Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread

While the party went off in search of work, Slade spent a couple of hours wandering around the town, examining the goods on offer at various shops. He wasn't particularly interested in anything he saw and settled for restocking some basic supplies. He then bought some good wine and relaxed in the local tavern till the others showed up again. On the road again, he scouted ahead a bit and took up watch near the road, once the party settled down for the night. He heard the wraiths as they swept thru the trees on the farside of the camp, but the others had pretty much dispatched them by the time he got into bow range. He never liked dealing with the undead; he wondered who and/or what had stirred these from their slumber.

As the group settled back in for the night, Toric looked around to make sure no more wraiths were waiting to attack them. "Blasted undead! What is it with necromancers and 'em? Can't they leave the dead to rest in peace? Ain't right, I tell ye. When the Gods call ye, that be it: ye shouldna be coming back no matter the circumstances. Anyway, we'd best be getting some sleep 'fore we travel on because I doubt this is the last we'll be seeing of 'em. I'll take first watch." With that, he found a comfortable spot around the campfire and began his meditations. He hoped the rest of the night passed without incident...

Just a reminder that I am away this weekend and there is no session.

//I'm glad you mentioned that, LB, because I forgot.

"The dead are an abundant and otherwise poorly utilized resource," Nihmri said, as though thinking aloud. "It should come as no surprise that there exist those who are sufficiently depraved to put them to use. It's a small wonder it doesn't happen more often, really."
She paused for a moment, then shrugged.
"This is part of the reason why I've always been in favour of cremation, you know. Yes, some necromancers can still bind spirits to their will, but those are a bit trickier than zombies and the like. Or, ah, so I've heard, anyway. Either way, you don't have to deal with that horrid stench."

Suula half-slept uncertainly, stealing glances at the other resting bodies around the crackling fire. Somewhere out there, someone was keeping watch; she could hear the occasional scrape and rustle as they moved, investigating any odd noise around the camp. After a sudden appearance by wraiths, there wasn't any reason to take chances. But it wasn't only the only thing keeping her from slipping into
Stolen by her advocate... lack the true malice... she doesn't need your help... does this path make you content?
It was true... to a point.. she didn't wish bad things on people. Mostly. Well, on some people... but they were going to happen anyway, so it made sense to go with it. Was that proper worship? Did you have to delve into cackling and curses, as her sister kept snarking about? Could you be bad luck for bad people, and get away with it in Beshaba's eyes?
She rubbed the object in her hands - the old deck of picture-cards. She'd performed the ceremony only once, in the inn of Timberton... foreseeing a tower, a sudden change, the death of something bright and beautiful. And though she'd assumed it had meant one of the party, the blood of a silver dragon had been shed by the end of it. Had that been a glimpse of the future? Had it been caused, somehow, by her bringing the Maid's attention to events? Or had she misunderstood - had it been instructions? the old man's book hadn't been completely clear.
She closed her eyes, struggling to reach dream - and trying not to dwell on the parts of her story that she'd left out. "Am I doing this right?" she mumbled. "Show me if I'm doing this right..."

"We know we are headed the right way when people start trying to stop us. It's almost comforting at this point, it's better than a map and compass for navigating our way to the source of the trouble. We'll set out again at daybreak, I doubt we'll have any further trouble here. I'd suggest we all prepare spells and blessings for battling undead, however."

"Trust to the Lady and we'll find our way," Shanni added, "but yes Ama, you're right. I will do what I can to dispel the energy of undeath but in the meantime any protection your patrons might provide would be well spent in your own defence." She turned to Nimh. "And no, that doesn't mean turning them to our own cause, even if that's 'protecting' you from them! I see anybody doing that and you'll know about it. It's incredibly impolite."
