I'd be willing to lend a hand with this.

1. I could probably host and DM a couple of events.

2. I'd be willing to help run some seminars to help prospective builders, players or DMs. Hopefully, we could do this with some panels of experienced folk from here on NWC.

3. Happy to lend what aid I can to other tasks as needed

At past NWCons there have been a few elements you may want to consider:

* An in-game social room, sort of like a mini-PW, open throughout.
* An open IRC chatroom.
* Hosted chat events. At one Con I remember a chat where several Bioware staff members were in attendance. I participated in another that provided suggestions for DMing a NWC-style game that went pretty well; I seem to recall Fleet Street and DMFI being involved. These will definitely need to be moderated, with a few individuals empowered to post questions, while the audience listens in. If you go this way, you will want to have a chat coordinator, someone familiar with the ins and outs of IRC. I'll say now that this requirement disqualifies me right off.
* Prizes for participation. I still use my Bioware steel mug and hat.
* A master schedule of games. We don't currently have the ability to modify the site, but something could definitely be set up as a stickied forum thread.
* Off-site advertising. Seems you've already covered a lot of this in the other thread.

I've been running covert ops on this for a while now, but I suppose a new NWCON might be a good place as any to take off the curtains:

Additionally, it might be a good idea to coincide the con with the release of Patch 1.69 and CEP 2.1 from Barry and his fine CEP crew?

PC took the words out of my mouth. We might even get Bioware involvement by timing with the 1.69 release. The old Cons were as much about game information as playing.

Though CEP 2.1 has already been released.

There will also be a CEP 2.2, but I don't know the timing on that.

Maybe we could set the date and ask BIOWARE to include some notice of the event in their 1.69 release pages/info?

We need to have time to plan and execute this well, so we can't just rush in on short notice.

I'll be glad to offer my server/gameworld as an event or what ever is needed. 66.232.100.90

i will be glad to host the Welcome Inn and run an event or two, but i'm not gonna gonna head the entire weekend. and until a clear leader comes forward to organize and motivate, it's all just a bunch of talk.

You know, holding a con with a buggy release of CEP 2.1 probably isn't the best option. I was planning on rebuilding an old mod using 1.69, CEP 2.1 and Worms tilesets to showcase new content, but it sounds like some shakedown time is in order, which is good since we aren't even close to ready anyway.

Technically all we really need for a Con is an ad at the vault, a forum post on the Bioware forums, and a dozen or so folk committed to running some open content. I'm certainly willing to run some open content, and a forum post at Bioware is easy enough. Welcome Inn hosting is nice to, as would be some Q&A's on new content. Maybe Barry would be willing to hang out at the Welcome Inn and answer some questions about CEP 2.1 and 2.2 at a set time.

Basically, just because Cons of the past had a ton of stuff in them, doesn't mean we can't run one with less. We're smaller now. Every NWN community is. Let's wait and see how 1.69 goes on release, and then set a date.

We may also want to consider something like the Welcome Inn for NWN2, and inviting PW's to use it as a recruitment time.

The Con is an online gaming convention. We promoted it to the proper media outlets, held lots of open games, had IRC chat rooms with NWN bigwigs, and awarded prizes to best games, DMs and players. It was held over a weekend and was generally very successful. It has been a while since the last one was held.

Mulu, while I don't disagree with you that this particular Con doesn't need to be as grandiose as they have been in the past, I do believe that some form of project management, if you will, needs to be done. You have already suggested something that goes beyond running a few games, but Barry hanging around the Welcome Inn to answer questions is iffy at best unless it's at a set time that is advertised. Someone needs to contact Barry to arrange a schedule, possibly post an outline of what is to be discussed, etc.

I would also go as far as to say that this Con, if it happens, needs to be just as much about NWN2 as it does NWN. Please do not derail this thread with another discussion of why one is better than the other, or why you don't want to play NWN2, but I believe it is important to not limit ourselves in this regard. Also, I would venture a guess to say that Rob would be happy to lend some face time to a NWN2 chat/discussion.

HOWEVER, if the community here just wants to hold a few open games, the Welcome Inn and maybe some open PW games, then that is what the community decides.

edit: I agree that we should see what 1.69 holds and give time for the mod folks to fix any bugs that arise from that patch. Then we can discuss a date.

This thread has some info about NWCon3:

http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/f ... /id/16985/

I agree with Mulu in that we should start small; the event can always grow. I'd say the minimum framework is a time period for folks to run games (Fri-Sun works), a master schedule that is frequently updated (stickied in the General forum), a few "events" to make it more than just a few games being run (I'd shoot for maybe 2-3 IRC chats, and something like a Bioware/Obsidian chat OR a game with a developer playing, something like that). Door prizes are a good idea, allowing people to donate to the cause even if they are unable to give time (at past Cons the prizes were distributed randomly to event organizers and players, that seemed to work).

