Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
//Sorry, but after driving 12-hours straight, I didn't have the energy to go look for my equipment so I could set the computer back up. I should be around next week. Would someone give me a run-down of what happened so I can explain Toric's absence? Thanks.
Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
((We went back to town in search of some fish that might serve as an offering to the lizardfolk. On our way there, we came across a wererat and his herd of pet dire rats. We returned to the cavern the following morning bearing gifts, which, surprisingly, sort of worked? The lizardfolk told us that 'man-beasts' drove them out of the swamps where they used to live. We went to investigate, and discovered that 'man-beasts' evidently means 'a whole lot of scary werewolves, werebears and other were-things that are basically immune to all of our weapons'. We made a hasty retreat.
Oh, and Pius almost got killed by a tree.))

Toric followed behind the others as they made their way back to town. As they came across the wererat, he hefted his hammer and charged, only to be tripped by one of the dire rats. He cursed as he fell, but before he could regain his feet, he felt a stinging pain in his ankle. He quickly dispatched the rat that bit him, but suddenly felt weak. "Go on," he told the others, "I just be laying 'ere a spell."

"It quite suddenly occurs to me," Nihmri said on their way back, in between labored breaths. "That we may find that Toric has grown fur and developed a new-found appreciation for fine cheese in our absence. I feel that this would diminish what little charm he has significantly, and I cannot imagine that it would do wonders for his social life, either."
She looked distant for a moment; thoughtful.
"There are a great deal of questions, here. I wonder - is everyone in town as ignorant as they appear?"

When Faith is tested.
"Let's give them a barrel of fish!".
On the morning of a chilly day the devoted returned to the village to purchase enough fish to make an offering to the lizard men.
Apparently the trick worked and they were told about "magical creatures" who were now in the swam previously occupied by the "fish eaters".
The group ventured into the forest looking for the place where they could confront the "magical creatures". After making a wrong turn they found themselves in a sort of maze guarded by a giant walking tree. The thing grabbed Pius and threw him a few feet away. Luckily, there was no shortage of priests in this merry band and everyone managed to survive.
Later the group confronted a tribe of man-beasts who were very strong, capable of speech but also invulnerable to weapons. Since their weapons were enchanted the devoted did not expect to meet such difficulty in dealing with the creatures.
Once again the devoted had to fall back and rethink their battle plan...
"So... How exactly do we defeat these beasts?"
OOC
True Pius got kicked badly a least twice in the session and in both case he was pushed (we know a bout this game bug) behind the enemy or line of enemies preventing any possible retreat.

"Looks like we need to do more research about were-creatures." Amathain said, as they trudged back from the swamp. "Many tales include the use of silver weapons, which sounds rather expensive and impractical, but maybe there's some truth to it. I think our first call should be with the high priest of Chauntea, these were-things may be the "corruption" he spoke of, and he might know some way to combat them."
As they walked, he prayed silently to Torm; "My lord Torm, your loyal servant needs your guidance, help us find the means to end this threat. The innocent people of this island stand helpless against creatures such as these. We are their best hope of survival, we must succeed! "

"We need some inspiration, that's for certain." Despite the dourness of the words Shanni's generally optimistic demeanour did not seem to have changed. "But at least we had some success!"
"We now know the lizardmen aren't all bad," she continued to chatter as they walked back, "they're just as frightened as the townfolk, and we also know that the understand they will get hurt if they try to attack the village. Those are both useful things to know." She looked thoughtful for a moment. "And thanks to that we now know that there is a large group of dangerous shapeshifters living in relative close proximity to the village too. I suppose that's useful to know."
She paused again and smiled ruefully. "Even if what we are learning above anything else is how to run away at speed. You have to know when to hold them, and know when to fold them, after all."
"And maybe you are right, Nihmri", she said, the grin growing broader once more, "but never look a gift horse in the mouth. With the Lady's blessing that will give him the insight we need into how to deal with the others!"
