Well, it looks like my ISP has decided that the session has ended there. Sorry for the glitches, I do what I can for next week!

Someone remind me at the start of next session, and I'll hand out a plot award for the successful raid.

((Might have been those causing the trouble all round, so hopefully no need for change!

Not sure if Kat got the stuff. Tried picking up the bow but we'll see.))

((Sounds good. I'd like to rest before we start the next session so I can get Aias back. Oh, the curse of having an animal companion!))

((Ugh, forgot I was going to be, and hence forgot to remind folk I'm out for two weeks. Have Kat ... going back to help at the camp, getting lost, sunbathing, doing whatever suits!))

((Aw!))

Damian watched as the captain headed back to camp. "So, now that the unpleasant business of sneaking into the beastmen's camp is over, what now?"

He was a little concerned when he first heard about these beastmen, but now he was very worried. Whatever they were, surely they weren't natural? Even if they were, they must be stopped because they had no place here. He just hoped he and the others were up for the task.

War. That was new.

It was one thing, of course, to venture into a monster-filled labyrinth to root out a wicked cult or explore dark tombs infested by the wrathful dead. But this had been something quite different. None of her earlier adventures had involved unarmed women cowering in corners while her - mate? kin? child? - lay dead on the floor. They had gone into someone's home - a home that had been stolen from its previous inhabitants with blade, tooth and claw, but a home nonetheless - and killed everyone who stood between them and their prize.

Eleni wasn't entirely sure how to feel about that.

This was war, after all.

But she had seen the enemy now, and could not bring herself to believe they were mere beasts on some great rampage. Wherever they came from; whatever their nature or however brutal their ways, she did not think they were simply yet another species of monster. But she lacked the information to think much of anything else about them - and as always, those unsolved mysteries sparked her curiosity and fed her determination.

"What now?" the sorceress said with a little smile. "Now we search for the truth. Which may or may not reside in a swamp, evidently. A nice library would be endlessly more convenient, but alas - I'm sure we will manage."

Leonaidas was pleasantly surprised how well the group had managed to pull off the raid. They'd managed to secure the lost weapons without having to face hordes of the beastmen, though they'd sure seen plenty of them around. While the victory was to be savoured, he wondered about the dangers that yet lay ahead; the beastmen were not going to simply disperse into the wilderness because of a single setback. He was also disappointed they'd not managed to find any loot of note in the sweep of the hall. The beastmen must have carried of the booty to their own lairs.

The raid on the camp had been a success, and they'd had the chance to take the measure of their enemy. Telemachus was not all that impressed by the individual beastmen. They didn't seem much stronger or tougher than a man, and their weapons seemed primitive. They fought coordinated groups though, and they had a number of shaman of some kind. He could well understand why armies of them had proven to be a problem. Hopefully they had some kind of core leadership or command structure that could be attacked. Maybe the cultists had summoned them here somehow, and could be stopped. Even with that as a best case scenario, the most they could hope for was a full retreat and the enemy army falling apart. Unless they all magically vanished into smoke, this area would probably be dealing with roving bands of beastmen bandits for years to come. Thrace would never be the same after this war.

"Did you see me out there?" Polytropos gushed. "I was great! This thing charged me, and I just... flicked my spear up, caught it right under the chin... snatched its soul in a blink. A blink, I tell you! We've done big things, but this is huge? We're going to save the whole of Thrace, friends! We're going to live forever! These barbarians'll build statues to us one day!"

The young warrior grins, seemingly glory-drunk on the prospect of the battle to come.