And I think that the event absolutely does need an organizer. A committee can get things done, but there needs to be someone with responsibility to ensure that things are followed through. I regret that my schedule keeps me from volunteering to head the whole thing, but I would be happy to support the event by running games (maybe a few X-COM one-shots) or participating in a chat event, and would be willing to kick in some prizes as well (perhaps some 4th edition D&D manuals, or something similar). In the past I participated in a chat about DMing skills that went pretty well. I think a number of DM101 runs with a veteran DM showing others the ropes should also be a priority.

If people wanted to set this up in an organized way I'd say a committee of the following should be set up:

* Organizer (chair of event committee, responsible for seeing that everything gets done)
* Public relations/advertising (post info at the Vault, other NWN1/2 sites, Bioware forums, etc... be creative). Getting an artist on board is helpful, as a logo helps capture the event and make it more impressive.
* Prize coordinator (collects prizes/commitments from NWCers, contacts Bioware/Obsidian to see if they have any swag lying around, runs mechanism for selecting recipients, responsible for seeing that prizes are sent from those donating to winners). Even if this is just a few NWCon T-shirts this makes a big difference, in my opinion.
* Games coordinator (responsible for keeping the scheduling thread current with the list of games)
* Chat coordinator (responsible for setting up and organizing the chat events)
* Welcome Inn coordinator (responsible for hosting the PW that weekend, maybe setting up mini-events there)

There might be some overlap there, but those are the main things I can think of. I'd say that once the committee is selected then each coordinator should have his/her own thread to discuss progress/ideas.

Isn't Welcome Inn a NWN module?

If so (despite my well documented loathing for all things NWN2) I feel the need to point out in the name of inclusion that NWN2 players won't be able to log in to Welcome Inn. This means that we either need to set up and staff an NWN2 server with a similar theme also, or we need to find some alternative for the chat lounge. Maybe we should look at moving the "virtual lounge" off the game server and finding a venue that players of both platforms can mingle in?

I'd much rather have one IRC chat room with 4 people in it than two game servers with 2 each.

There would need to be separate NWN and NWN2 servers, if the organizers go with the live server approach. If not, IRC seems appropriate.

DM 101 for NWN2 should be out by the end of the month, with a little luck. I'd probably also be able to host at least one NWN2 session. (I could also host NWN games, but there already seem to be plenty of folks willing to do that.)

The irc chat goes without saying, plus there are tools like skype that might be of use.

Having two lounges for each camp sounds like a good idea if you ask me. Events, even duplicate events (Bard competition, storytelling, Arena Gladiator..ECT), on both 1 and 2 varieties would not exclude either camp from the fun.

Maybe Carlo One has something we could use or he could host.

From past experience, in particular NWCon (one), I say the IRC approach for a meeting chat room is the way to go. And then keep the hosted "Welcome Inn"-ish NWN/NWN2 modules as extra. Running the IRC channel should be easy (I'm sure the current operators of the IRC will help, if you can get hold of them).

If anyone needs advice on the bigger events via IRC, I have participated as IRC staff on a (the?) Bioware one in the past. I probably can't attend any proposed ones in this upcoming NWCon (Australia time zone) but at least I can provide pointers to anyone who will. Frankly, with some IRC experience, or even without, it should be easy to at help out.

Happy gaming, and I'll run one game on the con.

Also, getting the devs to play in the games would be fun. I had Jay from Bioware play in my desert adventure on NWCon one (although he had poor attendence and missed half of it ...it was fun for everyone involved anyway). I'm not sure which channels to go through to get anyone over though.

From PW experience I've often thought that players tend to not be around in the summer as much, perhaps out enjoying other pursuits quite sensibly, and campaign games are often hit by folk taking summer holidays (vacations). I'm not sure if others would agree, but it might be best to wait until the slacking off begins.

Well, given various times and schedules mentioned, and wanting to see as many being able to join as possible, I'd suggest the last weekend of Sept, say from Friday the 26th thru Sun the 28th. That give us four months to sort things out and publicize the event - and, hopefully, 1.69 will be out by then as well

My two more cents,

As I've seen no conflicting feedback, can we finalize on the last weekend of Sept as the date for NWC3?

The con would run from Fri Sept 26 thru Sun Sept 28.

As there's been no negative feedback for the proposed dates of Sept. 26 - 28, I'm setting that as the time for our next NWCon.

Reviewing various threads on Bioware boards and elsewhere it looks like this will be NWCon 4.

Since no one else has stepped forward thus far, I guess I'm taking the role of organizer/chairperson by default. If anyone wishes to stage a coup and seize this office, I will go peacefully into the night

I'm willing to oversee/promote the game schedule as well, though I think we can rely on the NWC Game Calender to register and monitor events.

In fact, I'd like to see all events registered on the game calender so folks can, at a glance, see all the things offered over the weekend and plan which events they wish to join. Sign-ups will also give event organizers an idea of how many may turn up.

