Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread

Leoniadas did not like cold places or hot places and nearly died several times in both. He'd been tripped up on several occasions when he normally would've easily avoided such. Yes, the gods had not smiled on him at all in this mission, perhaps they were trying to tell him to go back to shepherding? He was still broke as well; life had to get better soon.

"The next town? The next city, I think! It'll be Argos!" Polytropos nods, smiling. "We might be a bit late, but no other village will have sent champions with weapons blessed by the gods and the hearts to match. You'll see! It'll all be worth it."

After all the complaining, Eleni no longer felt quite so annoyed at having missed out on the treks to the Place of Extreme Heat and the Place of Flash-Freezing. In her estimation, It just seemed an awful waste to have whole different planes of existences dedicated to such lethal monotony. Primal forces of creation, she mused, probably didn't have a whole lot going in the way of imagination - which was probably why the gods eventually brought forth humans and other interesting creatures, thus securing more reliable sources of entertainment.
She certainly hoped they were entertained, after all that. That one particularly nasty bolt of lightning had put her out of commission prematurely and made an absolute mess of her hair, but she was sure the suffering of her companions had more than made up the difference. And her prolonged twitching must have been good for some giggles, at least.
"The gods don't bother themselves much with mundane affairs, I suppose," she said to Kataramene, suppressing a yawn. "Mighty weapons and tools and blessings and knowledge, sure - but why should they bother with trifles like a nice pot of stew? At any rate, I'm sure our mighty hunters can catch something to eat if prodded. And if not, we can always turn to begging!"

Telemachus was very please with their success in the forge and the powerful new weapons that resulted. Less so in the half-day spent trudging backwards and forwards between the two old lovebirds. "Did we really have to spend so much time playing cupid for these two?" he remarked. " I hope Aphrodite appreciates this."

Damian looked around the city and scratched his arms. This place made his skin itch. It was too big, too crowded, and most of the people were too rude. He felt uncomfortable, exposed, and he couldn't mind his tongue. He had already nearly offended Kat while trying to give her a compliment and almost struck a stuck-up couple for having a slave. He was glad that he was able to mind his hands, if not his tongue, around them because he had no desire to see the inside of that arena. For all he knew, the city guard could consider it sport to pit trouble makers against lions and the like. He stopped scratching and followed the others into the temple of Hera, wondering what price Her priestess would demand for returning Tel to his mortal shell.
Inside the temple, as the others were discussing the price with the priestess, he tapped Kat on the shoulder and gestured away from the group. As they walked away, he leaned towards her and whispered: "Kat, I apologize for my comments at the sculptor's place. I in no way meant to imply that Eleni was greater than you. My comments were meant to convey the opposite and were only made to bring you a bit of cheer because the sculptor was admiring her and ignoring you. In the future I shall endeavor to mind my tongue better, but I cannot promise it because this city scrambles my brain and my tongue goes walking of its own accord. The sooner we're finished, the better I feel. Until then, can you forgive me?" He held out a hand to her. "Friends?"

Sorry, but I couldn't resist after seeing this because it reminded me of Damian's comment about eating that rich couple's babies.
Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread
She'd told him. It had been obvious; a phantom trying to lead them on a merry chase through a dark tunnel. And yet here they were, begging for Tel's life.
It was funny. Up until now, the dangers of what they'd been doing had seemed like an abstract thing. She'd been aware of it, in some distant way, but the notion she might actually lose a friend had only now entered her mind.
I was a notion she firmly rejected. The price didn't matter; she wasn't going to let that happen, if only for the chance to slap Tel in the face and tell him what a giant moron he'd been.

Could it have been prevented?
Katamarene had been the last off the mark for once. She'd not seen the ghostly form run, but had chased after Polytropos on seeing him run and joined the fray with him to tackle the false ghost he had pinned down. She'd not realised there were more until the two of them had caught up with the others, and only after she had entered combat that they were practiced fighters too. Though she'd tried to pull Telemachus up when he fell, she hadn't been able to pull his big form clear.
Eyes occasionally flicking to the where the others waited with the body of their friend, Kataramene listened to Damian's words and extended her own long-fingered hand to accept his graciously. "Of course we are," she replied, quietly. "Think no more of it." She fastened her gaze on the nearby tableau, her expression darkening and becoming thoughtful. "All things considered, it really doesn't seem important any more."

Leonaidas eyed the pale corpse and shook his head. Warriors always strove to be heroic and ended up like that more often than not. So far the city hadn't been any better than the village or the countryside. He'd gotten jumped by one of those ghostly thugs and taken a nasty wound, but at least he'd fared better than most of the others. It hadn't been very profitable either. Leonaidas frowned as he fingered his nearly empty coin purse. Perhaps he would have to take a break and see if he could scare up some coins with his growing collection of stories and songs in some of the local ale houses. Certainly couldn't be any less profitable than what he'd slogged thru so far.
