What a mess?

The group managed to get the key of the basement full of barrels of all sizes. They did not take the time to search if there was anything worth taking. They looked for a spot to dig towards the North where the temple was supposed to be. The "Digger" did a fantastic job. Not long after they entered the Temple of Lolth from under. A duergar was in a cell nearby and there was a spider in a dark cell.

The goal was to find a specific poison, grab it or some of it and escape undetected. Things did not go as planned. Somehow the spider got out and attacked them then a drow came out of nowhere and attacked. Rogha got stuck again and could not defend herself or retreat. She went down but this time she did not die...

You were saying "no need to spread the skill points". Got it.

((To be more specific I would say spreading skill points too far makes you a jack of all trades and a master of none. If you've chosen a particular class or class combination that means pouring the points you have into skills useful to that class and not worrying about those important to other classes. Trust the other players to cover all bases by doing the same.

That doesn't mean with a high Int you don't have spare to put into cross-class skills. For me sitting on skill points is like sitting on cash to have fun in your old age and then not having the time to enjoy it. Okay, you can wait to get that prestige class and then plough them into a new skill or skills that are suddenly class ones but that's aiming to be useful in the last couple of sessions, something I don't understand, and I definitely wouldn't leave class skills empty to achieve that. Not least as in the meantime it might have been useful to have that extra healing, or search, or spot, or UMD.

There'll be sessions when someone missing and therefore so are their class skills. It happens, but it's happened before and we've coped. In truth it tends to be worse when the fighter is absent as, like any good DM, LB is always open to alternative ways of handling a "skill shortage" - like he had to do this session because some locks were too tough (quite probably by design) for even a maxed L2 rogue to handle! :D ))

Darsin fingered his newly acquired gold thoughtfully. The group had broken into a drow temple and stolen some stuff which the Dero seemed pleased with. It'd had never been too clear to him what they were after or how they were going to carry it off; he'd merely followed along after the others and then waited while the drow supposedly scouted ahead. Then, there'd been a bit of noise and sudden combat. People were running and alarms were being raised, so he had retreated, healing up a couple of more battered members along the way. Not the most ideal execution, but it seemed to have worked out in the end.

The surface. Why in the Nine were they going up there? It was no place for Drow such as herself, and perhaps even the other two. Worst of all the new equipment they liberated would get destroyed instantly on the surface, so it had to be replaced. And to think she had finally found blades and armor suited for her, but Ravillion was one who could adapt. Although now she would need a new blade as she abandoned her old gear once they had found the Drow armory. But ideally the Duro Smiths could manage a blade at least.

As far as the trip to the surface goes, the others were mostly useless for information, as usual. The Red ryld was claiming to have knowledge of the surface, but as so far she had yet to prove she knew of anything aside from her own name, and even that was suspect. The cleric at least knew some fundamentals it sounded like, so perhaps they wouldn't be going in blind after all. Still, that woman will ideally do as Ravillion said and find them a replacement for that Orc ryld who fled. He had better hope they never cross paths again, in any case.

((As far as a spare rogue goes, Rav has taken some Rogue Levels and placed some skill points into some Rogue Skills, although she won't be as high as Vanya's Rogue, skillwise.))

She sat cross-legged on the bed working on the mechanism for a trap, seeking to improve the sensitivity and delivery in small ways. Tian’ith frowned intently as she clipped a delicate switch into place and stared at it for a while, pondering its effectiveness. Lifting her gaze from the device she looked towards Zau’lann where he sat equally intent in trapping elemental fire within flasks he’d obtained from who knows where, cross referencing with notes from his ever-present book. Her face softened from a frown as she watched him.

~~

Tian’ith’s lean figure marched into making far more noise than she necessary. Her opposite number in the diplomatic effort was there, as she knew he would be. He was reading and making notes in that insufferable book.

Over the months of the liaison between their Houses the routine had developed. She late, her tardiness a minor rebellion. He always there waiting, standing as she arrived, and ever concealing mild exasperation. Her apparent disinterest forcing him into frustrated coaxing. But this time was different.

This time he did not even look up.

A thought rose instantaneously in mild shock. "He hasn't noticed I'm late."

"So?” came a second thought as the moments stretched out. “You can work more efficiently without the ire and then leave."

Zau’lann closed the book in a measured manner and rose politely but with that sardonic lift of a brow as he greeted her. Another thought followed which caught her unawares. "... but I want him to notice I'm not there ..."

((If I know LB, there's not much point in taking open locks/disable traps unless you're going heavy in it. Man doesn't screw around when it comes to trap! :p One full rogue and one off-rogue is more than plenty, anyway.))

Miiq spent much of the following days trying to learn more of this 'surface' that everyone was now blabbering about. Much of what he heard, he considered patently absurd, but he did not dismiss what he learned entirely. Clearly, from the way others spoke of it, there was much in that strange place to be feared, which meant that it was a place of great power. This, he would not toss aside. If he had learned anything, it was that there is much to be gained from venturing into the unknown; from seeking out path little travelled. Only fools and slaves seek out the simplest paths.
