Re: Devotion Campaign Planning and Discussion Thread
From the Temple of all Faith the group teleported to... Not the desert as expected but a forest. They found traps, tricks and kobolds as well as werecats. It was not really difficult to dispatch these. Later on they found dire tigers protecting the evil leader who did not like being turned into a porcupine by arrows coming from all directions.
North of the forest was a plain similar to the mere of dead men. A place where long ago, a great battle was fought and dead did not find eternal peace (or torment). A group of elves were holding a camp and invited the devoted to rest. They did not turn into werewolves or Rakshasa or anything unpleasant.
Next they would have to hunt the evil power controlling the undead before proceeding to the desert proper. Althor remembered his training and proposed that the archers should handle the zombies while those with blunt weapons could crush the bones.
He slept for a short while but did not dream.
// page 99. Should hit lvl 21 at start of next session.

When the mists cleared from the teleport, Slade knew immediately something had gone wrong; they were in a forest rather than the planned desert. The question was where exactly had they landed and how far was it to their original destination? A short walk brought them to a road and sign; they were over 100 miles from the desert. Obviously, fate had other plans for them. Along their way north, they slaughtered some goblins, werecats, dire tigers and a druid, which all made the mistake of getting in the way. After battling demon princes, greater liches and assorted other outsiders in their planer travels, these skirmishes seemed rather petty at best.

It had been a long time since Toric had dealt with an enemy as mundane as a few kobolds who thought they could waylay unsuspecting travelers. It came as no surprise to him the party was able to quickly and easily wipe them out. What did come as a surprise was the reception the part received after they left the cave: apparently not all of the kobolds in the area wanted to fight; there was one who was corrupted by an unknown power who convinced the others to. It was all very strange.
And now he was sitting in a glade supping with elves. If someone had told him even six months ago he would be doing this, he would have laughed in their faces. But now things like this were starting to become common place, especially the part about the nearby dead being restless. If there's one thing he hated, it was the dead that didn't have the sense enough to stay that way. He looked at the others and said, "Let's do this."

"I suppose it wouldn't be a proper journey without us getting sidetracked on the regular," Nihmri said, half-lounging by the fire. She snapped shut the tome in her hands - an old, leather-bound thing she'd 'borrowed' from the library at the Temple of All Faiths - and lazily rose to her feet. "Might as well, I suppose. Who knows? Might actually be something interesting buried down there."

Suula had dithered for a moment, hovering around the back of the group, seemingly uncertain whether to conceal her allegiance in the name of diplomacy. But after a few moments more, seeing the other adventurers readily accept the invitation... something in her mind seems to say 'to hell with it' and she marches in alongside them to the fire, skull-shield and antler-pendant displayed defiantly, revelling in any queasy or unhappy looks she might get.
When the conversation turns to the undead, she discards the bowl of grains she'd been given, and leans in. "Doesn't seem all that coincidental to me," she says airily. "Whatever it is the Wise think they know, the Powers we serve will almost always know more. They just do small things about it, like a prophecy. Or screwing up a teleport. But it could be this is all brewing up... again."
"Though it could just be bad luck. I mean, obviously."

"Bad luck for them," Shanni added, with a positive tone to her voice. "My Lady decides that fate is to favour the people who need our help and yours decides that whoever is standing against them deserves to be shown they don't mess with fate."
"I swear that's what it's all about now, completely sure of it." The young cleric sipped a drink and then continued. "I mean, think about it. How many of these beings we have faced have decided to over step the mark and behave as if they were a god?" She looked from one face to the other, giving her sister a firm nod too. "All of them. All of them have decided they can deny the order of things and put themselves into the position of interfering with the fate of others. And when they do that they step onto our territory."
"So it doesn't really matter if it's good fortune or ill, it's who the fortune is affecting that matters. Just one thing is for certain." She grinned merrily. "When you piss off the Ladies so they act together you're in for it."
