Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread #2

"Hah!" Eleni laughed. "What are the chances that we would run into another - actually, I'd best not finish that sentence, lest I tempt the gods. Hm. Well, whatever it is that awaits us next, it can't possibly be more unpalatable than cleaning all the stables of - ach, there I go again. I think I will just go take a bath, while we still have the opportunity. Before I run my mouth off and inadvertently get all of us killed."
((Might not be around in time for game start tomorrow. I'll try to make it, but it's possibly I'll be a little late.))

Leonaidas spent a lot of time examining various trinkets and haggling with the merchants before finally settling on a new amulet of health. It cost him all of his dragon gold, and then some, but it would ward him from most of the more common ailments adventurous folk faced, so felt it was a good investment - certainly better than dumping it under managing an estate he would hardly ever see. He still had some coin left burning a hole in his pocket, so turned to take another look at what the merchants had on display.

"I don't know, I can face cleaning anything if it's as easy as with those stables," Katamarene remarked, idly picking over object but not actually buying anything. "It was easier than trying to catch things without killing them, particularly when the creature is beloved of a god.... dammit, I just did what you didn't." The girl sighed. "Getting properly clean, as it's the only chance we've had in weeks, seems like a good idea. Though I think I might..." she threw a quick glance at Polytropos "... go for a swim first."

"I agree, a bath is what we all need" said Andreas.
"Too bad I missed that battle with your flying lizard, I think it would have been interesting. Why did you all run away? What is that scary? We have certainly seen worse. Don't you remember the "dog-men" and their God?"
Andreas paused for a moment watching the others bargaining for valuable objects, selling some, buying others as if trinkets could change one man's fate.
"Are you not hungry? I'm getting hungry. I hope we still have a cask of good wine."

"Maybe there'll be a fine lake to swim in by the hew villages! Maybe there'll be food," Polytropos said, clearly enthusiastic at the thought of travelling there. "All this work fighting dragons and hydrae and annoying the Gods on Olympus is all very well, but it loses the edge of it when we know someone else will be taking the credit in the end. That's not the way to be a Hero! Now we'll get to see something we might be remembered for, and that's what this is all about."

Leonaidas wasn't much into birds, unless they were cooked in some way. These monstrosities they were hunting certainly weren't game birds. Their metal feathers seemed to deflect most of his arrows with little damage, but the warriors seemed able to hack them down when drawn to close quarters by the rattle. He wondered how long the dilapidated rattle would last, would it keep working long enough for them to clear this beasts from the hills?

Eleni had to admit, hunting for oversized poultry was not precisely her area of expertise. Dagger-feathered or no. Idly, she wondered when she would finally have the time to pour over those notes from the Immortal King's lair, half-considering how the manor baths might work as a scrying pool. She swiftly discarded the notion when she realized her friends would probably be quite upset with her.
"This is the... sixth labor, correct?" she asked, only just keeping herself from sighing. "Only half of the way there. I'm sure His Highness is presently thinking up ways to make the last four really count."

Damian shrugged. "I haven't been keeping track. Then again, I was...indisposed during the first one. I'm sure his Highness will think of suitable onerous tasks for us in the future." He grinned wickedly, "Though I can't wait until we're done and he learns that 'Heracles' isn't who he thought he was. It will serve the bastard right to learn that not only did his plan to humiliate Heracles fail, but that his tasks were completed by 'mere mortals'. He could learn from the plight of Icarus - when one sets ones sights too high, they may find themselves falling into the sea."

"Well said Damian, the King wanted us to play with manure, catch a legendary animal perhaps to feed his dogs and each time we achieved the expected result without losing face and even reverting the situation" added Andreas.
"My guess that he will try harder to humiliate us or get us killed either way to counter his plan we will have to work like the fingers of a hand, call it the hand of Heracles if you like".
