The dragon's lair seemed anticlimactic after all the group had wadded through. Maybe it was just tired of living, but it hadn't seemed to put much of a fight. Slade only managed to get off a few arrows before the warriors hacked it to pieces. There didn't appear to be any loot either, at least none that he saw. Probably much of it had been carted off by the miners who broke into it earlier.

Back at the town, the council offered excuses and feeble promises in response to the anger of the more pious members of the team. They did pass out some hefty letters of credit that satisfied Slade at least. Some passed the letters off to charities, which seemed damned foolish to Slade. But then, he'd never a particularly benevolent person.

A message to Toric from some dwarves seemed like a likely next source of coin. Dwarves could be quite tight-fisted though when gold was at issue, so Slade wondered how profitable this next venture might actually be.

Here is the letter that you received at the end of the last session:

This parchment bears the names of everyone in your group on the outer wrap. The letter is written in the dwarven script, the runes blocky but quite legible. The letter reads:

Hey you lot

You done me a good turn, and I'm right grateful. You showed yourselfs good folk by doin for them giants.

My lord Thane Durgan is havin a spot of trouble here in the Delve. Ifn you lookin for work and more grateful dwarfs then come to Torgans Delve. When ye gets here show the guards this letter so they knows to let you in. Gods watch yer path.

A map of the region is enclosed, clearly showing the route to Torgan's Delve in the Spine of the World. It look like about a week's journey from Mirabar.

Just to clarify, Ironbeard was the dwarf you rescued from the dungeon under the hill giant steading, not the merchant you rescued in the hills east of Gateway.

The next mod is Return to Torgan's Delve. Some of you may have played this back in the day (I created the mod in 2004, and last ran it in 2008), but if you're able to separate character knowledge from player knowledge there shouldn't be any problem. The mod was originally designed for L15 characters but based on what I saw in the dragon fight I'm not worried about your capabilities. I've also added a few connections to our current campaign that should help tie things together as we move forward.

Toric stood in the Mirabar council chambers and stoically listened to the counselors discuss the dragon and the reasons for her attacks. Even though they absolved themselves of any knowledge of the killing of the dragon's eggs and the ransacking of her former home, they at least created a widows' and orphan's fund for those who lost loved ones because of the dragon's attacks and Toric knew that was the best he could hope for in this situation. After the head of the council gave out letters of credit, Toric stared at his for awhile until he saw Pius return it for the relief fund. A voice inside of his head urged him to do the same saying he was now a champion of the Dwarven way of life and must show others that, contrary to popular belief, Dwarves can feel charity towards the other races, especially in their times of need. With a sigh, Toric handed over his line of credit and hoped he wasn't making a mistake doing so.

When Pius was just a boy and old man said to him:

"You are here now among humans it is better than wandering in the wilderness. I see that you have a good heart and that you are stronger than the other boys. You will make a good knight I have no doubt of it. One day you may be riding to battle wearing a shiny plater armour. You will face numerous dangers and treacheries. Be aware of that. You may have to give your life to save others. You will know that I am certain of it. Be aware however that they will be times when you will not know what to do or think. Times when you may have to chose between the Laws of the realms and what is good. These will be the hardest choices you will ever have to make and the consequences of these choices will never leave you."

Shanni peered at the letter when Toric passed it around. "The one from the hill giants?" She shrugged and looked puzzled, sorting out the lay of a new cloak over her shoulders.

"Well the temple hasn't sent anyone to interrupt, so technically we've nothing better to do, and the delves usually have enough gold going to give us some reward." She paused. "Provided we can prise it out of their fingers of course. Still, a call for help is a call for help and if we can pick up a little something while giving it then ... I guess I'm in."

A grin reached her face for the first time since the discovery of the dragon's true story. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?"



((OOC - I don't know if anyone else is experiencing a lot of lag. I've been shutting down all processes while game is on, but in the end it's going to be down to download and upload speeds - regardless of your rig or mine - and if those your end are challenged for some reason, and my lads have decided to stream Youtube or slaughter stuff online, there's going to be problems. If everyone is having a lot or trouble then I'll see what I can do.))

Suula rolled her eyes, and looked dour. "We have plenty better to do. Like go where it's not cold. Or somewhere that isn't underground. Or somewhere not full of dwarves." She lowered her voice a bit. "Can you imagine having a whole cavern of them, huffing and smelling of drink and getting things in their beard-?"

She looked down at her hand, in which she found her set of fortune telling arcana-cards. She frowned at them, puzzled.

Shanni covered her mouth with her hand and looked at the floor, snickering then nudged her sister and looked innocent.

"Shockingly, I find myself agreeing with Suula," Nihmri said, though she did not bother looking up from the modest tome she was in the process of studying. "One Toric is more than enough, for my tastes. But then again, I suppose it's true that we've nothing better to do..."
