"Wait," Bo urged, leaning unsteadily on the side of the van after climbing out. "We need to get the story straight here because I don't get it." She paused to draw an unsteady breath. "Don't think there's any doubting that was a trap, and the how is pretty obvious if Angela got the details on the convey off that stick, but what I don't get is why."

"Why this way?" She moved position a little and winced, obviously in pain. "Why lure us out to that meet and do nothing then bait us into a trap? It would've been much easier to kill or capture us at the scene. If they wanted to follow us back to base surely it would've been easier to have the promised supplies in the truck and put a trace on them."

"So I don't get it." The emphatic gesture she made to underline her statement was obviously a mistake from her immediate expression, and she paused for a moment to catch her breath again. "Did they try to be sure we are real by checking what we would do? Make sure we were actually attacked and not allowed to fake it? Were, in fact, the bastards testing us?" Her features hardened.

"Because I'm so gonna whup their ass if so."

((I didn't think we were in a position to craft anything this week as we hadn't yet reported in, but either way Bo is likely to be under care herself.

Just to repeat too, there is no jamming mechanism with the firearms. Yours would probably have stopped firing because it needed you to reload. If you have the extra feat for that all it does is allow you to reload quickly and not take a full round to do it. You STILL need to perform reload action. If it won't reload even out of combat LB will need to swap out your gun.))

Stanley made the rounds and checked the various firearms the team had to make sure they were in good working order, cleaning and doing minor repairs as needed. His own Colt he hadn't actually used for a while, but he inspected and cleaned that as well while they waited.

//repair 12 craft mechanical/chemical are both 9 IRC.

"That's a question for when we get back, Doc." Victor shook his head, still angry from the pain and the failure. "If we get back. If there's something to get back to."

He's silent for a moment, but Bohale's question nags at him, it's clear. "I don't know. If they'd sent two crates instead of one - followed the truck more closely - maybe they didn't know about the guns. Thought one of their mechws would be enough. I don't think they think like us, Doc. Whoever pulls the strings, anyway. I don't know if ADVENT has a commissioner or anything, but whoever they report to's not going to make sense to us."

He takes a breath, realising he's starting to babble. "Was it the guns? Or was it the data gizmo? We're getting pretty desperate back at base, this was our best shot..."

"I don't fucking know!" Jesse said, fuming. "All I know is we got screwed, and we don't know enough to understand why, alright? Angela'll probably figure out more. I... I hope. Gaah!"

She ran a hand through her hair in frustration; turned back to the others with an expression of misery.

"You almost died out there, Bo. And I don't know how much we could've done to stop it. I don't know how much we can even do to stop something like this from happening again."

((Likewise didn't think we'd get a crafting opportunity this week, but if we do, Jesse's still got +9 Craft Mech for ammo scavenging, for lack of any better ideas.))

“I said it before and I’ll say it again. This sounds like it was a trap laid by ADVENT in advance to catch any rebel groups smart enough to tap into their information, make sense of it, and then act upon it. They just weren’t expecting us to have a few partially working machine guns. Pity these things can’t fire at their normal rate, but then again not like we have the bullets for that, right?” Henderson said as he drove, trying to get them back home as soon as possible.

The robot had been a surprise, although he had seen the remains of one a bit ago on that other mission. Talk about Foreshadowing, eh? Still, they perhaps had made the wrong call in fighting it. It was never good odds to be the infantry against an armored vehicle, but it was definitely worth it for them to have tried for one reason. They had proved it could be destroyed, and that they could do it. And that would affect morale in the future.

Session 9

Since everyone is 3rd level now, +450xp for full-party IC posting.

I did note that we'd pick up right where we left off, with your arrival back at base, but if there's an opportunity for down time I'll allow some skill rolls. It may not be necessary; we'll see how the session goes. We'll say that Daud was worse off than he looked and will spend the session recovering under Doctor Rosen's supervision.

The repaired M4s are a modified version of a stock weapon and should reload normally. If there was an issue, then you shouldn't have been able to load the guns in the first place. However, we can do a test in OOC and go from there.

A quiet day at the base.

The guys came back and recovered from their (physical) wounds. One could feel the tension in the air, frustration, fear perhaps and a bit of bitterness.

Nevertheless “life” had to go on for better or worse. The TV was fixed. That was something. JD fell asleep on the sofa while the others went for a walk or something he rejoined them as they were going hunting snakes. They did not make any bullet so that was a concern...

// I need to work early on Sunday and I may need a good 4 hours sleep before that so I may need to bail out early.

They were getting stressed. That was to be expected considering their line of work. Of course the recent trap experience and their faces getting plastered all over the news probably didn't help too much. The Girlie wasn't looking like she was taking it too way, and the Boy was still sleeping off the experience with the Terminator... Which is yet another reference most of them probably wouldn't get, but anyways, he was still resting. And the Doc was getting all paranoid and trying to accuse the Chemist of being a traitor, just because he disappears at times without a word. And then Bruce was just... yeah. Things could definitely look to improve.

But then it wasn't like all of them were down in the dumps. Stan was his usual self and was even on fire when it came to getting stuff done. He fixed the TV, got them a working LAW, heck, bet he could even save them some money on their car insurance at this rate! DJ was in high spirits too, comparatively. Hunted himself a snake, started a poker tourney, which he thankfully was no good at, looking at no chores for a week for the old man! ... Where was I? Ah, right, and overall was trying to stay positive. DJ was doing just fine. Who else was there?

Oh yeah, of course, Max. He was looking down ever since the Doc forbid them from feeding him scraps after dinner. The poor dog just wasn't getting the nourishment he needed from those old dog food rations no one else wanted to eat. It also begged the question of who in the world thought it would be a good idea to invent dog food rations? I mean ignoring the fact that they actually came in handy, who could have predicted a future with people taking their dogs into nuclear bunkers? Again, ignoring how at the time everyone and their dog owned a dog... Wait, it almost felt like this was a normal chain of thought at first.

Right, morale and whatnot. Things weren't the best, but they could still definitely improve. They just needed some more team building activities that weren't centered around dangerous, life threatening missions. Heck, maybe we could organize another poker tournament and make the Doc's dream of seeing DJ in a Maid Outfit come true after all.