We still need folks to step up and take some of the other recommended positions on the steering committee for the con. I'll be contacting some of you regarding this, as I'm neither qualified, no desire, to do everything myself

Positions open:

* PR Director
* Chat Coordinator
* Prize Coordinator

I'll continue to update the NWCon summary as more people commit to helping out.

Thanks to those who've already volunteered to participate and look forward to seeing more join in to make the con a success.

Looks good Karvon.

I'll be running a series of challenge modules geared toward the four main character classes. Each about 2 hours long. The Friday before I can help at the Welcome Inn.

1.Fighters Challenge (Saturday)
2.Clerics Challenge (Saturday)
3.Wizards Challenge (Sunday)
4.Rogues Challenge (Sunday)

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but all games scheduled for the NWCON should have “NWCON4” in their titles.

Example: NWCON 4 Presents, Lions’ “Fighter Challenge”

Very good point LoH,

All events should be prefaced...

NWCon 4:

It might be wise to add a secondary category such as...

NWCon 4 - Game - Event title.

Secondary titles could cover things like...

Game
Chat
Presentation
Contest

We need a logo for our con, so if any of you artsy types out there have any ideas, please send me your submissions. I'll pass these around to the other members of the NWCon 4 organizing committee and we'll vote on which one to use. I reckon we need to finalize on this by the end of the month so we can use it in adverts starting from July. Thus, a deadline of June 23 for submissions, so that the committee has a week to review and discuss which one to use.

As with earlier con's, we can set up some logoed merchandise and use the profits for door prizes with any balance being sent on to NWC to aid with ongoing operating costs.

Thoughts or comments on this are welcome

I think that the NWC calendar only lets you schedule events two weeks out, so you may still want to have a master event calendar in a stickied thread.

I will use my Moderator powers to help organize the forum any way I can, of course. I'm also willing to contribute toward prizes (maybe a 4th edition Player's Handbook, or similar merchandise?).

I would recommend starting sub threads for focused areas of discussion relevant to the Con. Don't forget to be as clear as possible when selecting thread titles, to avoid confusion.

NWCon 4 will run from Fri, Sept 26 thru Sun, Sept 28.

The current summary of what's been posted thus far or what I've gleaned from other threads

Suggested staff [Lazybones]

* Organizer - Karvon (chair of event committee, responsible for seeing that everything gets done)
* Games coordinator - Karvon (responsible for keeping the scheduling thread current with the list of games)
* Chat coordinator - Dira (responsible for setting up and organizing the chat events)
* Welcome Inn coordinator (responsible for hosting the PW that weekend, maybe setting up mini-events there)

Events

The Welcome Inn - online chat/event area
Open IRC chat channel
Door prizes
Seminars via IRC and/or mod.
* DMFI DM Training
* Designer/company
* General help Q&A
* Builders
* Topical presentations/discussions
Gaming
* Arena/Gladiatorial
* Bard/Storytelling competition
* One shot adventures
* Open PW events
* Team events

List of folks willing to DM one or more events with other specific offers - as I understood posting (apologies if I misunderstood or overlooked other offers made thus far):

DM

Carlo One - NWN2
Dane Bramage - host the Welcome Inn, artwork
dira - asst. DMFI seminar
GM_ODA - PW events
Grinning Fool NWN2, chat assist
Jfoxtail
karvon - DMFI seminars, Ork Raider Contest
Katarina Dragonstar - Sojourney PW DM Seminars
Khaveen - Gallow Bird PW events
Lazybones - Seminars
LIONofHUME - Challenge series, Welcome Inn staff (Fri)
Mulu
Poetic Colossus
Purple Puppy
TOJTS - IRC advice
vanya mia - Gladiatorial event
Von Stalhein - Seminars

CoDM

Urk

Other

tsunami282 DMFI project seminar
Rosietreats CEP mall

If you'd be willing to help out, please post with specifics, In particular, it would be helpful to fill the suggested staff positions ASAP so these specific functions could start being addressed.

For those willing to DM/host events, please post such further responses in the NWCon 4 DM thread found in the DM forum, as that'll help sort things out a little more for us.

I'll update this post every 3-4 days to reflect additional offers/clarifications made.

This request should be presented to the site admins (i.e. Gilaun and Rizzen); mods don't have this power.

When moderating forums, I find it much more useful to be able to update a top forum post for reference when information keeps changing (especially if it's a big list), rather than having readers search through pages of updates.

If there's resistance for some reason to adding moderators here, then never mind.

No opposition at all, in fact I suggested some names to Gilaun about a month back. I think I'm the only active one left.

