Background for campaign restart (Ches 25, 1373 DR)

After having been attacked by the Fire Knives assassins' guild, the group tracked them back to Castle Cormaeril in Westgate and cleaned them out of their home, although without finding the apparent leader, Tagreth Cormaeril. With the castle's fate uncertain and a lot of bodies lying around, the party decided that getting out of town for a time would be a good idea. Darrow had the bright (?) idea of starting a brewery to perk up the economy of the party's now quasi-owned (?) former barony of Hallton, so they accompanied Darrow's wagonload of brewery supplies to the village of Glees and from there on to Tallwell, the central village of the barony, fighting off a band of owlbears in the forest along the way.

As soon as they got to the outskirts of the village, they were informed by farmer Garens Winnfall about a bloody incident at the old baronial manor, which was later confirmed by Guard Captain Calen. The captain related how two of his men posted as guards outside the manor doors had been discovered brutally murdered by their relief that morning, then shortly afterwards they saw an invisible hand writing a bloody scrawl inside the manor, the words saying that the former (deceased) Baron Hallton had returned to claim it. Calen's men refused to return to the manor, being scared of what they believed was a vengeful ghost.

The party - Aerikoth, Darrow, Dermot and Shanni - has discussed several initial theories about what occurred at the mansion, ranging from a true haunting to an assassin having escaped through the Castle Cormaeril basement portal to the former barony's lands. It is now late afternoon of Ches 25.

Meanwhile, Rahnee Roaringhorn has not been seen since Ches 22, when she was spirited by her brother Madrigal out of the (Watch's) Tower in Westgate, prior to the party's raid on Castle Cormaeril.

Edit: actually the late afternoon/evening of Ches 24. Also worth mentioning that the party has agreed to recover the bodies of the two guards from the old Hallton mansion.
