Strong hunkered over a table with a disassembled plasma rifle in front of him. "Hmm. Must be some way to increase output. Maybe use pistol as base" he muttered to himself. He messed with different components, trying to see if he could understand how they worked.

//Sorry about having to bail out during the briefing for the session tonight, I had a baby wake up and I had to calm him down and get him back to sleep, which unfortunately took a lot longer than usual and I never made it back.

The last job was a complete disaster. Trapped underground in a fake human lab. The only way out was through the elevator shaft. Fast wanted the three floaters to use their jump suits to get behind enemy lines in a surprise counter attack before using grenades or guns to turn the tide of battle.

That was also the opportunity to see how effective the jump suit was when used vertically.

The Floaters ended up facing the humans in turn offering easy targets to well trained human soldiers. With some difficulties Fast managed to activate his suit and jump to a safe location. After using the new med kit to repair his body he moved back towards a couple of humans and used a grenade hoping to finish any survivor with his gun. The grenade had little if any effect. One of the humans turned and charged Fast. The floater went down soon after...

Back at the base with a new body the clones try to see what should be done to avoid similar predicament in the future.
Later they returned to the lab to continue their research.

"We need better grenades. We make? I help."

There was much to consider. Many things that had once seemed clear and beyond question were now muddled and uncomfortable to think about, but the Pale One knew they could not be ignored. Yet it also knew now what it had long suspected.

That its development and behavior were subject to close scrutiny, and that misplaced curiosity would be rewarded with discorporation, had always been clear, of course. But now, it knew that this was not because it was expendable - quite the contrary. It knew that it was dangerous. That within it lay the potential to become something to be feared. And not just by humans.

It was not sure how to feel about this quite yet.

It communicated to its siblings that it was wisest to remain dutiful and eager. So long as the humans continued their resistance, they would be needed. And so long as their behaviour was not considered too aberrant, their utility would outweigh the risks of their continued existence.

In the mean time, there was work to be done.

I'm here and I voted for upgrading our weapons because I'll eventually be getting a blast cannon and it would be nice to be able to kill things with it. :P

Fast was happy to help making new gear. He was eager to go test the tools and report with much details how effective ad efficient the tested items might be. Yet, the idea of having some kind of heavy gun for those able to handle them sounded even better. Fast was looking forward to see bigger and better weapons...

Nimble was quiet, and a lot less animated than normal. Working away quietly in the lab painstakingly taking taking apart, reconfiguring and reassembling the new grenades they had been testing. The little floaters thoughts were guarded and only its the frequency of the glances it gave the others indicated it was anything else gut completely focused on the work.

Occasionally its eyes went to the computer base unit then to the equipment used by Pale to receive and translate human speech, before returning to it's work on the weapons. There was every sense that the clone was thinking about something very, very carefully. Something other than the work at hand.

As unheralded as it had disappeared, the Scowling One pads into the laboratory while the other clones work. It looks chastened, but furtive, as it moves to a desk to see what's being done.

"Weapons development?" It asks, neutrally and quietly, to the group. "Good... good. I am told I was absent while a mission was conducted." It picks up a few tools, helping disassemble a casing.

The Quiet One watched the work that The Strong One was doing, then chimed in, "Yes, start with the pistol improvements and apply to the larger gun." It paused for a moment then said, "But let's try to make them shoot straighter too, not just more powerful."

It worked stalked the lab, carefully observing the work of each clone, and supporting their work whenever an opportunity presented itself. At a point where a clear priority was not obvious, it silently returned to The Pale One and communicated pointedly, "I dutifully and eagerly serve the Masters. What do you think I should do next?"

I'm running a bit late for work and will post the research results when I get back this evening.
