In spite of everyone's assurances, Jess clearly blamed herself for the mission going south. She should have been more careful; listened to her head instead of the adrenaline coursing through her veins. She could have gotten them all killed, for god's sake.

As a matter of penance, she secluded herself with the explosives that crazy old hobo had somehow managed to uncover. She was good at sorting through trash, if nothing else - had basically lived on the stuff most of her life - and while her mother had usually done her best to keep her away from anything too dangerous, that only ever stopped her for so long.

Jess wondered what her mother would say now, if she knew about the things they were doing. She'd probably scold the others for taking all these unnecessary risks; for putting her daughter in danger. Stupid. There wasn't anything like safe anymore, anyway - her mom never really got around to understanding that, or if she did she never got herself to admit it in front of Jesse. If the world was going to be hostile and terrible no matter how you chose to live your life, Jess figured it was better to at least try and do something.

Just surviving wasn't enough. It had never been enough.

((Demolitions is +7 or +8, I think? Going for the 'safe' option focusing on the non-lethal grenades.))

He'd been the only one who'd worn a mask; he'd been willing to bet his freedom on being able to slip back into the city. Besides, afew hours' walk alongside - but not close by - one of the old roads had given him a chance to clear his head. And he figured, the others could use a chance to maybe get some good news - or prepare for the worst. Nothing bred fear, like not knowing.

He wasn't stupid. He knew that the authorities would have earmarked the escapees from the local jail as troublemakers, of course, and if Jessie hadn't blanked that data, they might be in for a nasty surprise on their next trip in. But, he knew the city a bit, from his time trying to work the underground; even here, there were some places where the security stations weren't quite so comprehensive, where a man could get a drink and listen to the local news.

Hopefully, there'd be some things to pick up. How the broadcast had gone down, if at all. If there were new wanted posters up, from the robbery. The whereabouts of the few friends he might left in the city. A source of some useful stuff, maybe some radio gear; even a few handsets would be something, or some more of those tablets the Doc had insisted he ask about. And maybe, damn, another pack of smokes.

He finally saw the tall skyscrapers as he crested the last hill. Time to find out if this had been a bad idea.

((Gather Information 7 - fishing for news in the city, on the activities and wanted status of the group!

Also, if a good roll, looking for dealers/sources of tech or med components.))

Henderson thought the mission had gone quite well, though he was a bit disappointed in the group's fun dynamic. I mean, no codenames, seriously? They were all taking things way too seriously during the small periods of fun they had. They would seriously need to loosen up more, but perhaps he could help them with that with time. And they certainly were going to have lots of that together, ideally.

Session 4

+150xp for Daud, Stan, John, Jesse, Henderson, and Victor for IC posts.

Skill rolls:

Stan spends the next few days tinkering on the battered old SUV. Lacking parts he has to jury-rig a few things, but he hopes that the blasted car will keep running for at least a little while longer. (Repair Roll 6, +10 = 16)

Jesse, on the other hand, has a fairly easy time of it. The old grenades are mostly ruined, but she's able to swap out a few metal parts from Talia's stores and mix-and-match to produce two functional grenades: one smoke grenade and one tear-gas grenade. How they will work in the field is anyone's guess. (Demolitions Roll 17 +8 = 25)

Victor spends some time asking around in the city. The recent actions of a band of "terrorists" are all over the ADVENT-controlled media. There are interviews with the survivors of both "attacks" but there does not appear to be any video, or at least none is shown on the screens he watches. They have general descriptions of the perpetrators but they are all fairly vague. Security has been ratcheted up and people start looking at him intently when he starts asking questions, so he doesn't get a chance to scope out new gear before he decides to head back to the base. (Gather Information Roll 7 + 7 = 14)

The man in the forest had a bunch of animals. He had a dog and a horse or was it a cow. Nevertheless he was very reluctant to listen or believe in what we were saying. Then ADVENT showed up. They wanted to take him away “for questioning”. The group quirtly removed the ADVENT men. After that it was easier to convince the guy that we were on the same side...

