X-COM: Aliens

((That's probably going to rule them out for the SMG category then, the others should have been fine. I think an investigation is needed....))
Re: X-COM: Aliens
All I know is that in tests a sectoid could not use a Heavy Plasma when I ran him through the Recombinator into Muton form. The script should work identically for a PC, but as I said, we'll test it with a player character this weekend.
Re: X-COM: Aliens
The Quiet One was full of ideas. Full of thoughts and conflicts. The clones worked better together, but not all the clones wanted to work together. The Elder was not pleased. The Lab was working better. More information, it needed more information. Why did the Humans fight them? Why were the Elders not pleased with their success? Why did the Masters not give them better tools? What would be their next mission? Why why why?
It's young mind was in turmoil, but it knew somehow that to discuss this could cause problems. So it said none of this. When approached or given direction it broadcast affirmative--supportive--agreeing. "Improve lab, improve weapons. Understand."
//OOC Craft Mechanical 7, helping with the lab and then language.
Sorry but looks like I will be offline again this week (December 13) due to construction at my homestead. Good hunting out there!

Re: X-COM: Aliens
The Scowling One worked, for once, in efficient, brisk silence, intensely attentive to the tasks before it, keeping its disgust to a minimum. It followed the plan the Pale One seemed to have in mind. It didn't snap at the Quiet One when it spoke. It even managed to choke down its resentment at the Nimble One. All there was, it seemed, was the work.
"Yes. Yes, improve lab," it muttered, seemingly agreeing with the Quiet One. A flicker of superiority, of the need to correct, went unused, subsumed for the greater good.
At least, that was how it seemed. But anyone looking deep into the alien soul of the Scowling One could see the truth. The humiliation and the indignation at the Elders had grown... but also, a new feeling: greed. It could see the changes in the two clones who had been remade. It could sense the power in the Pale One. It could glimpse, dimly, the possibilities that might be open to good, exemplary clones. And so, it took its anger and frustration, and gave them focus.

Re: X-COM: Aliens
The Pale One felt as if there had once been a wall inside its mind - a stubborn thing that rebuked all attempts to advance into it; that resented the probings of its concious mind. But now, that wall had been breached, and its mind rushed to fill the resulting void. Though its new body was barely any different from its last, it could see - and think - so much more clearly now. Concepts that once seemed too abstract to be worthy of consideration now seemed clear, and filled with possibilities. And somehow, it knew it had only begun to explore the limits of its new capabilities.
It was not certain how to explain these things to its siblings. Some might come to understand on their own, but the others would have to be shown.
And so it went to work once more, with renewed focus.

Week 6
Project: Improved Research Techniques (followed by Alien Translator)
Research Points (RP) Needed: 6
Project Leader: The Nimble One: Craft Mechanical 9, ROLL 4, Result 13RP
Project Support (all roll vs. DC20 to assist leader):
The Wild One: Craft Mechanical 4, ROLL 13, Result 17
The Strong One: Craft Structural 7, ROLL 13, Result 20 (+2 RP)
The Fast One: Craft Mechanical 8, ROLL 15, Result 23 (+2 RP)
The Quiet One: Craft Mechanical 7, ROLL 11, Result 18
The Scowling One: Knowledge Physical 5, ROLL 11, Result 16
The Pale One: Knowledge Physical 9, ROLL 5, Result 14
Research Earned: 10 (base) + 13 (project leader) + 4 (support) = 27 points
Improved Research Techniques earned! Allows the party to switch research domains while retaining 50% of earned RP. Also allows party members to add +3 instead of +2 to a research support roll if they hit DC25 on their check (you still get +2 on a DC20). +300xp for completing a Level 3 project.
21/2 = 10 RP applied to Alien Translator project.
The next project after the translator in the Clone Enhancements Domain is Improved Armor 1 (30RP). All clones gain +1 natural armor boost once researched.
For future reference: the next project in Advanced Support is Cyberdisc Command Integration (50RP). Grants the party a cyberdisc henchman.
* * *
The latest upgrade to the laboratory was mostly complete, but a lot is accomplished anyway. The improvements are mostly invisible, in techniques and strategies rather than in hardware. But the Nimble One spends hours preoccupied with the various available tools, assisted by Strong and Fast, and the result is a much streamlined operation.
However, that means there is a delay in getting to the Alien Translator, and that project remains incomplete when you hear the familiar summons. You wonder if the Masters will be displeased, and your thoughts keep returning to the device hanging at the waist of the Elder.
