"Hang on a minute, what about the rest of us?" Shanni frowned at the letter then looked up, inquiry evident on her face. "I mean, did they hear about all of us and just edit out a few things? Like the existence of anyone else, and the hand that any of our patrons might have played."

"I think Torm may have had a little help, and it's a bit impolite not to recognise it." She stood one hand on hip and the other gesturing to take in all of the group. "We all did our bit. I'm all for going up there, even if it is just to pull the stick out of their collective backsides."

"It's more than one and a half thousand miles to Tantras, in a straight line, Shanni. I imagine any news of us to reach there at all is pared down, to say the least. I'm sure there was no insult intended. The church of Torm goes to great lengths to respect and aid other faiths."

Hey all, I hate to do this on such short notice, especially since I was really excited to start the new campaign. But I'm feeling very ill and I don't think I'd be able to remain upright and lucid for two hours.

We'll begin Against the Giants next week. Sorry.

//That's fine with me. I was thinking of skipping today as well. My wife and I picked up our two female puppies from the vet yesterday after they were spaded and they kept waking me up whenever they shifted their cones. Get well soon and we'll cya next week.

By the light of a single candle - perched precariously atop a pile of plates she had stacked herself - Suula sat cross-legged in the empty cellar of the Timberton inn. The door had proven no challenge, and no-one had been roused by her slipping downstairs. She chanted the Prayer of Doomed Foresight under her breath, and scattered the heady-scented crushed leaves - bought specially from Mira the herbalist with no questions asked - into the brandy-soaked bronze bowl before her.

A candle, so delicately balanced... a single flame in an inn cellar could be a dreadful accident waiting to happen, should it tip or roll or catch something alight. But that was the point. The Maid of Misfortune's attention could not be attracted by caution in her name, now, could it?

Suula drew out the pin from her pocket, uncorked the sharp point... and hesitated. Her sister would go spare if she found out about this. And for that matter, the idea of pricking herself didn't appeal... what if it got infected...? But no, she had made her choices and cast her lot. This would show if she had the mettle of a true fate-twister.

With a sharp hiss, she dug the pin into her finger, and a bead of blood dripped its way into the bowl. And as it landed upon the mess of leaves and she took up the chant once more, a sudden tilt in the pile of plates - quite inexplicable, given the lack of breeze or movement in the room - tipped the candle just so, landing in amongst the liquor-soaked leaves. At once, a fire took hold in the bowl, and the mixed smells of heavy herb and burning whiskey bloomed up in Suula's face. She took a deep breath, breathing it all in, and she could feel her thoughts flutter like a flag in the wind. It was time.

She took up the deck of cards, and dealt out the Trio.

The first card came down, and the shining surface glittered in the flickering flames. "The Sun," she said to the air. "Freedom, and personal strength, and the chance to spread one's wings. Yes, this is where we are. But what lies ahead?"

A second card was laid before the first, and in the half-light, the etched stonework of the card seemed almost real. "The Tower," she said again. "Upheaval... disaster... trouble before us. I expected no less. But tell me, tell me, where will it end?"

She drew the last card with a shaking hand, bleeding finger leaving a mark upon it... and drew in a sharp breath as she looked into the tormented face of the figure upon it. "The Hanged Man... reversed," She pursed her lips. "Indecision, confusion... martyrdom... No!"

She swept out her arms in defiance, and the fire died, plunging her into darkness. "No," she whispered, holding a hand to her swimming head. "It... it need not be that way in the north. He need not die... he need not die." But in the darkness, there was only silence to answer her.