I'll sticky the top-level post and any others that seem especially relevant. It's just that it takes about 3 months for a thread to drop off page 1 (maybe shorter now that there's more activity).

just finished a recording session with the fathers of the NWNPodcast learning some extra recording ropes of the show While Im acidently high on coffee as strong as ghetto crack to kill Elvis on the throne. was set to be a mute listener then they surprised me to comment on NWCon. I discribed it well I believe and pluged if anyone is interested in helping to come here.

but we all need a good offical discription for NWCon 4 to advertise.

I would like to plan out a interview for the NWNPodcast show with a couple of yall to help promote NWCon4! I promise not to act crazy with yall during recording! lol but im positive it will be fun!

there is plenty of the folks that worked with me from my DMFI classes doing DM training sessions im proud of for NWCon4.

with the Podcast, DMFI and my voice acting roles for NWN2 im unsure what I can do and have the time for to be bigger part of NWCon other then doing some NWCon4 coverage for the show. If anyone noticed I havnt had much time to run my own adventure campaigns for awhile with players here.

being the recent DM of the year for NWC I know it might be expected for me to arange something big in game for folks. again I was surprised with the award and know of more deserving DMs here for it. my adventures are long and make peoples butt sore! but I will step to the plate for any good suggestions.

PR wise I have a couple more contacts I could send this way but I know would be more impressed with some well written Offical discription for NWCon4.

Heh, well, atm, there are only two of us organizing things and we're still at a very formative stage, so we've not sat down and hammered out an official description yet.

Some of what's underway already....

We've posted initial announcements on Bioware NWN1 and NWN2 boards - though the latter seems to have been deleted(?) - and made a community announcement to the effect NWCon 4 is under construction here at NWC and soliciting advice, help and events from those who might be interested.

We've contacted past staff of NWCons and got some useful feedback from some which I've followed up one.

We've sent invites to a number of community groups inviting them to take part and gotten some initial positive response.

We've started a number of dedicated threads here on NWC to organize games, chats and come up with a logo with some response already.

We've made initial contact with both Bioware and Obsidian about participating, but haven't really gotten much reaction from either thus far.

I've posted each person who's shown interest thus far in running an event with a request for a general description of the event(s) they are planning so we can begin to fill out a rough schedule. Some have responded already.

Looks like we'll be doing a podcast promoting the upcoming con and NWC, and some promo's been done already via podcast.

We still need folks willing to step up and help organize....

* PR/Marketing person willing to focus on handling promo work and contacting groups and companies.

* Artists for logo and a web page - We've someone volunteering a server we can use for such.

* Prize coordinator, though maybe this could be folded in with marketing?

* Coordinators for events and activities in the social mod - Welcome Inn, both NWN1 and NWN2.

My thinking atm is to see how things develop thru the end of June and then formulate a description of what we've got shaping up at that point.

Where we stand....

I've been updating the stickied status posts in the general and DM forums, so you should look at those from time-to-time.

Games

We've 8 events fully scheduled on the NWC calender thus far - and even a few sign ups already.

We've 26 events tentatively scheduled as far as down to the day.

We've a number of folks planning to run events but not fixed on day/time.

The ratio of NWN1 to NWN2 looks like 3:1 atm, so we could use more NWN2 events.

Chats/Seminars

We've 7 chats/seminars at least partially organized.

A number of other groups have been contacted and are discussing chat/seminar options.

Jfoxtail's offered to contact a number of cc groups and individuals he's familiar with.

Promotion

We've 3 logos finished and they are being used in banners at several places to promo the con.

Skunkeen's taken the lead on this and is contacting various groups and sites.

We're planning a couple of podcasts to promo the con.

I've posted update notices in both NWN1 and NWN2 official forums hosted by Bioware.

Thanks again to everyone who's pitched in thus far, it's only gonna be as good as y'all make it

I would like it if there was one. working now on writing up a possable replacement for this page. But I have a feeling its unlikely but wont hurt to ask. Going to PM the admins now right after this and give it one week for a response.

http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/g ... howcon.htm

I mentioned the idea to my lady of me paying for such a NWCon site and she said she would put me out in the dawg house if I did!

I already make payments on a above average hosting service and I can host files for this to be linked around.

a Couple more things I hope to see get sorted out is a good starting balence of NWN1&2 sessions. A good promotion/recruitment to the community. Try to get donations or sponsorship, A video to show newbies how to use the site. Then send out ads to gameing news sites. And maybe myself or someone could help with the NWCon scheduled events to dress them up with images

As I said we are planning on putting up the logo on our main site and maybe on our forums. If somehow we had a website or a link we could redirect to from the logo that would give attendees a great deal of information.

We would be happy to help out anyway we can. Currently trying to hash out what ALFA wants to do in regards to DM events, volunteer work, etc. Ill try and get more Alfans over here to discuss things with NWC.

