Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #2

Post by Gulfwulf » Sat May 04, 2013 12:32 am

Another boat ride, Damian thought. Hopefully this trip will go better than previous ones. I also hope we're not too late to help Thrace out. Leaving it for last could very well be the death of us. Ah well, nothing to do about that now; we'll see what the situation is when we land.

Leo was glad the group was heading out of town. He was pretty sure their opponents from the games would not simply let bygones be bygones; they would certainly seek revenge for the death of their Macedonian. He wondered what would become of their treacherous house slave; he doubted the city fathers would look too kindly on her. Hopefully the replacement would be cuter. He found a sunny spot on the deck and pulled out his small harp. It's been awhile since he'd played it, he was certainly out of practice. Well, he had the time, so he'd make use of it brushing up on the songs he knew and perhaps composing a new one or two based on the group's ventures.

Eleni wondered how long she would be away from Argos, this time. Whatever dangers waited in the wilderness of Thrace, she suspected they would be less predictable than those she and her friends had faced thus far - not least because they had chosen to leave it to face its great crisis without aid for so long. And that was to say nothing of the turbulent seas that were to take them there.

But that last part was not something she had a great deal of power over. Poseidon had been relatively kind to them thus far; all she could really do was hope his temperament had not changed.

The ship didn't leave a lot of room to move around, and perhaps it was the nervous attitude of the crew but the cramped quarters seemed to make Katamarene more on edge than normal soon after the voyage had become. Company in the activity was always welcomed, but she preferred to remain on deck as much as possible, even in the cool of the night, finding places to continue training exercises, idle and watch the stars change over head, or more often than not watch the sea.

Although Telemachus didn't think he'd develop a taste for sailing any time soon, he was certainly becoming accustomed to sea travel. He stood at the prow of the ship and wondered what was ahead, it was said ships had disappeared in this part of the ocean. Would they encounter pirates or worse on the way to Thrace? And what of their destination he did some rough figuring, and worked out that it must have been close to two months since the first messenger from Thrace reached Argos calling for help. He wondered how much could have gone wrong in that time. Would "beastmen" whatever those were supposed to be, be any worse than cultists and restless dead? He looked forward to finding out.

A ship at sea.

After returning home victorious the heroes who did not celebrate due to some in-house drama ended on a ship heading to another adventure.

"We did well didn't we?"

Andreas was happy but the trophy seemed small compared to the men who had died in the arena.

The Gods had strange ways to handle men's destiny.

"Yeah, we did well. Feels strange, though. After all this, we're... going to war," Polytropos said, staring out over the bow. "Not sure how I feel about that, you know? Militades told those stories... not everyone comes back from war. Just hoping the Gods were pleased with our performance." He looks out at the horizon and the distant landmass, uncharacteristically grim.

"Assuming we're not all eaten by sea serpents, I s'pose," he adds a moment later.

+900xp for full-party IC posting this week.

IP is 108.207.36.224:5121
PWs are same as usual.

We'll begin en-route to Thrace aboard the oceangoing supply barge Sea Dragon. Your current mission is to travel to the Thracian capitol of Uskudama and meet with King Pharos about his beastman problem. The latest news is that the Thracians have had some setbacks, but it's a few weeks old due to the disappearance of several ships in the northern Aegean.
