Wen's voices bounced off the cavern wall, but she found that this did not distract from her musings. Such things had been the background noise of much of her life since leaving the monastery. Those peaceful days seemed so distant, now, swiftly vanishing beyond the horizon. When she tried to call to mind the girl she had once been, she barely recognised herself. Undisciplined, awkward, and so very afraid of the world beyond the walls that she had built for herself. Afraid of change. Afraid of the river.

The river is always changing. Every moment is an ending and a beginning.

For a while longer, Ning rested and wondered. Years from now, when she looked back on these journeys, what would be the thoughts of the woman she was becoming? What new lessons will she have learned, and what will be the names of her regrets?

The trip down into the mines did not take long and the group easily "removed" the invaders. Magical fire was used to remove a few holes making sure nothing else was going to crawl again into the builders mines at least for a while.

The group returned to the big city and reported to the lady. Soon they would go again...

Moriko curled up next to Master for a while but when the others fell asleep she got up and headed for the door. Master opened his eyes and raised his nose then with a heartfelt sigh heaved his bulk onto his feet and padded after her. The guards at the gate didn't attempt to stop them as they walked out of the town, though they may have ticked a list.

The pair made their way over the moonlight fields towards a small copse of trees, at the centre of which was a large and venerable old oak. There in its shadow Moriko sat down and rested her back against the bark of its trunk. Master hunkered down beside her once more. Lifting her face up through the leaves of the tree's canopy she watched the stars revolve slowly across the heavens for a while the spoke.

"Is there really a forest that is eternal?" she asked of no one one visible. Rather than answering Master too seemed to be awaiting something. The minutes stretched on with no audible response, just the rustling of the leaves and the creaking of branches, yet after a while she nodded and got to her feet, Master replicating her action.

"I will remember." She said and wandered away across the fields in the direction of town as the first fingers of light coloured the eastern sky.

By dawn there was no visible sign of the trees, just a patch of broken ground in the field.

Once more the group headed into the mines to clear out one final area of infestation. Gojiro wondered what exactly they would face and didn't take long, once past the sealed doors, to run into the hordes of strange vaguely humanoids who attempted to swarm over the party. Between spells and swords, these were all put down without any serious difficulty. Gojiro relied on his blade rather than his bow and slaughtered many of them unassisted. The wizard blasted shut the holes these creatures had crawled thru to reach the mines and the area was fully secured.

The return home was uneventful and Gojiro spent time disposing of loot with the merchants while the others went off to see their employers. Having finished his bargaining and divying out coins to the others, he retired to the tavern and relaxed as he enjoyed some well-earned ale. Eventually, the others reported back and he found they were headed off to another forest of some sort on their next mission.

I have to wonder, as we dash back and forth in every direction of the compass, are we dancing to someone elses tune? This seems like it would be a fine for our tomb robber to keep us busy while they about their real business. After all what have they gained from each of the people we've fought, except gullible fools to make distracting trouble?

They finally had a clue to the location of their thief, or so they believed anyways. The combined tablet was trying to lead them towards the eternal forest, but the Wu Jen still had no idea what the tablet would do once complete. In fact, now that he thought about it, there was no guarantee the thief was the one with the final piece.

What if it was all an elaborate trap to trick the Dragon Warriors into reassembling the tablet? This individual had already proven to be both clever and powerful. It was not outside the realm of possibility. . . But even so, he would not voice this thought to the others. There was no point worrying them over mere conjecture. Plus, this was their only lead and course of action regardless.

Instead, he would spend what time they had left before their journey studying the tablet to try and uncover its mysteries.

"Surely, it would be far easier for them to keep the secret of the stone soldiers to themselves?" Ning said. "Even if their purpose was to distract, all this chaos caused by his pawns have served only to bring more attention to the original theft."

"Still, we shouldn't underestimate our enemy. Even if all is as it seems, they have kept themselves well-hidden, and only the Architect's madness has given us any clue to his identity."