Sincerely,

ok this is what I have for a slight change to the NWCon page. gonna shrink one of the Logos for this too

NWCon4 2008 Dates: Friday-Saturday-Sunday Sep 26, 27, 28

What is it?: NWCon4 the fourth online convention for Neverwinter Nights 1&2 players. The con includes in-game and chat-based seminars where experts will share their NWN knowledge on DMing, gaming, building, and more. And, of course, there are games. Lots of Games! New players and experts alike are welcome to join in and share the fun.

IRC Seminars: Join an IRC (chat-based) seminar to learn about NWN and NWC. All IRC panels will be scheduled using the NWC scheduling system. Check the right side of this screen for IRC panels. Important: You do not have to sign up for IRC panels to attend.
irc.nwn2source.net or chat.neverwinterconnections.com

In-Game Seminars: Join an in-game classroom to learn about numerous aspects of Neverwinter Nights 1&2 from expert panels. In-game seminars are great, because you actually get to try stuff on the fly and see how it works in-game. Check the right side of this screen for scheduled seminars. Important: You do have to sign-up for the in-game seminars and demonstrations due to the limitations of the engine.

NWCon Encourages Open Gaming: Although we have arranged for the excellent seminars and panels, we do not dictate the gaming schedule for NWCon. As a DM or host, we encourage you to schedule as many games as you want during NWCon. Check the right side of this screen for games that have already been scheduled. Remember, sleep is for the dead!

NWCon Game Scheduling Rules: 1. All NWCon games must be scheduled thru the Neverwinter Connections games scheduler. 2. All NWCon games must be Open or Application. Invite-only games are not not compatable with the purpose of NWCon. 3. Games for NWCon must have the word "NWCon" at the start of the game name. Example: "NWCon: Return to Parthenon" This naming convention allows us to show all NWCon games here on our web site. We also feed it to NWVault and other places. 4. All NWCon games should be "rated PG" unless they are clearly labeled as "mature subject matter".

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a central meeting place to talk about NWCon or NWN in general?
A: Many NWC regulars chat via Internet Relay Chat (IRC). You can get into NWC’s main IRC channel by going use the Java client on this page. A NWC member, Steck, has even created a custom IRC client that logs you right into Neverwinter Connections’s main chat channel. If you’re going to chat at all, we highly recommend you download it here. The #nwcon channel will be the main channel for discussions on NWCon, and #nwconnections is the main Neverwinter Connections channel.

There will also be the NWConvention Center, a persistent in-game environment running during NWCon 2.5. It will feature NWCon-related information such as schedules, NWCon staff and panelist bios, and will be a showcase for some community-created content. We also plan to have a few scheduled events in the NWConvention Center, such as a Bardic Competition that was so popular during the last NWCon.

Q: I want to get involved and play some cool games, but I am totally confused about all of this. What do I do?
A: The New Players Forum has lots of good Q&A already posted, and helpful site members reply very quickly to new posts. Try the NWC FAQ for basic information about Neverwinter Connections in general. If you know how to get onto NWC’s IRC channel (see above), hop on and start asking questions!

Q: Great! So how do I sign up for something during NWCon?
A: All registrations for panels, games, and in-game seminars will be conducted through Neverwinter Connections (NWC). The full list of these is on the right-hand side of this screen. If you are not a member of the NWC site, you will need to become a member (free) in order to register for games.

Q: What is the difference between an Open game, an Application game, and a Invite-only game?
A: "Open" games are first-come, first-served. "Application" games require you to respond to a question from the game host, typically about what type of PC you plan to play. The host then chooses which applications to accept. (Please be sure to read the game information to ensure that your application fits the game.) Invite-only games require the host to send invites to select players. This is often used in pre-existing campaigns here at NWC. In the spirit of open gaming, NWCon will only use Open and Application games.

Q: Do you still need DMs?
A: Yes, we need DMs for many game types. There is detailed information above about or scheduling requirements, as well as our Featured (or suggested) modules to run. If you have questions, please post here.

Q: How do I schedule a game?
A: First, you must have a NWC account. Next, make sure that your time zone is set correctly in your NWC profile. Since NWCon will happen right after the clocks “spring forward” for Summertime, please be sure to check this! Then go to this page and follow the directions. Be sure to begin the name of your game with "NWCon" or your game will not display on the NWCon schedule! All NWCon games must be Application or Open.

Q: I want to join the Panel Discussions, but I don’t know what IRC is?
A: IRC stands for "Internet Relay Chat," an internet chat service. To use IRC, get an IRC client software ( http://www.mirc.com, http://www.xchat.org, http://www.ircle.com for Mac) and follow the log-on instructions included in the panel sign-up. A NWC member has even created a custom client that logs you right into Neverwinter Connections’s main chat channel. Download it here.
Q: Is this only DMed events?
A: no , builders , scripters are welcome to showcase their talents and works also. so as a player you get the chance to experience many new awesome things to the NWN1&2 game.

Do you guys have a final NWNCon4 Design done? The one we were going to use says draft on it. It was the white one with the NWNCon4 on it. My webmaster was ready to hang it up with he noticed that. I told him to hold off till I found out some info. ( is this the final logo?)

