Jess couldn't stop shaking for hours after the mission. Not out of terror or anxiety or anything like that, but out of sheer excitement.

It felt so good to be doing something. She'd grown used to hiding; scrounging; just surviving. Having an actual mission, though - a cause - that was new, and it was exhilarating.

Sure, things hadn't gone perfectly. Their car was a piece of junk, and they'd spent way too much time arguing. Probably would have been better if that one guy hadn't died, but whatever - it would have been way, way worse if he'd actually rung the alarm. People died all the time. That was something Jess had gotten used to pretty early on in life. She was just glad it wasn't one of her people dying this time around.

Point was, she couldn't wait to do this again. Her mother wouldn't have been happy, her putting herself at risk like this and all, and... that, maybe, was the thought that made her slow down a little. It wasn't enough to dampen her enthusiasm, though.

There was no going back to the way things were. No point in even trying, now that she was all alone.

"First do no harm."

A phrase often trotted out as part of the Hypocratic Oath while it wasn't, and either way in her eyes a being complete fallacy. How the hell could you do the job if you never did harm? Okay so the harm you did was the lesser of two evils, removing a limb was better than allowing necrosis to set in, but still - by normal standards it was harm. Any doctor had to make decisions about saving lives most would find unpalatable, but ending it deliberately? That was something different altogether, and something that obviously didn't sit well with Daud.

So she kept an eye on him but a consoling bedside manner had never been her strong point, and she breathed a sigh of relief when Victor took up the role. A reputation as a cantankerous, iron-hearted bitch had been well earned perhaps but she truly wasn't sure what she'd have done in the same position. The only thing she was certain of was she was likely to find out before too long.

((Just a reminder the UK is now on UTC +1 and back in synch for the usual US/EU time differences this week. Also a note that I will mess next week's session for another engagement but not actually 'away from home' so readily able to set the server up.))

It had been too long. Or at least that's what he felt as he idly walked around their small- cozy resistance base. Old Man Henderson was enjoying himself, but they definitely were not well trained soldiers, though that in itself perhaps contributed to the style of fun he was having. It was just the actual mission part where that greenness was less fun and more dangerous, but they got through it.

He'd need to continue keeping an eye on Daud though, the boy was not reacting well to his first kill. He'd seen it happen a few times in the war, some men just broke afterwards, they couldn't handle emotional strain or something. Sure, some of them were just bullshitting, but a few actually did break and it wasn't anything pretty. Old Man Henderson would have to make sure that didn't happen to the boy. That Magazine he lifted off the knocked out guard might raise the boy's spirits briefly, but he was sure he could think of more.

But to perhaps the most important matter... seriously, they didn't know who Batman was!? Oh, what a world. But you know, we already have a Bruce (of sorts), and the Girly has a lot of spunk, but then even if he did it wasn't like anyone else but the Doc would get any of the super hero themed jokes. Well, maybe the Boss Lady. She definitely looked old enough, but he was smart enough not to comment on that at least.

"What a world..."

((Also! I will not be able to make it to the April 20th Game.))

Another job “well” done.

This time around the squad took the car to an underground parking just below some rich dude apartment building. They took out a few guards and retrieved stuff from the house. JD/Bruce was not so happy that they could not managed to open one of the door. Who knows what treasures they would have found behind?

Jd was starting to remember basic things like burger, hot dog, pizza, pagers/beepers, cellular phones, walkmans, portable computers. He could remember some cars brands and some cameras. He could remember some movies too but other than that it was still “blackout”.

The place was pretty bad. It was a bit like Mad Max but without the cool car. People were eating rats and stuff from old cans. JD almost wished that he was dead or in a coma. Would things get better or was this the new standard of living for the people of Earth? Was he on the wrong side?

Another day, another mission carried out without too much complication. This time, it was a burglary. The intel they'd received had been faulty. There was only supposed to be one security guard, but there were two. In addition, Stanley had been unable to open one locked case. One of the new recruits had set it off a security device and got fairly badly injured. Maybe they would be more careful next time. Anyway, they had managed to pick up a few things of value and the boss was pleased.

During the down time, Stanley decided to checked out their car and see if it needed any repairs. there was no point in having any unnecessary surprises on the next mission.

//Repair skill is 10.

Bo was distracted. The pills she had were something she had never seen before, though the little A on them was perhaps a give away as to their origin. Sooner or later she was likely to need a guinea pig to try them out but it was probably a good idea to see what they might do before then. You know, just in case.

So ignoring the rest of what was going on around her she went to work as best she could, though with the contents of the basic medical kit and whatever chemical tests she could put together.

((A reminder that I am out this session but can put the server up with no trouble. Rolled at the end of last seesion but the time I am out can be time Bo spends trying to identify what the little pills do!))

Another day another skin of their teeth, harrowing run in with some security guards. They died, most of them. He hadn't been the one to make the kills this time, but Daud still hated it. This was supposed to be a supply run, but they still had to drop bodies. And they might have been caught on tape this time. Who knows what ADVENT would do with that.

Would every task go like this? If so, it was only a matter of time until one of the team didn't get to come back. They weren't fighters. At least, Daud certainly wasn't. But he really didn't want to be the one that didn't come back. Maybe if he could just stick it out a little longer, he'd begin to feel like he could actually handle the stuff they were doing. Get some experience... and not shake like a child after.
