Not much happens in the lab this week. The advanced grenades are added to the tool replicator's schematics, and soon a regular supply is coming from the manufacturing bays in the core of the ship. Their sheer destructive force is not equal to your elerium grenades, but you suspect that with time their tactical usefulness will become clear.

The clones work at the next project, but their thoughts are distracted. The new revelations could mean that there is much more at stake for them than just the research program, or even the war against the humans.

When the mental chime announcing the next mission comes, it is with some trepidation that they head to the briefing chamber.

Strong sat huddled over a work bench seemingly lost in concentration as he poured over the disassembled rifle. Though he didn't say anything to his fellow clones, the others could feel the agitation rolling off him like a wave.

//Research 5. I may post more later, but I can't think of much else to add right now.

Looking more than a little furtive, Nimble urged Pale in the direction of the lab and over to the controller, activating it.

"I find medical files." the clone explained. "In them it say the Masters are worried our implants don't give access to what we saying..." it tapped the side of its head in another oddly human gesture "... when we communicate any more. They used to be able to know all we think that way, but can't now. They worried. I think that why we tested like that. Because Masters worried."

The floater quickly called up a schematic of their communication translation implants. "Need you to look at how this work with our head. I can make it just give out chatter, like we doing ordinary things, but need you make it work without head so that chatter get sent to the Masters instead of what we really thinking about."

"It make them think system is working and they not get worried and do test, and may be do Protocol 66." There was a small surge of anxiety Nimble had to take a second to quell. "But if you don't do it properly then they know we try doing that and do Protocol 66 anyway..." The clone tailed off for a moment with further anxiety then spoke again.

"But Masters already worried," it continued, "and if stay worried they do Protocol 66 anyway. Soon if not now. I not want to .. to .. to not come back one time. So I think we do this and hope do it properly. I mess and try and make better gun thingy and look like we working on that together so they not see what you do."

Nimble paused again, fighting a real flush. "You do it right, Pale, please?" It gave Pale a pat on the back, in another mimicry of human behaviour, and then turned to begin messing with the adaptations they had made for the pistol, attempting to modify them alongside Strong.

((Craft Mechanical at 11 for me. For god's sake don't roll a 1 ... err get a one rolled for you, Shad!))

Strong grunted as Nimble came over to its workstation. "You think Pale do good? I not want Protocol 66. I go down fighting. If Elder use stupid device again, I take and use it on him. I tired of Masters's fickle punishments. I start fighting back if nothing changes."
