"We have to approach this logically," Eleni said. "If there is a correct path, we will find it by process of elimination if nothing else. So long as we stay close to each other, we can only get... well. Closer. To our goal, I mean."

She paused for a moment.

"That phrasing sounded more elegant in my head, but you know what I mean."

"I'm missing my ship more than usual," Zokos says with a frown, quietly, almost to himself. "On a ship it's uncommon for crew to jump overboard and swim out of sight."

After listening to his companions, Zokos nods and responds, "I agree with Kataramene and Eleni, let's try east or west and see if we can hold a straight line better. That will eliminate another option. If that doesn't work, perhaps we could actually try to walk in a circle? If we spiral out, traveling in a larger and larger circle, we may find that some aspect of this enchantment reveals itself. It's power is subtle, it works on our minds when out of sight. I suspect if we can force it to act within our sight it will be substantially less powerful."

Turning to peer into the depths of the swamp, "It is too bad we do not have a chip log and log-line, we could pay it out behind us as we travel so we could see we are moving in a straight line. I doubt the enchantment is actually bending the ground under us, it is likely just twisting our senses."

Leonaidas listened in silence as the others discussed options. He really had no ideas on how to counter magical confusion of the senses; he would simply continue his scouting along whatever line the group decided to pursue. He wondered whether he should have given the ruins they passed through a couple of times, a more careful look - though he wasn't the only one who'd poked around there. He was getting tired of the wildlife, and wondered how long it would take to exterminate all of it.

The heroes found a tower but it was not the end of the torment. Inside, there was another maze haunted by monsters from the past. Often it was two of them venturing in one direction. Andreas managed to beat a few creatures but had to run more often than what he would have liked.

"How many items we got? How many riddles? Do we have a clue how to deal with the pillars and touch that altar without getting fried?"

Examining the collected pile of of gems, Zokos says "It looks like we have a gem to match each of the pillars, except the red one. I guess we will need to enter the doors again to find the red gem."

Looking over the many doors, he says "I did not see any pattern to where the doors sent me. It seemed either random or that we were being intentionally split up. I suspect the latter, it would certainly make sense. I will say what blessings I can to keep us together, but the magic here is strong. We should all enter at the same time to maximize the chance that some of us will be together." He recites a prayer for true navigation and winds in the direction of sail, then grimly hefts his short staff and shield.

"We've done alright so far," Polytropos opined. "I don't want to strum my own lyre, here, but I've managed to hold my own against these memories. It's just a matter of time until we find the right key, right? If this is the best that Lethe has to wear us down, just shades of the past and a confusing maze, then we're in good shape. How many dangerous memories can we possibly have left?"

"There's still Achlys," Eleni reminded him, harshly. "And one of us has already died once, today. Let's not have that happened again if we can help it, yes?"

Well, if we don't figure out the solution quickly, we're gonna get ground down by these memories, as they seem to be coming back again and again. I'm not sure it matters which door we go in and how soon we follow; it all has seemed pretty random to me so far.