Also is that page you linked above going to be the main information page? If so then I will have him link to it from the logo. If its updated in the future at least we are linked to the right spot.

thank you!

I already asked the artist yesterday for a image without the draft watermark. I cannot see it except for on the moon, but know that wouldnt be good enough , if the artist doesnt respond in a week going to go with the other one same width but longer hight. This is a rough draft to see what we have to work with. any suggestions or input keep it coming.

Counting the number of viewings of our posting in the forums at Bioware is somewhat interesting thus far. We've had about 1250 viewings in NWN2 folder vs around 600 in NWN1 folder. While that doesn't necessarily translate into levels of interest, I think it does indicate we should make an effort to have as many NWN2 events as we can manage.

We do have a number of NWN2 games scheduled and some folks have made tentative plans to run, but we do need to work on developing some NWN2 chats and seminars as well. As I'm not familiar at all with the NWN2 community, I'd appreciate it if some of you who did would give some suggestions for people or groups we could invite to join the con.

Adding even more game sessions would be good too of course, so all of you NWN2 DMs, or even those who've done MP before, give some thought to running or hosting a session or two over the weekend; the more the merrier

Alrighty! Got the link sent to our webmaster and he should get the logo with link up on our main website within a day.

We currently have a very good Open Application Server DM wanting to run a few DM sessions on our OAS2 for the Con.

Im in talks with Sandermann about hosting our NWN1 Waterdeep server for the Con. Waterdeep will probably be live by the time the Con happens, but we can try and put up a copy of the server not connected to our player vault up for that weekend. Im hoping to get ALFA Dms to step up to run events all weekend long for the server.

Working on more volunteers. Ive also spoken to Exodus about interest in the Con and will touch base with them again. I also made a post about the Con over at Avlis2, but didnt get much interest at all from there. I hope they will attend as they have some very good builders and coders there. I have some ideas and might PM some folks over there personally.

Is someone handling prizes? I would be willing to purchase a few items from the store and ship them to whoever is coordinating the prizes.

I do think that prizes should be "door prizes", i.e. given out in a fair random drawing, rather than "played in the most games" or somesuch.

I believe in the past we held separate drawings for DMs and players who participated in events. I still use my Bioware coffee mug.

We don't have a prize coordinater atm

My thinking was to have, at minimum, a random drawing each and award one door prize to a player and one to a dm from those participating in gaming events. We could perhaps do the same with chats, awarding one to a panelist and another to an audience member.

I planning to offer a prize to the winner of the contest I'm hosting.

If we have people/companies willing to sponsor prizes, we could expand the number of door prizes presented. I believe Skunkeen may be talking with some companies about prizes, but I could be wrong.

this week going to update the http://www.NWCon4.info page with this.

NWCon 4 Dates: Friday-Saturday-Sunday Sep 26, 27, 28

What is it?: NWCon4 is the fourth online convention for Neverwinter Nights players, now including Neverwinter Nights 2.

NWCon Encourages Open Gaming: Although we have arranged for the excellent seminars and panels, we do not dictate the gaming schedule for NWCon4. As a DM or host, we encourage you to schedule as many games as you want during NWCon4. Check the right side of this screen for games that have already been scheduled. Remember, sleep is for the dead!

NWCon Game Scheduling Rules: 1. All NWCon4 games must be scheduled thru the Neverwinter Connections games scheduler. 2. All NWCon4 games must be Open or Application. Invite-only games are not not compatable with the purpose of NWCon. 3. Please use the following format for the name of your event: NWCon 4 - (version) - (type) - (event title). So a sample entry: NWCon 4 - NWN1 - Contest - The Pillaging of Waycrest. This naming convention allows us to show all NWCon4 games here on our web site. We also feed it to NWVault and other places. 4. All NWCon games should be "rated PG" unless they are clearly labeled as "mature subject matter".

Im just a bum submitting updates to em.

Waiting now for the admins to get to the update page. I do not have direct access to the site.

After that we should get some game listings scheduled ASAP. Without them listed on the page alot of folks ive been talking too sound unsure that these are taking place. I know its still a bit ahead into the future from not for alot of us to know our schedule. But it would greatly help even if our eventers needed to make last minute changes when the date comes.

Pluged this in the next Podcast show better then before, goint to be released tommarow.

I know that there are a lot of DMs out there that are very good at that... I am not one of them. Tho, I would love to learn.

oh... and i forgot...

i'm gonna run a "Capture the Flag" tournament over the weekend. i will be running LB's Team Challenge, The Pyramid for 8th lvl characters.

Three teams of three will compete to extract a magic staff from the center of the pyramid before their opponents do. PvP will be expected

The winners of each event (there will be three) will compete on Sunday in a final that will crown the champs (and get a prize)!