Bo stood up after as minute an examination of the uneaten remains of the dead rat as she could manage with the old and scratched magnifying glass she had found. The weak solution of the powdered tablet sat to one side and she looked at it with an expression few would have seen on her face previously.

Confused wonder. How it was put together she couldn't as yet imagine. What process had been used to combine the chemicals she could not imagine. The full elemental compound she could not completely identify. The results were something she had never imagined possible. The simple test had been to examine what impact the solution would have on animal flesh. She would have been happy with it not dissolving the rat's flesh but the results were far from that.

She had watched as the dying tissue had resumed a living appearance, and actually knit together. Repeating the test several times in her uncertainty she had reconfirmed the results. The amount of healing was limited but undeniable. Bo looked at the small pack of tablets once more and spoke.

"Guys, I have something to tell you and you're not going to believe it."

Things had almost gone off without someone getting killed this time. But no, some ADVENT lackey police had shown up and forced the team to put them down. More bodies.

Ironically though, if they hadn't shown up, the team might have been forced to abandon the objective and come home empty handed. But the police had come to disappear the target, and that forced him to acknowledge he had no real choice anymore if he wanted to survive. So they got an explosives expert out of it.

And, it turned out, the target was an acquaintance of the boss lady. She hadn't mentioned it so that they wouldn't be biased about his viability as an ally. But it got Daud thinking, It was a huge coincidence that the police showed up at roughly the same time the team did. The guy had been off the grid for awhile, and suddenly two groups come to take him away on the same day? No way. Daud was going to bring it up in the morning. Maybe there was an explanation, but it was no coincidence.

In the meantime, Daud decided to do something productive and practice some simple traps. Back in the day, he sometimes had to improvise some tripwire to warn him if someone was nearby while he was working salvage that wasn't so ADVENT approved.

//craft mechanical to see improvise some simple trip wire traps if he can.

Somewhere in the den, near the sink, Victor is leaning against the wall, pretending to suck a reed like a cigarette - looking edgy, as a man without cigarettes is prone to do. He blows a cloud of imaginary smoke into the air, and shrugs at whoever's nearby.

"Seems clear Angela has a plan," he says. "Has done since before we were sprung out. I mean, we're part of it. She needs people to do something. Now she's got the man who can make what she needs for it to happen. An explosive chemist no less. Next step, probably getting him some stuff to work with."

He clicks his tongue, stubbing the 'cigarette' out on his hand. "We're going to blow something up soon. Kinda wondering what."

"He's a coward," Jesse muttered, wrist-deep in some electronic scrap she grabbed from the workshop. "Would've been happy just hiding away in his little nest the rest of his life. With his nice dog and his cow. I bet he even had milk."

She spoke of these things as if they represented some unspeakable, ungodly level of decadence. Max trotted about the workshop, going about his usual patrol route; she idly gave him a pat on the head.

"I guess he'll be useful, though. Can't do much damage with the stuff we've been working with."

"Anyway, uh, I've been trying to get some kinda basic communications thing together with this junk. Just, y'know, short-range handheld, kind of thing. Most of us moved quick enough when things went awkward back there, but it would've been handy not having to... y'know... shout at each other. Shouting's going to get us into trouble sooner or later."

((Trying to scrape together a pair of walkies or something along those lines with what we've got laying around. Craft Electronics is +8, I think. And I've got the proper tools now!))

The drive out to the farm had been rather uneventful, but things heated up pretty quickly. Hardly had the group arrived when the police showed up looking for the guy they were looking for. It seemed awful coincidental, something was definitely up. So the police team had to be eliminated, seemed to be a reoccurring theme. Their new acquisition was a chemist and explosive expert. Stanley wasn't half-bad at these things himself but welcomed the help. The more the merrier.
