Escape from Chult - Sundays RP thread

Post by Gulfwulf » Fri Feb 04, 2011 9:48 pm

This is a continuation of the Sunday Aldera campaign.

It has been three months since Baron Tiberian has resumed ruler-ship over Aldera, but the insectoids still remain a threat, albeit a much smaller one than before. The head of the Earthcutter mining operation were captured before they could flee the island and were placed under arrest. Baron Tiberian has appointed Ridush, Mei, and Erin as ambassadors to his island nation and has asked they travel to the distant land of Halruaa in an attempt to gather information and resources to help defeat the insectoids for good. To vacillate this, he has asked Brigid, an accomplished cleric, accompany them. On the return trip, the ship you're traveling on is shipwrecked on the wild southern coast of the Chultan peninsula.

Mei wakes up when a wave crashes on him, pushing him further up the sand.
Tumbling around in the frothy water, he opens his eyes on unfamiliar land. Moving to a sitting position, he scans the beach for ... well, anything.
Upon sighting a figure on the beach not too far away, he yells out to them.
"Hey, are you alive?"

Hearing no response, Mei looked around some more. He just didn't feel like getting up yet.

Not seeing anything else besides bits of broken ship dotting the beach, he sighed and grudgingly got on his feet.

"Whoever you are, your gonna owe me big time for this."

Upon arrival he flipped the person over.

Brigid had grown up in the temple with unusual parents. Her father was a human rogue who had fallen for her mother, a StarSinger of Sehanine Moonbow. She had spent her childhood hiding here and there and playing harmless tricks on the other children trying to evade the seemingly endless worship within the temple. She supposed she didn’t fit in because her father’s human blood ran strongly in her.

After a particularly phenomenal trick she had played on the other children she found herself shunned by the little community. Her mother and father were away as they often were. She endured the cold looks and disapproving glances from the priests and priestesses for a while and then packed up what she could carry and left a note for her parents. She had read about Erevan Ilesere in a book she had found in the library and set out to learn more. Perhaps she could be a cleric of the Trickster god. She knew she could never follow in her mother’s footsteps as a MoonCalled, but following Erevan Ilesere she thought might give her a place to belong. Trying to belong to a place that had no “place” might not have been the best choice but it was all she had for now. She got along by helping people with the skills she had, not that most wanted the skills of a trickster healer, but occasionally she overheard the right conversation and made a bit of gold for her help. Being outside the confines of the temple and no longer constantly compared to her mother she found she had more than a little talent, but still finding people to pay her for her skill was difficult. Then she met Baron Tiberian and perhaps her luck was changing.

*Mmm, nice,* the half-orc thought as she rolled lazily in a sun-warmed pile of muck and slimy decaying seaweed. That is, until she felt a strong clamp on her left nostril from the pinch of a crab, which she was very near to squashing with her face . . .

"YYEEOUCH!" she yelled and ripped the offending sea monster off so fast, its claw was detached and remained firmly attached to her nose as she flung the rest of it a quarter mile out into the waves.

She looked around, still in a confusing amount of pain. "Dis why Orcs not supposed to go on ships! Orc-kind like water, yes. Puddles, ponds, creeks, streams, even brave swift river when have to, but we not supposed to go over our heads. We sink and sea monsters think we food!" then muttering, "How Ridush not sink if boat break?"

The half-orc's mind, still split between the pain and the shock of not having drowned, failed to notice the rather large, empty barrel she was securely fastened to by a thick well-knotted rope. She stood and stumbled along the beach, dragging the barrel and wondering why her nose hurt so badly, while she searched for her friends.

Erin sat up, groaning and rubbing his neck. He looked around the sand at the rest of the group and the remains of their boat. "Typical. Things are probably going to just get better from here."

Gathering his gear, Erin stood and looking past the beach, up and down the coast. It looked like the start of another adventure to him, but they would need some food and water before long. He walked the beach a ways, looking for anything that had washed up.

Having wandered around the swampy coast for a while with Erin, Mei was starting to feel a bit water-logged.
"Is there anyway you can lead us to dry land, Erin?"

Ridush shakes her head and feels the flapping of the crab claw against her face; she pulls it off quickly.

"YEEOUCH!!!" she yells and for a few moments can see nothing but white. Soon, though, her vision clears and she sees Mei and Erin. As the half-orc begins to run toward her friends, she notices the barrel, thumping along behind her. "Thank you for saving Ridush's life, barrel. You go now." With those words, she snaps the thick rope and tosses her erstwhile life-preserver aside.

"Mei! Erin! Ridush see you!"
