So, they were back in Sigil, looking for possible leads to a solution to the sleeping curse afflicting the realms. And, random monsters living there were trying to kill them; seemed like nothing had changed since the first visit. Slade was dubious about this whole undertaking, but as this wasn't his area of expertise he deferred to the priests and arcanists leading the investigation. He'd just keep an eye out and his head down, hoping to avoid any unnecessary hostiles. And, maybe if he got lucky, he might find an item or two in the bazaars that might prove useful down the road.

Althor was not eager to go back to Sigil. His friends had rescued him not knowing who they had crossed doing so and Althor preferred not to say too much about that. To be held captive in a dark cell or assassinated was a common thing in a number of planes. Being turned into a statue was less common. True, they were mages here and there able to enlarge or shrink their enemies before turning them into statues to be displayed in some private art gallery but creatures able to do so or pay to have it done where few and often feared by most mortals.

The team was back in Sigil for better or worse. They had to find a way to enter dreams. Althor had done that before but he never had the power to enter or exit a dream world by himself.

Now they had to visit The Hive controlled by the "Chaosmen". A dangerous place to venture into but what had to be done had to be done one way or the other.

I featured a gallery of petrified creatures in one of my AD&D module a while back. The visit to a dreamworld refers to the module "Echoes of Undrentide".

Toric looked around The Hive and turned to Althor. "What a dump! Place sure does live up to its name, eh Elf? I can see why ye wanted to get 'way from this place, I'm fer leaving as soon as we can as well." He eyed the half-elf. "We ain't gonna run into yer jailors 'ere, are we? They'd better hope not fer me ax is startin' ta itch fer some action, if'n ye know what I'm sayin."

"This place?" Suula sniffed the air, fingering her black-antler amulet. "This is what misfortune tastes like. The real thing, breaking lives and spirits daily until it's just accepted, treated like the master it is. The stones are slick with it. Anyone confronting us in here is playing with fire."

"Hmm.... I'm not disagreeing, but that's all the more reason to try and make it something better." Shanni looked around too and then back at the door before continuing in a low voice. "Despite what's said we need to be careful. I don't want to turn away a cry for help but we do have to be sure we don't fall foul of the same thing as Pius."

"I'd suggest we go in fast but be wary of having been misled." She glanced briefly at their informant. "Not all that glistens is gold."

"Oh, not to worry," Nihmri said, with forced cheer. "I'm sure nobody needs to be reminded of what happened the last time we stumbled into some disgusting gang's hideout in this town, right? Right. Learning about our mistakes - that's what we're all about."

The party continued in pursuit of clues in Sigil related to the sleeping curse. First, they raided the hideout of a gang in the Hive who knew where another creature called the Mechanic was holed-up. As usual, it turned into an extermination mission, as no one seemed interested in negotiating. The gang was destroyed without too much effort and the group moved on to the Mechanic's lair. This proved to be a bit more challenging, swarming with various sorts of golems and filled with assorted kinds of traps. The Mechanic himself was encountered fairly early on, but proved very uncooperative and hostile, so, naturally, we killed him. The bigger problems arose in sweeping his quarters in search for some ore. His guardians and wards were all still fully intact and the party bloodied their way thru chamber by chamber in search of the ore. In one particular chamber, most of the party got caught in some sorta stunning field and stood helplessly as golems hacked them all down. Slade had been bringing up the rear, so avoided the effects then managed to patch up Shanni enough to get her moving again. He then slipped unseen to the bodies of the fallen team members and raised or resurrected each in turn, depending on what he managed to find in their packs. The battle vs. the golems was resumed and, eventually, the party slew them all. The group found the desired ore, but it was very bulky and heavy so Slade volunteered to stow it in his bags of holding. It was a lot of ore and he wondered what they would end up doing with it exactly.
