Assault on Aldera Campaign
Moderator:Lazybones
A plan to take care of the duergars.
After arguing over a few traps. The old witch told those who would care to listen that getting in would require more strategy than bravery. Incapacitating some of those inside would certainly help. To her surprise the group did not argue and in less time than it take for sands in an hourglass to fall someone got some poison at the market and manage to pour some of that into the food and drink of the duergars.
Yet, apparently to get in the main door was the only way. Rogha regretted that they did not have a way to turn invisible, reduce there size or be silent. And how could they quietly remove four guards without alerting anyone? Her singing would be of no use here.
If the guards had weak minds, perhaps illusion or other mind spells may work.
"I have this thin rope if you want"
"How do we distract these people long enough to sneak in? Can we start a fire?"

Re: Assault on Aldera Campaign
"Usstan has listened, and Usstan agrees with most points. Especially two-pronged attack. Dos, dos, and dos-" Ravillion would start to say, as she then pointed at Zau, Rogha, and Miiq,"Dos will each summon dos minions and animals and send them through tunnel, under command of Kobold. Kobold will lead them and cause large distraction from within. Best odds of forcing outer guards back inside." she said as she gave Miiq a sharp look through her helm's eye-slits... What was it perhaps, expectations?
"Second choice, same start, but Kobold leads them running inside through /front/ gate. Duergar nau expect boldness, will follow inside, and blame will be set against Kobolds. And Kobolds even have stolen Duergar item in their lair, so can nau lay blame on us easily if investigated. After outside guards chase inside, rest can enter with nau fear of town learning was dos."
((Although the sadness is that while this plan works on paper, it sadly doesn't work in NWN without DM / Builder assistance, as summons and familiars don't like being in other areas than their owners sadly.))

Darsin listened, occasionally nodding in agreement with ideas cast out by the others. As for other spells in place of what I normally memorize, I could cast scare or hold persons on guards, but not sure how effective those would be given their innate magic resistance, plus the duration would just be 4-5 minutes at most. I could cast silence spells but those would only last the same. I could also summon a boar, if needed.

Vot looked back and forth as the crew exchanged words and ideas. The drow were right about one thing at least... complicated plans fail. So, he refrained from making a contribution of his own into the idea pool and just let them build whatever plan they wanted. It'd be fine. Probably.
A long time ago, he might have worried about it, but he'd since concluded that worrying so much was really exhausting. Instead, he dreamed of the quiche he would make when all the dumb Duergar were dead. He heard the Kobold say they had a fine kitchen inside too. Oh, but he probably should stay away from the poisoned cookware. He didn't want his crew hurling up the fine food he was going to make inside.
It was wasted on the goblin that was reportedly their cook. Goblins were terrible chefs, and the Duergar had terrible taste for using one. He bet they ate like rats every night. No appreciation for what the food could be. Just stuffing their faces, ignorant to the vast world of flavor they could be experiencing.
Yep, Once they got inside, he'd snap that little goblin's neck and get to work. Oh yeah, but he better pay attention to the plan for now.

Re: Assault on Aldera Campaign
Miiq hissed as he considered Ravillon's plan.
"Mind-servants don't obey from afar. Not when orders too complicated. Needs focus of master to guide them. But... maybe still good idea. Many of them gathered in one place; easier to conquer when they are scattered."
He put his claws together, tapping them against each other, pondering.
"Fast maybe more important than careful. Set trap for guard; sow confusion; strike. Move before alarm is raised. Dwarf-hold seems to have only one entrance - important that warriors hold it, make sure none escape."

Zau'lann nods.
"If we need to get past the guards, then perhaps, it's time for this thing to be useful." He reaches into a pocket, drawing out the sigil of the local Drow house that he'd taken during their temple battles. "Perhaps some of us can get through with some clever speech." The rest... through cunning, stealth, spellcraft."

Tian'ith looked at the others then at the emblem in Zau'lann's hand.
"If your assessment is that the familiar's will need direct control then it may be our best option." She took a deep breath. "Unless any can think of a better diversion it may be our only option, if only to create enough of a diversion to get us inside and do something to cause the guards to follow them inside." She looked over at the rest of the city. "I still believe a distraction for the city guards would be ideal but ... " She frowned a little. "Perhaps if we lay some traps for them on their route on the far side of town that might ... might do it."

TPK!
Rogha was concerned even a bit scared. Would things go wrong, they would get slaughtered by the duergars or by the guards. But for what was about to unfold there was no prophecy for her to follow and decipher. The drows had a great idea in line with the "be smart not brave" motto the old witch came up with while trying to formulate a plan in the kobold tunnels. They talked their way in the duergar tower pretending to bring news, gifts and what not. Inside, the duergar somehow affected by the poison acted as if they had trapped the group. The leader said something like "we know who you are. You are not getting out of here alive." A fight started and everybody died... No, no drow, no kobold, no hobgoblin just the others. The duergars inside the tower were wiped out. That was unexpected but Rogha would not complain about it...
