"All very well and good," Nihmri said, mildly exasperated at the debate. "But if I'm to do all the calculus involved yet again, I must demand a decent cloak. It's so very dreadfully cold here, and I don't even want to imagine what the mountains will be like..."

The devoted were now travelling in the mountains. Pius was impressed by the wall built to protect men from the giants. The sky was clear and the air was fresh but cold. Pius, had his flaming weapon to keep him warm and scare away some of the mountain monsters. He tried to remember how and where he got his weapons. The short sword he never used was a gift of Helm found near the temple of all faith. That weapon would need to be reforged to be used in combat. The silver sword had been forged by a giant in the mountain to help defeat the were beasts. The sharp and curvy sword apparently called ka-ta-na was found in the foreign lands they visited. The flaming scythe was the newest treasure. Another spoil of past battle. Pius tried to picture who had been wielding it. Was it the insane Banite cleric or one of the undead champion?

Slade's eyes swept across the vista looking for any further signs of danger. The ogre raiders and giant had been dispatched fairly quickly by the group. He was a bit more worried about some of the snowy creatures and spirits they'd run into. Those could prove a bit more deadly if larger numbers were encountered and they struck from ambush. He'd tried to lead off to detect such, but the others seemed impatient and rarely waited for him to scout, let alone stop and listen to his reports. Sooner or later, that was going to to cost them.

Toric walked up to Slade and asked him, "What do yer Elven eyes see, lad? Don't think ye'll be able to see 'em ice thingies in the snow. Might be a good idea if ye did some scouting, though; we don' need to run across 'em things again without knowin' they be there." He swept his eyes across the land to see if he could see anything as well.

Nihmri sighed.

"It sounds as though they expect us to win this war all on our lonesome," she said. "All while they hide behind their moderately fancy walls. Gods grant us patience along with all the rest!"

"Now, now, let's not get too bitter," Shanni said lightly, in an encouraging tone. "We wanted adventure and adventure is what we are getting. There's no point in complaining about that, we're just considered as able to get most of what we need as we bimble along."

"Besides," she added, "it was well known on the circuit that you didn't say how much you got from a job because if you made a profit those sending you start to get interested in what or how much you found." Shanni lowered her voice conspiratorially and nudged Suula. "And we know what they said about how dwarves can get about gold. Might also need to add elves to the negotiator's list when we get home."

Suula snorted at her sister's nudge. "Eh. And besides... again... we're not on our lonesome, Nihm." she corrected. "We have help they can't match. They... their lord at least... seems to recognise that." She nodded, head tilted in thought. "Sharper than he should be, maybe. We'll see... yes, we'll see..."

"Wits about you now my friends, this is hostile territory and we'll like as not find scouts or raiding parties before we make it to the quarry. It would be embarrassing in the extreme to have a giant sneak up on us."
