The following is an initial archieve to the forum posts on NWC. Note this is a text backup so the actual artwork is not in the thread atm. I'll see about getting copies of that here though too.

[Reposted in own thread to avoid burial]

We need a logo for our con, so if any of you artsy types out there have any ideas, please send me your submissions. I'll pass these around to the other members of the NWCon 4 organizing committee and we'll vote on which one to use. I reckon we need to finalize on this by the end of the month so we can use it in adverts starting from July. Thus, a deadline of June 23 for submissions, so that the committee has a week to review and discuss which one to use.

As with earlier con's, we can set up some logoed merchandise and use the profits for door prizes with any balance being sent on to NWC to aid with ongoing operating costs.

Thoughts or comments on this are welcome

Hmm, one week with no responses....

You do realize if no one steps up, then we'll be falling back on Karvon's Klipart Kreations to fill the void

i think what we need first is a theme. then we can design a logo around that.

so... anyone got an idea for a theme?

Here are links to past con pages at Bioware, you can see the logos there. A dragon was prominent in each of the past four. Thus, that would seem like a good tradition to continue perhaps?

In one email, one mentioned the idea of a shield meet. I think a more simplified and easily grasped title might be...

NWCon 4: The Gathering.

Thoughts, comments, tomatoes?

whelp... gathering is good... if not a bit generic (no offense, Karvon).

i think it is important to push NWN2 just as much as NWN. I also think it's important to highlight D20 Modern as well as all the other total conversions. With the most of them being Sci-Fi/Modern, perhaps a past meets future kinda theme.

I'm not very good with slogans tho, so I may have to leave that up to others. Once we get a theme, however, i can try to put something together. I have Adobe CS3 and a smidge of skill.

So... past meets future?

How about a Grand Theft Auto 4 theme with substitutions for fantasy/d20M elements. I've seen photoshops of this sort done at Penny Arcade and elsewhere; I'm sure someone could whip something up.

Classic advertising technique: steal what's currently popular.

EDIT: this is what I'm talking about.

I like LB's concept, you could have some bit of art for each of the genre's maybe clustered around a dragon head in the center with the theme splashed across/above/below and NWCon 4 emblazed somewhere.

Some random thoughts for other themes...

The Gathering of Times.

Portals in Time.

Gateways

It's not immediately evident even on a second look that the big red thing is a "4".

I also think we can do better than "The Gathering of Times," but I can't come up with a more catchy title at the moment.

nice work, Rosie. you are by far a better artist than i.

i love the dragon. very cool. tho, i agree with LB that the red 4 is not obvious enough. i think the design should also be easily translated into banner sizes.

i'm not good with catch phrases, so i'm no help there. i'll try to brainstorm something to contribute.

For a banner sized design, why not just tack Rosie's, or a similar square-sized design, on the left side of the banner we have at the top of NWC homepage, then resize a little to make it look right?

Just a thought

i meant for sending to the vault or bioware, etc.

normally, banner ads are a specific size (like 27x760 or some such). certainly, rosie's "ad" can be resized. i only mention it for her to keep in mind while designing.

Oh... and how 'bout

"Days of Future Past"

for a catch phrase?

The picture looks nice, Rosie, but that four needs to be redesigned.

As for mottos:

I had another one, but I forgot it. I'll post it later should I remember it.

What about:
NWcon4: (at) the doorstep of/to New Worlds
or
NWcon4: at the threshold of New Worlds
or
At the threshold of infinity

Maybe DB's 'Future Past' idea can also be mixed with above mentioned concept.

First of all, sweet dragon.

Second, I think the "4" is less important than the rest of the message. The people you want to bring in are going to be largely unconcerned with whether or not this is NWCon 1, 4, 18, pi, or what have you. While it needs to be on there for the old-timers you might draw back into the fold, I don't think it needs to be a focal point of the graphic. Unless you want to show continuity (the "We did it before and we can do it again" message), but even then, I think the number of the con is less important than the occurrence of the con.

Thirdly, your catchphrase should be:

NWCon 4:
All Neverwinter Nights,
All the time.
(Or about three days.)

Hmm...no, I seem to have wildly overestimated my ability to come up with catchphrases. But I stand by the first two points.

I know that NWN2 is in the minority here, but it's a shame that the upcoming expansion isn't coming out around the time of the Con. Then, we could play off of that name (Storm of [something]) like we have in the past, as there are probably more NEW players discovering NWN2 than NWN. Mask of the Betrayer is out, but I can't think of any play on those words.

Great ideas everyone, there hasn't been a NWCon in a long time and after losing my last logo for the cancelled last Con, I thought I'd take a small stab at this.

A couple of things, I predominantly made it dark colors but the colors can be tweaked. Also, I might cut some of the emboss effects as I'm not a fan of the effect all that much myself but wanted to test the waters a bit with it. I also went and built around Mulu's slogan and Lion's Vault logo as inspiration although I believe anything could fit into logo. And lastly, I was going to put the 4 within the sphere image but it looked too much like the Fantastic 4 logo which I was trying to avoid but the slight similarities remain.

I don't have a lot of time to re-do stuff but if you like the logo, I can expand upon it.

Been gone for a while, good to see a lot of the veterans here still lurking around and playing good ol' NWN

Thanks guys, glad you like it.

Theres no reason why we can't use both. My submission is more of a logo that can be simplified but it doesn't count as an ad that we send to various sites.

Heck if the organizers like my logo, I'll gladly send the Photoshop file to others so they can incorporate it into their own ads.

Time is limited these days for me but I'm glad to help with the logo as long as its needed.

EDIT: Here's another variation on the logo that I'm liking a bit more. This time with the logo's within.

my two cents on the banner, Tarrdius.

i too like the first one better. i really like the bevel and emboss effects on the type. gives it a bit more of a "crafted" feel to it.

also, i would take the space motif in the circle and use it as the background for the whole thing. then make the type white or silver. also, brighten up the sword to show against the dark space background. i find this works very well to add visual punch.

i do like the incorporation of the game logos... makes it look more official.

i have photoshop CS3. i can also touch up if you don't have the time.

top notch work, tho bud.

Rosie's offering could be used to as an alternate Vault ad, because it's pretty sweet as well.

Great work folks!

Keep the ideas flowing and I agree we can certainly have more than one piece of artwork we use in adverts and burn on products for the con.

Once again, I'd like us to finalize on the art by the end of June so we can start using it from the start of July, hence we have another 10 days or so to tweak.

Guess I can safely retire Karvon's Klipart Kreation

It would perhaps be a good idea to start publicizing this event now. Who knows, it might even bring some old timers back to help out with some events.

May I humbly (and in awe of your GD skills, very sweet) suggest that perhaps you should submit it to the vault now?

Tarr, very sweet. Any chance you could do a B&W version too to spare my precious color toner toner cartridge?

Thanks to both Tarridus and Rosietreats for their work on art for the coming con, as well as to those who provided feedback and suggestions. I believe we can use all three pieces for promoting the con. Perhaps use each item as a banner ad for one month between now and the con?

I'd like to see us have some merchandise available using these similar to what was done for the last con. Does anyone here have access to the current store? If so, we could just have them add products to the existing line. If not, I guess we could easily set up a new one.
