The Dragon's Village 2017

I will take all of your forum suggestions and adjudicate them in-game (as much as is possible within the NWN engine), so keep the ideas coming.
The citadel does not have a proper smithy but you find some old metalworking tools in a locker that looks like it hasn't been opened in years.
The garrison consists of six conscript soldiers, sergeant Oi Zemin, commander Huang Xiao, and Old Yun. You brought five of Lord Wu's elite soldiers with you to the citadel who will follow your orders.

// pretty sure Tian has enough craft weapon skill to make caltrops. So he could do that.
Perhaps we can ask Old Yun about the surrounding area? he's been here for several decades, perhaps he knows something usful about the lay of the land? We might have to find a magical cure for deafness first though...

Ning tried to keep herself busy. There were a thousand things to do, and a thousand things more to worry about. She took it upon herself to ensure that the fortress' supplies were free of contamination or spoilage, and that all soldiers were in fighting shape. Some were less than eager to entrust their well-being to a young and seemingly inexperienced shugenja, but all left healthier than they came.
During quiet moments, she withdrew to the river. She found it to be quite a different creature from the languid, enigmatic waterways from back home. These spirits were wilder, far less inclined to play around with riddles and games. Still, they could be made to listen, and perhaps even learned from.
Knowing that the river flowed through the great steppes, Ning implored the spirits that resided within it to grant her visions of events downstream Surely, she thought, if this great horde had set up camp anywhere, it would be near a source of potable water. She did not have to be a general to know that no army would march without it.
Making spirits understand the difference between a herd of wild horses and an army of barbarians, however, proved to be somewhat challenging. Fortunately, travelling with Moriko had taught her patience for such things.
Ning wondered if the spirits of the river might be persuaded to help stave off the horde. It seemed an unlikely proposition. After all, why should spirits care for which foolish humans who claimed to own the land they inhabited? So far as they were concerned, one mortal empire was no different from the next. They had seen a hundred come and go.
Still, it would not take much. A push, and the river might bar an army's path and delay it, if only for a day or two.

"Yes!" Moriko exclaimed at Wen's suggestion. "Ning thinks it's good to hear what they can say." She looked over at Master, who had been stoically suffering the bouncing attention of the erstwhile fighting dog, as he rumbled.
"Oh yes, I will explain." She looked at Wen and said. "The littler ones won't notice a lot because human things happen too slowly but they might listen to their tree friends. Though the trees don't move around much and stay away from the plains but they might learn from the deer who go out to graze. The deer go out at night and come back in the day but they might pay attention to the insects if asked." She paused as Master rumbled again as if another thought occurred.
"No insects won't notice if they are moving at all so I will ask them to ask the snakes who live more slowly. There are voles but I don't think snakes listen to voles much because they mostly say 'Help! No! Think of my children!' to snakes. There might be fox..." The seemingly endless chatter tailed off as Master grumbled a little more insistently.
"Umm ... yes, I will just ask the eagles. They will see and come back quickly." She paused and looked at Master, then back at the others again. "Should I ask the mountain to fall on them or the skies to spike them? The mountain might not listen because you humans move too fast, which is a good job as they might start to scratch, and earth is not being a friend much now. But the skies get bored and would play until they get bored of that too."

Session 18
+750xp for full-party posting.
I will send out a few PMs with the results of your private initiatives. More public things (like making devices) we'll cover in-game.

Here's what Gojiro found out on his scouting about....
The mountain pass beyond the citadel slants down along a broad slope for about ten li (roughly 3 miles) until it meets the steppes. The pass is steep in places but mostly flat, without much in the way of cover. The dense fog makes it difficult to see very far, however. The fog remains in place throughout the day and night during your scout.
Other than the river, there isn't anything that would help an invading army in the pass: no trees, no forage, no animals to hunt. An invading army coming up from the steppes would have to bring its supplies with it. On the other hand, the pass is basically a ramp that leads straight up to the citadel walls. The pass is broad enough that with the fog an invading army could walk right past a sentry and he would never know they were there unless they made a lot of noise (the sounds of the river drowns out simple sounds like footsteps or quiet conversation). The pass does narrow significantly as it reaches the top and you don't find any routes around the citadel that are not in the three areas present in the module.
The steppes themselves seem vast and unremarkable. You only go as far as the edge but other than tall grass and open space there isn't much to see. You find a few tracks but can't tell if any of them are recent.
The citadel completely blocks the pass.
There is a huge waterfall (50'+ drop) just beyond the bridge, so it would be impossible to swim up that way.
Any flyer moving swiftly through the fog would be likely to slam into a wall or a mountain.
You didn't see any flyers, but in the fog anything more than 40-50' away would have been invisible.

Moriko sat on the edge of the wall watching and waiting watching out to the north. How she managed to do without sleep is uncertain but she waited there for two full nights, returning to the watchtower in the hours just after dawn on the third day with a mournful expression.
"I am sending no more because they don't come back. Not to me. Not to their home. Not to their families." She gave a deep heartfelt sigh and Master brushed up against her hip with his head in a consoling fashion. "If they go past the edge of the mountains they are gone. Like a big hole swallows them up forever."
You get the impression her concept of forever may be a little different and possibly longer than yours.

"I don't think they're gone, Moriko," Ning said. Her eyes were far away, but she spoke clearly, and with grim certainty. "I have listened to the river. There is... something... out there. Something large and terrible, marching alongside the horde. And yes, I have felt their coming - thousands upon thousands of them - but that is not what frightens me. Something sensed that I was watching. And with no more than a thought, it blinded me before I could see its shape. It... still hurts to think."
She shivered.
"For nearly all my life, I have felt like an instrument of the spirits. Even now, it's not like I really have any control over them. Not really. We just have... an understanding. A bond. But this - whoever or whatever it is - it commands them in ways that I can't begin to understand. It walks, and the river trembles."

"It would not be wise to try to stop that invasion as we are both outnumbered and overpowered. Best would be to try to delay them before abandoning the place. Not only we have someplace to go to but the surviving soldiers should go in various directions to alert nearby cities and villagers. At the very least one of them will have to report to Lord Wu.
Assuming the enemy have no easy access point all we can do now is use range weapons and things like traps, caltrops, oil, magic but honestly I do not think that we will be able to hold the wall more than a day. What say you?"
// About the lag monster
If I have decent fps (60-70) my machine should be able to handle the module. Assuming I am using the proper nwn/hak version the problem may be network related. I should do a ping the next time the server is up. Also, I may need to use a lan cable t connect to my router instead of wifi. Since I have no app running in the background other than win10 I am not sure what else I could try. Any advice?
