Daud lay awake at night, warring with regret and feelings of self preservation. He was still trying to process what had happened, and what he'd agreed to.

A resistance cell. Fighting ADVENT. When he had been sure he was about to die, he regretted he'd never grabbed a gun and went to war, but now that he was out of there... well, he was asking himself if he really could. The rational side of him was telling him that his doubts about himself didn't matter because what ELSE could he do now? He couldn't go back home and curl into a ball and pretend it never happened.

But god, he really wanted to curl into a ball and pretend it never happened.

Things were bad under ADVENT, but could he really fight? He barely saw at the time, but the images of the dead at the facility they held them were sticking in his mind now. That could happen to him. They told them that combat is not what they really did, that their weapons were ineffective against ADVENT anyway, but who knows what could happen?

And these people. Half of them were nuts... before he could get much further into that thought, exhaustion overtook him and sleep came.

Dinnertime had been tense. Half the folk around the table'd been scared, and the other half, real sceptical. But Victor hadn't been able not to smile. Mugging like an idiot with a bowl of the lentil-slop. He knew it; but he didn't make an effort to hide it. And as everyone tried to sleep - and in some cases, failed - he found he couldn't rest either. How could he? He was intended to die in a cell barely a day ago. Now here he was. Another chance to live. It may have been a dreary cave, but it was at least a place he could say what he thought.

He hadn't said much. Still getting a sense for the audience. But it had felt good. They saw bare rock walls, mystery food cans, old beds. But it wasn't ever what it was. It was what it could be. Half a dozen people could become a score; a score could become a hundred. A hundred could take a nation. It was all about the message... all about the message.

His thoughts swam with half-remembered words of history until he finally fell asleep.

He killed a man. After all his declarations and reminders that they should avoid having to fight or get anyone killed, it had been Daud himself that took a life.

He'd always wanted to fight, but taking a man's life had shaken him. With the exception of those in ADVENT armor, It wasn't men he'd hated and burned to fight all his life, it was aliens. The man Daud had killed was just a security guard that wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place.

He remembered how the man had turned the corner and been as surprised as the rest of them. How he'd charged through them like a linebacker to get to the alarm, through kicks and punches and clubs assailing him, the team's desperation to stop him increasing with every step- but they couldn't hold him! And he made it! Only, in panic, Daud had pulled the knife he swore he wouldn't use and lunged for him.

Daud hadn't meant to kill the man, he didn't even have time to think. He didn't actually remember the knife sinking into security guard, but when he came to his senses, Bo, the doctor, was kneeling over the body, checking for life and finding none. Daud could only stare, stupefaction rapidly giving way to horror at what he'd done.

No one seemed to blame him though. They actually seemed grateful that he had stabbed the man at the last second. Old Man Henderson said it was war, and that it was necessary. But Daud still felt like he'd done something terrible.

The mission was pretty straightforward; they were to break into a radio station and and make a special short broadcast. There was only supposed to be one security guard and he was considered unarmed. Naturally, things did not go so smoothly.

First, they couldn't even get the car started. he had popped the hood and tried to figure out the problem but had been stumped. Fortunately, one of the newbies was able to get the thing going.

At the station, they found the door was alarmed. With a bit of study Stanley had been able to figure out and disable the security.

The expected security guard was promptly dealt with, knocked out and securely tied up. However, a second unexpected guard popped up and he maid of beeline for the alarm button. In the ensuing chaos he was stabbed and died. Not exactly what had been planned but it was a war.

They discovered there was a security lock on the transmitter. A bit of a search turned up a key card and Stanley was able to use that to bypass the security.

With that the broadcast was made and everyone hurried out to pile back into their vehicle. The drive back was uneventful and the mission was considered a success.

JD was still trying to make sense of all this. Where and when he was from. Who had kept him alive? ADVENT? Who experimented on him and why? Was that ADVENT too? How did he end up in a cell with the others? In time perhaps he would find answers to these questions.

They were sent out to infiltrate a station and broadcast a message. JD got himself a gun and a security guard uniform. They broke in, disposed of the guards did the job and returned to the base. They gave a verbal report to management. JD was glad there was no paperwork to be done. He hated paperwork or at least that's what he felt...

Daud wasn't doing well. Victor could tell. The others seemed alright. The doc was fussing. The thief was evasive and standoffish. The soldier was griff and the amnesiac was still confused. But Daud had changed.

He could see it clear as day, catching sight of the man, sitting on the corner of his cot, head in his hands. He wandered in quiet, sat down. There was silence. He waited... and broke it. "Hey... hey. Want to say thanks. If he'd, uh... gotten to the alarm, could have been any of us died. And we wouldn't have been able to do what we did."

No reply No reaction. Victor took a breath. "And, wherever this is goin', I don't think you'll be the only one of us to end up doing it."

He looked around. Others were coming in, he could hear it. He nodded, and said one last thing. "I know it don't seem like much. Getting the word out. It ain't - we touched a lot of people. These little things. You'll be surprised."