So... the plan would be for one running of it on Friday night, two runnings of it on Saturday and one (the final) Sunday night. Is that too much? I don't want to dominate the Con, but I thought it would be good fun and a nice way to have a bit of a tournament feel to it.

I would like people's opinion on the frequency. I'm not sure I can get the interest either. each running will take 12 people.

So... if everyone thinks its a good idea, then i'm gonna post it.

Thanks for stepping up DB and taking this job on.

I'd recommend touching bases with Skunkeen, and perhaps Jfoxtail, as I know they've both been doing some PR and may have already done some leg work with some of the companies.

Also, I like your idea for the tourney over the weekend of the con. I see no problem with running multiple sessions, though you may want to check and see what other events are scheduled to try to spread out the time slots used so folks have more options of stuff to join.

Thanks again for you support,

Tons of folks willing or were willing to take part in the con to do a Scheduled session. Everyone I chat with seems to feel its too far in advance. I have been thinking of possably opening a can of worms and maybe do a tutorial on how to dress up your Scheduled Event over NWConnections. or get with everyone that has agreed to run a session and do the HTML code for them to just copy and paste into the discription.

Folks I meet through the Podcast are often cool on the idea majority of Vault builders are more likely to show up to play insted of hosting.

Ive yet to chat with more Custom Content groups and Scripters that I would like to. The Summer seems to consume alot of folks.

I do fear if NWConnections gets hacked again during the con it will hurt us all greatly. more so if there is a alteraition of the session titles like before. I believe we need to plan out backup page. There might be the possability that folks may not be able to sign up for events at NWConnections. this would leave the host unknowingly to who will be showing up for their sessions less we get someone to attempt to back up who joins up for what.

During the attacks the http://www.NWCon4.info page stayed pretty stable. I do have a extra URL http://www.NWCCon4.info that could be linked to a back up page from the page here.

As we get closer to the Con Date im going to message many RPG sites about the NWCon to possably add to their news. There are are quite a few more NWN1&2 folks I would like to contact about the NWCon4

I've backuped our various NWCon 4 threads to the forums at

http://nwncampaigns.com/

I will be cross-posting this and further posting to forums there, as some folks are shying away from NWC atm due to hacker and trojan related issues.

I've got a number of positive and tentatively positive responses via bioware forums for a scriptors chat session thanks to leads from Axe Murderer.

I'll post those and a couple others I've fleshed out a little later this weekend.

It would be helpful if the site admin's could get the info page hooked up to the calender so that events prefaced with NWCon 4 would show up there.

It would be prudent to have a backup listing of events on a mirror site, should hacker problems persist.

Between now and the end of the month, I'd like to start working on sorting out potential time slots for some of the chats we've got organized after a fashion already. If we could get those participating to give say 3 time slots that would work for them, we can see about finding some common ground.

Those of you who're thinking about hosting games should start finalizing as well and posting your events to the game schedule. It'd be better if we had a more concrete schedule of events in place a month in advance of the con.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to chip in.

Thanks again to all who're helping out. This is a community effort, so will only be as good as you all make it

we do have a tough dilemma to sort out. that I believe is hard for any of us to say. cus we love NWConnections. and NWCon is sapose to be a tridtion to this site....

do we promote the NWCon4 at NWN Campaigns or here?

If we do both things are going to be a mess worse then it already is thanks to the attacks.

HOWEVER, the forum being down for a week is an issue. i know that the admins of this place have real jobs and are doing what they can to keep NWC alive and functioning. I commend them for their efforts, but there has been little or no activity here since the last time the site was hacked. i'm afraid the damage has already been done. if we don't see traffic pick up here with forum activity and such, then i'm just not sure.

off topic reply... i think most people still use this site, and we are retooling NWNCampaigns to be just a database of active campaigns as opposed to scheduling. then again... people are free to do what they want. i know that a lot of people that have shown their support for NWNCampaigns appreciate having an admin/owner that is active and responsive. current ownership for NWC is more reactive than active. we just wish it wasn't so.

now... i'm sure LB will come in here and tell us that we need to keep the thread on topic, so i'll try to steer it back.

Karvon, you have not included my tournament in your updates. i already have them scheduled with an NWCon 4 header in the game title. Do you need me to post the games here to get on the schedule? however, i have only one person sign up, so i'm not sure if i will keep all the games.

more to come

Atari-Europe Contact made wanting to know what they can do to help. Going to introduce Dane Bramage to them on sponsorship and prizes and give more info with our contest and events.

Next episode of the Podcast has show notes on the con being here at NWConnections and the website is stable. not giving credit to what the problems was. Just talked with Nvinka-Jay about making a NWCon4 episode a priority. he is hyped about doing so. Gonna clear it with the rest of the Podcast team to help produce a devoted episode of something good to go along with the http://www.NWCon4.info page soon. we have a massive load of upcoming AME Golden Dragon Awards interviews coming up. I bet they wont mind we cut into those. Going to let them know about our event here to see if their winners and Nominees would like to take part. would be good to showcase the best of the best our community has.

