So, what do we actually know of our next mission? Through what means are we to track this thief and the staff her or she has stolen?

"We don't very much," Shanni replied then added. "That's me saying we as in us but not Nim. How much Nim knows seems to be under discussion or something." She shrugged a little. "But it seems like we are going to be needed to mop up the mess so get your travelling tunic on!"

In the cellars of the Temple, as close to the Hour as she dared to delay, Suula waited and listened for the sounds of movement in the floors around her to fade. At the last footstep, she let out a breath, and knelt behind the barrels she'd chosen, at the wax circle she'd dribbled onto the stone.
The ingredients were all here. The circle, the bowl, the taper, the liquor, the knife, the cards and the book. The brandy, stolen from the Tymoran bar, was poured. The taper, lit from a clumsy kitchen fire moments ago, set fire to the booze-soaked bowl. The knife, the instrument of an unfortunate traveller's wounding in an inn far from here, slit her thumb and let beads of blood dribble into the fire. And from the book she spoke prayer, and with her free hand, she readied the cards.
"Maid of Misfortune, hear my words," she breathed. "The Goddess of Mists rises behind her veils. A priestess comes into her power, a long gambit falling into place. And the Prince of Lies gathers his anger. Tell me your will, Maid of Misfortune." She gathered her focus, and the power of the prayer gathered around the cards. "Let your instrument be guided. Reveal your intent."
One by one, she placed cards within the wax circle, around the flaming bowl. And as they came, she named them.
"Justice, reversed. Dishonesty... flight from accountability... consequences not of our doing."
"The Emperor, reversed. Domination... inflexibility... the need for assistance beyond one's sphere."
She frowned, as she turned the third card. "The Magician, reversed. Manipulation. Poor planning. The need to change course, redirect oneself."
Her hand trembled a little, and she made a fist, biting her lip as the fourth card was revealed. "The W-wheel of Fortune. Reversed... bad luck... events out of control... change is inevitable."
She reached for the last card, but before she could, a sudden cold draft guttered her flame, and caught the card in its breath, flipping to show a sightless, bound figure, dangling towards a dark sky. "The Hanged M-man," she stuttered, intent on completing the final part of the ritual despite the sudden chill. "R-reversed. In... indecision... the need to l-let go, before it's too late... m-martyrdom."
She let out a shuddering breath, as the fire hissed its last. A few moments passed, as she gathered her wits, and opened her eyes to contemplate the cards. Finally, she nodded, face grim and tired as she gathered up her implements one by one.
"Yes," she whispered. "I understand. It shall be done."

"I never served two masters, you silly creature," Nihmri said to Toric, during a quiet moment in-between periods of frenzied research. Her eyes were tired, but this had very little effect on her self-satisfied smile. "I joined the temple of Savras in Tashluta, yes, but I was Hers long before that. A spy in the house of knowledge. It was pretty boring, really, all in all. I like it much better here."

The group assaulted a dragon cult fortress in an mountainous region. Most of the guards were humans and not overly difficult to deal with. A few undead were interspersed and some of those were a bit more challenging. Naturally, a couple of dragons were encountered as well, but even they went down without too much trouble though Slade spent a fair time trying to keep his distance from these beasts to avoid their aura of fear. The cult had accumulated quite a hoard, though Slade wondered where and when they'd be able to dispose of it, let alone find anywhere to spend it.

Toric followed behind the party in an uncharacteristic daze. "Am I still dreaming?" he muttered to himself often. He snapped out of it as he stumbled over the body of a dead dragon. "Eh? What in the 'ells did I miss?"
