ooc: sometimes i quote 6-7 skills and feats to establish a point, and LB just figures out what is relevant and does his thing. He's just THAT good.

I'm such a suck up.

To clarify on Jenniza's point, all you have to do is state something that your character wants to do (as Jenniza and Vanya Mia posted above) to help a current project, and give me the skill rolls you feel are most benefit. DCs are 15 for a minor success, 20 for a moderate success, and 25 for a major success. I roll and post each week the results; anyone who contributes to a project gets 100xp.
Using tertiary skills (such as Balance for reactor construction
) requires a much higher success than using a skill directly related to the objective.

((I'll have you know it's a job requiring real balance running cables along a high level tray! You ever seen those things? You really need to hear my other half on the subject, he'll tell you a tale or two.

Re: Backup Monday Night Game Discussion Thread
"Ok," the Russian declares, brandishing his work on his proposed 'X-Com Field Manual', scribbled down during the occasional breaks from reactor work. "Here is what I got."
There's some delay as the team struggle to grasp the meaning behind the half-English, half-Russian scrawled notes Vasily presents them with, but after some typically Vasilic annoyance he steps in to translate. As it turns out, some of it is what is already known, with a few strategic observations. Using explosives and laser fire against Sectoids, tear-gas and lasers against floaters, tear-gas and automatic weapons against Snakemen.
Other ideas are more based on observation. The idea of a 'kill order', suggesting that alien Soldiers are eliminated first so that the agents with stun rods can move in to capture what's left. The necessity of good cover, especially when fighting alien Medics and Leaders - Vasily explains that he's always noticed a slight delay between him being aware of the alien psychic powers and stun weapons and them affecting him, and that if he'd been looking for those details, he might have been able to reach a wall before they took effect.
Another paragraph deals on the exploitation of corners, a long-standing aspect of modern cityfighting. The alien ships, Vasily claims, are much more like attacking a large building than anything else. "Lot of corridors, lot of angles. Important that fire-team stick together, watch rear, stay near doors and corners during firefight so is easy to get out of sight if one of us hurt. They try to make us scatter with grenades I know, but I think our armour protects from the cloud."
There's some musing on moving as quickly as possible to buildings or terrain that would block line of sight if fighting outdoors. Lastly, the big man has a note on fighting where there is no cover to be had - an awkward situation faced by the team on their last outing - and on the feasibility of either outflanking an alien formation, or if it is particularly spread out, on drawing off and picking off their perimeter guards.
"What you think?" he asks, enthusiastic for once. "Needs more I know, but is a start!"

*in the wake of the reactor completion and the imminent alien attack*
There's no shock or fright in the big man's face, oh no. Only a certain grim, satisfied smile as he looks up at the reactor and the green light that indicates the laser battery is online. Vasily thumps a fist into a palm and turns on his heel, heading for the barracks and his armour.
"Time for round two," he growls.

OOC: I tried to post on the normal NWC, but it wouldn't let me - kept going to a blank screen that accused me of being a hacker. I guess NWC's anti-hacker measures are a little *too* effective right now.

((Hahahahaaa! I'm glad it wasn't actually me who rolled that one! though I am no longer going to ask you to do it in game, LB. ;D
NWC is doing the same to me, although it let me post earlier so that's odd. Maybe the characters used are important.))

Re: Backup Monday Night Game Discussion Thread
NWC's forum seems to have taken on an irrational hate for semi-colons.
For now, I'll monitor both forums, so post wherever you can, I'll give you credit. It might make our discussions a little schizophrenic for a while.
Well, more so.

Re: Backup Monday Night Game Discussion Thread
Not just semicolons; I did my best to prune punctuation out of my post, leaving only the commas, apostrophes and quotes, and had no luck.
We shall see. *experiments*

Re: Backup Monday Night Game Discussion Thread
It's probably the combination of punctuation that you would expect to see in scripts. My earlier post had those other marks but got through.
Re: Backup Monday Night Game Discussion Thread
It looks like the invite part is still down, I couldn't accept an invitation to another game. Anyways, I'll be there tonight.