I seen Dane Bramage has been kicking arse with some PR work around the community too. Awesome!

I agree with the Twinbrother above. But we really need folks to schedule something that is taking part! Ill update the page here at the site if there is any changes in scheduling made!

For the diehards, right now isn't too early, but for the average player I'd guess it isn't even on the radar yet. I'm going to be away on my honeymoon until just before the Con, but I'm going to see if I can find time before I leave to retool one of my campaign modules into a one-shot. If not, then I might take a look at something like Vendalus' mod, and hopefully run that. But I fall into the category mentioned above of people who won't be able to commit to participate until closer to the date because of my circumstances.

I'm the admin for nwncampaigns.com, but I don't feel like I ever left NWC. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the original plan for nwncampaigns was to provide an easy-to-read list of campaigns held here at NWC (both NWN and NWN2), and that's what we're working on now. I saw the need for a central list way back when I was combing through the forums looking for available players for my campaign, and also saw players asking about available campaigns. The scheduling stuff was and is just a stopgap (and a deficient one at that) thrown together when NWC was offline. I certainly hope people continue to use NWC as the scheduler. Of course, for the nwncampaign list to work as a source of traffic for here, I am hoping people will list their campaigns there.

Anyway, glad to see the traffic picking up here today.

I forgot to ask-
Now that Rizzen is at least a bit more involved, does anyone have his ear enough to make a request? It would be nice if there were an easy way to tag a game as a NWCon4 game when you're scheduling it, and then have those games read from the database and displayed on their own page. That would keep it current at all times.

I think that is the biggest drawback right now to the Con being a massive success. I've been here for years, and I'm confused about where to be looking for Con games. I can only imagine what the new players must feel.

As posted initially in the DM/Organizers thread, please use the following format in your event tile so we have a semi-standardized listing of events for con.

NWCon 4 - (version) - (type) - (event title)

Suggested main types:

Contest - Players competing for top score.
Game - typical 1 shot adventure.
PW Event - session set in PW.
Seminar - 1+ main speakers; 0-15 min Q&A
Chat - 1+ main speakers; 15 min+ Q&A

So a sample entry...

NWCon 4 - NWN1 - Contest - The Pillaging of Waycrest.

Thanks

One problem with that is the actual event title doesn't show up on the front page when the game name is that long. It'll read "NWCon 4 - NWN2 - De[truncated]" or the like. Just an observation.

Hmm yes, I see what you mean Carlos.

I guess we could try...

NWC4-Ver-Title-Type to cut down on truncation so...

NWC4-NWN1-The Pillaging of Waycrest-Contest

I'd like to keep the version at the front so folks at a glance tell the main division of events.

I've edited my first event title to this format and it all is displayed in the game calender.

Other thoughts views?

I think we should also plan a series of press releases for the vault (and beyond, possibly?). Rather than one announcement, "NWNCon is coming" we should follow it up with mini announcements. Any suggestions on that front?

the Admins here must be really busy to update the http://www.NWCon4.info page localy with the current scheduled events Thanks to DM URK for nicely setting up the script for us to use.

I have been thinking creating a outside Back up copy page that would have a more contant update I myself can put in with. I do not have acess to the site here its self but I do with the NWCon4 URL. and I could set it up to where no one would realy be able to tell if they were at the same website or not.

Planning to run another two one shot adventures that should be up shortly, one for Friday and one for Sunday, I've been away for two weeks and just need to square the times with other DM.

On another note, I'm in two campaigns that use D20 1.3 under 1.69 with CEP 2.1 in place, by the way, both of which seem fine. Not that you can get at much of the new content of course. I'd recommend that players use the Grey Sector mod for PC creation without putting 2.1 in place, though. Oh .... and don't use rideable horses at the moment.

NWN Podcast Open Mic Events
Sep 26th: 11:00PM CST
Event 1: Roleplaying NWN, Come Voice your Characters
In this session you can come talk about role playing, share some exciting stories, get in character and give voice to your favorite character.

Sep 27th: 9:00AM CST
Event 2: NWN2 Gaming
In this session we open up the mic for you to come tell about your favorite NWN2 or Expansion Gaming stories, talk about your favorite game, or your favorite mod or PW.

Sep 28th: 2:00PM CST
Event 3: NWN1 Gaming
In this session we open up the mic for you to come tell about your favorite NWN1 or Expansion Gaming stories, talk about your favorite game, or your favorite mod or PW.

Can I schedule these using NWC Scheduler? If we can, I will provide full instuctions on how to join in each schedule.

I'm also up for doing a demo session for DMs as the design goals for my latest project tie back into some of the stuff we did back with DM 101 and 102. I'll see if there's a time where there's not a lot of DM activities so people will be able to see it.
